Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency Women Association (DEAWA) concludes three days awareness on drug abuse in Monrovia.

LDEA Monrovia, April 26, 2024

The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency Women Association (DEAWA) concludes three days of intensive drug abuse awareness and sensitization campaign in Monrovia. The exercise begun on Wednesday April 24 2024 and is expected to climax on Friday, 26 April.

According to the LDEA Women, the exercise is part of effort to buttress the LDEA's commitment to ensuring the government's hundred days deliverables under which, the institution places priority on Prevention, Trauma and Psychosocial Counseling, Evidence Based Data Collection on Persons with substance used disorder (SUD), Strategic Partnership and Enforcement of the nation's drug law.

As part of the exercise, the LDEA women were seen touring parts of Sinkor and Old Road communities in an effort to reach out to Market Centers, Schools, Faith Based institutions and public gatherings. The group visited the Mildred Taylor Elementary, Junior & Senior High School on 12th Street Sinkor, The Fiamah Market, The Salvation Army - Len Millar High School on 24th Street and the Old Road Market as part of their campaign tour.

In their message to the marketeers and students of the Mildred Taylor and Len Millar High Schools, the group cautioned parents and students about the danger of drug abuse in our society and the consequences it has on our future, and the potentials of our younger generation. The group encouraged parents not to abandon their children to peer circle as it is perceived to be one of the leading factors responsible for addiction and abuse among the younger generation.

In separate comments from both the marketeers, administration and students of these institutions, the LDEA Women were praised for the move and were further encouraged to extend the initiative in communities, schools and religious institutions across the country. "If you guys had started this long ago, lot of our children who are on drugs today, wouldn't have gotten involved", said the marketeers!

In response to the students and marketeers, the group vows to continue the initiative which they termed as national and patriotic duty despite the challenges and limited resources available. According to the President of (DEAWA) Special Agent Sonnie Deddeh-Forkpah, they will keep engaging with the LDEA administration to help solicit the needed support that will enable the group extend the exercise across Montsurrado and its environs.

"It is a difficult task, especially without transportation, water, printed materials and voice enhancement, like mega phones and PA system to extend our voices during the exercise," madam Forkpah noted. Meanwhile, the group is calling on philanthropists and foreign partners to rally support towards the initiative to enable them extend the move in other parts of the country. They are appealing for support in food supply, sanitary materials clothing, medication and other basic needs.

As part of the exercise, they will be visiting ghettos and prisons facilities to conscientise drug users and inmates about the danger of drug abuse. They will also used the moment to provide some sanitary and personal materials to inmates and disadvantage youths following the engagement.

The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency Women Association (DEAWA) is a structure of all female Law Enforcement Officers within the LDEA, established to promote and foster women solidarity, coordination, capacity building, mentorship and access to equal opportunity.

DEAWA has been existing for more than a decade with a strong membership record with the Liberia Females Law Enforcement Association (LIFLEA), an umbrella Law Enforcement organization that promotes women participation in national security.

LDEA Lofa Detachment Arrest 45 Years Old Man Huge Quantity Of Drugs.

The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) have arrested 45 years old man identified as Albert B. Johnson with huge quantity of drugs.

Johnson is a Liberian National and hill from Foya District, Lofa County.

According to LDEA Lofa County Commander, Lomax Kpehe, the arrest of the 53 kilograms of Ma*****na was made alone the Foya high way.

He said the street value of the drugs arrested with suspect Albert B. Johnson is around fifty three ($53,000) thousands Liberian dollars.

Lomax Kpehe has however told this media outlet that Johnson has been changed pending court trial.

A 44-year old woman identified as Mervina Yarma Paye has fallen victim to the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) operation in Bassa, as the agency seized a mixture of ma*****na.

The seizure which occurred on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 took place in Wayzohn, Wee Statutory District.

The Grand Bassa Detachment of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency confiscated a significant amount of ma*****na mixture in possession of Yarma Paye who is a well known businesswoman in the area.

The operation was conducted as part of the agency's effort to crack down on drug-related activities in the county.

The LDEA officers seized the illicit substance and arrested the suspect for further questioning and investigation.

Yarma Paye who is also a mother of four children, upon her arrest, revealed to reporters of her involvement in drug trafficking.

She further disclosed that, she became engaged in the illicit business after being influenced by her friends, who told her that it is profitable.

She at the same time admitted to frequently selling the drugs by combining them with gari, milk, and occasionally mixing them with alcohol.

Meanwhile, the LDEA Boss in Bassa Buslter Jolon highlighted that, they received a tip-off in compound three, something that led to their swift intervention in making the seizure.

He emphasized that, the seizure is part of the agency's continued efforts in combating drug trafficking and abuse in the county.

Commander Jolon also expressed gratitude to the communities for working closely with the agency in the fight against illicit drugs.

LDEA Nab 27 Years Old Man With KUSH In Foay

Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency ( LDEA) Lofa County detachment intensifies her fight against drugs users and traffickers, as they arrest a 27 years old man with Kruch in FOYA district.

In less than two (2) months , the LOFA county detachment of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency arrested, charged and sent to court more than three (3) persons in possession of Kruch.

Lofa County LDEA commander Special Agent Kpehe Lomax disclosed that his Administration will not rest , but rather continues her fight to make Lofa a " NO GO ZONE" for drugs users and traffickers.

In an effort to make his statement (NO GO ZONE FOR FOR DRUGS SELLERS AND USERS), a reality.
According to him he and his able men are moving from one district to another to arrest people who are involved in the sale of the harmful substances ( Drugs).

On Thursday March 21, 2024, the Agency made another arrest in Kowduporbor (LIS) Checkpoint in FOYA district.

