U.S GOVERNMENT TO IMPOSE VISA RESTRICTION ON INDIVIDUALS UNDERMINING DEMOCRACY IN LIBERIA

The United States Government has announced plans to pursue visa restriction to specific individuals believed to be complicit in undermining democracy in Liberia, including through manipulation or rigging of the electoral process.

A press release issued by the U.S Department of States on Wednesday (September 27, 2023) stated that the visa restriction policy will cover individuals associated with violence to prevent people from exercising their rights to freedom of association and peaceful assembly or engagement in any other activity designed to improperly influence the outcome of an election.

The release further notes that certain family members of such persons may also be subject to these restrictions.

The visa restriction followed days after opposition Unity Party Standard Bearer Amb. Joseph Boakai joined other party associates to issue statements of treats against the peace and security of the country.

Pundits believed that the move by the U.S government to impose visa restrictions on individuals acting outside the tenants of democracy is targeting those opposition leaders who are bent on threatening the peace in these elections, whilst commending the American government for such a move.

The visa restriction is not directed at the Liberian people or the Government of Liberia, but reflects the U.S. commitment to support Liberians’ aspirations to have free and fair elections that demonstrate the will of the people and strengthen democracy and the rule of law _ the release added.

The policy will take effect in advance of the upcoming election under Section 212(a)(3)C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act for those undermining democracy in Liberia.

CLLR. PEARL BROWN-BULL WANTS JOE BOAKAI DISQUALIFIED FOR "BEATING WAR DRUM".

Outstanding Lawyer and signatory to the Liberian Constitution of 1986, Cllr. Pearl Brown-Bull is calling for the disqualification of Amb. Joseph N. Boakai from contesting the presidential and legislative elections over "statements of threats" made against the security of the country.

Cllr. Pearl Brown-Bull told a gathering that the Unity Party is constantly engaging in threatening statements at a time when Liberians are resolved to a peaceful process.

The Liberian Lawyer expressed worries that a statesman like Amb. Boakai will compromise his love for the country to satisfy some evildoers.

The condemnation among a series of public concerns over an alleged threat made by the Standard Bearer of the Unity Party that Liberia will return to the dark days, whilst questioning the independence of the National Elections Commission.

She stressed that the failure of Amb. Boakai's acknowledgment of gains made in sustaining peace in Liberia clearly demonstrates his inability to reconcile the country after the elections.

Cllr. Brown-Bull is strongly convinced that disqualifying Amb. Boakai is important to protect the country from its violent actions and therefore calls on the NEC to do the needful.

Chinese Language Reached New Level in Liberia.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Liberia today announced that it is now offering a Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) in Chinese Language and Culture in Monrovia.
Aimed at Promoting Cultural Exchange and Friendship between Liberia and China.

Representing the People's Republic of China Mr. Fan Er-Wel, the Chargè d' Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Monrovia emphasized that the establishment of the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chinese Language and Culture at the State-Run University marks a new phase in the development of Chinese Language Education in Liberia.

According to Mr. Er-Wel, the launch of the program is not only based on the China/Liberia-Friendly Cooperation but also a witness of the close and sincere partnership between the two countries.

He stressed that as China enters the stage of high-quality development the demand for people from different countries to learn and understand the Chinese language is increasing daily.

Meanwhile, the Chargè d' Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Liberia pledged China's willingness the promote of language and cultural exchanges between the West African Country and the People's Republic of China.

"Through the interaction of ideas cultures, and emotions we will jointly write a new chapter of exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and Ancient Civilizations in the new era and make new contributions to promoting the mutual understanding of the two countries" he added

Speaking on behalf of the president of the University of Liberia, Mrs. Benetta Joko Tarr expressed the University of Liberia's commitment to ensuring the Chinese Language and Culture program is successful.

Additionally, Madam Tarr underscored the need for improvements at the Confucius Institute to give students from other countries the to come and study in Liberia.

She however reaffirmed the University Administration's fullest support to the full performance and success of the Confucius Institute at the University of Liberia.

The Chinese Language is one of the six United Nations and the most likely used language in the world.

Over ten thousand Liberian Students have entered the Chinese language classroom becoming Promotors, Facilitators, and Contributors to the friendship between Liberia and China.

Joseph Boakai: ‘If They Steal This Election, It Would Be The End Of This Country

Monrovia – FrontPageAfrica has obtained a video of former Vice President Joseph Boakai, the standard bearer of the Unity Party, during one of his campaign rallies, where he warned that it would be “the end of Liberia” should the ruling CDC rig the October 10 elections.

In the video, Ambassador Boakai is heard saying, “…that’s why you need to protect it. If they think they’ll steal this election, you will not allow it because if they do it, that’s the end of this country.”

Over the past few weeks, supporters of the former ruling party have hinted at the possibility of election rigging by the government while simultaneously threatening unconventional reactions if such allegations proved true.