LDEA LOFA commander Special Agent Kpehe Lomax disclosed that the suspect Gibson FAYIA age 27 was arrested with (45) wraps of Kuch with the street value of (4500.00LRD).

Suspect Gibson FAYIA admitted to the crime and was charged and sent to the 10th judicial circuit court. He is currently at the Voinjama central prison awaiting court trial.

Meanwhile, the ( LDEA) boss in Lofa is calling on National Government to provide more logistics to help them boost their work.

" As I speak to you my brother, we are not resting, we moving from one border to another just to arrest this man them, we are using our old motor bike to move to hard to reach places like Vahun, FOYA and Zorzor area , the only thing we need is logistics support from our bosses " commander Kpehe Lomax said in an interview.

Special Agent Kpehe Lomax also called on community members to help expose Drugs traffers and drugs users in their various communities.

" I really the community members to help us in this fight to expose Drugs traffers and users, we begging them please to safe our future generation" he added.

LDEA Launches Anti-Drugs Engagement In Schools

With the clock ticking closer to the the President’s 100 days deliverable milestone, the LDEA under Col. Abe Kromah launches her anti-drugs sensitization program at various schools in Monrovia.

The began on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at the Muslim Congress and the B W Harris High Schools respectively in Central Monrovia.

During the kick-off ceremony Col. Kromah informed students about the importance of the awareness program among young people is because they are greatly being impacted negatively.

He told the students to be vigilant and resilience in saying no to drugs.

“I am an Alhaji and Muslim with a dogmatic mindset against drugs use and proliferation”, says Col. Kromah as hundreds of students enthusiastically embrace and asked questions during the (Q and A) period.

At the B W Harris Episcopal School on Broad street, Col. Kromah and team were welcomed by the principal who expressed happiness for the presence of the LDEA boss and his team.

Addressing the jammed packed auditorium, Col. Kromah lamented the astronomical explosion of drugs use by the young people many of whom have developed mental and psychological problems.

He advised them about the side effects of drugs and the new drugs law which is not billiable. In short, he went thus, “ If you are caught selling drugs, you could go to jail for a long time”.

Meanwhile, Col. Kromah in response to popular demand by students for a mandatory drugs test in schools, promised to institute such measures in the future wherein, certificate of negative drugs test could be a prerequisite to admission to schools, colleges and universities in Liberia.

LDEA Officers In Kakata Nab Two Allege Kush Drugs Dealers

The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Officers assigned in Kakata, Margibi County have arrested two men involved in the sale of Kush in the area.

Moses Sackie, 33 and David George 27 where arrested with 16 pieces dispenser plastics of Kush drugs with street value of US$320.00 equivalent to LD$62,400.00LD.

The arrest was made by Commander Gilbert Roberts on Friday March 15, 2024 along the B**g mines parking.

Following interrogations with the LDEA Moses and David told our Margibi County Reporter that it is first of its kind for them to venture into the purchasing and dealing of the horrible Kush drugs.

The Duo narrated that they obtained the US$320.00 from the sale of 68 coal bags which had been their normal business.

According to them they saw the need to purchased and sell the 16 pieces dispenser plastics of Kush drugs due to its economic values counting that it was their very first time to engage into the sale of narcotic substances.

They want members of the LDEA set them free; with a vowed that they will no longer be engaged into said acts.

Meanwhile, the LDEA Margibi detachment have informed the media that Moses and David will be forwarded to the court of competent jurisdiction on Monday March 18, 2024 for judgments.

LOFA LDEA DETACHMENT ARREST 27 YEARS SUSPECT WITH TRAMADOL

In recent time, the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Lofa County detachment arrested two females, a mother and her daughter with about two hundred wraps of Kuch in Vahun district, in the same month of March, the ( LDEA) also arrested and sent to court a man with huge quantity of ma*****na and other narcotics substances in Lofa County.

The (LDEA ) Lofa County detachment continues her fight to make Lofa County and Liberia a Drugs free country.

On Saturday March 16,2024 , the Agency again arrested and sent to court a 27 years old man with six(6) pieces of tramadol drugs in KPENENIN COMMUNITY, FOYA DISTRICT.

Suspect Patrick FAYIA age 27 was arrested with the substance (Drugs) by LDEA officers in FOYA DISTRICT , and was charged and sent to the FOYA MAGISTERIAL COURT.
The street value of the drugs is about $2000 Liberian Dollars .

Meanwhile, Lofa County (LDEA) commander Special Agent Kpehe Lomax is calling on the new Government to empower the (LDEA) with more logistics for the effectiveness of their job to combat drugs dealers and users.

( LDEA) LOFA COUNTY commander Special Agent Kpehe Lomax said, Lofa County is bordering with Sierra Leone , and Guinea,at such drugs sellers take advantage of the illegal entry points at the various points.

Special Agent Kpehe Lomax is calling for more logistics, mainly motorbikes,or vehicles to help fight drugs sellers and users in Lofa County.

LDEA Holds Partnership Meeting With The West Africa Drug Policy Network (WADPN) Representative.

Authorities of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) held talks with the Executive Director of the West Africa Drug Policy Network(WADPN).

WADPN, a non governmental organization, is a conglomeration of Civil Society organizations established in 2015 to foster evidence-based drug policy that is grounded on public health and human rights.

Mr. Prince Bull-Luceni met with the LDEA on Thursday March 14 at the Sinkor Palace Hotel. According to Mr. Lucine, the meeting was in keeping with wadpn initial partnership with the LDEA during the revision of our nations' former drug law.

In early 2020, the LDEA begun the process of reviewing the amended 2014 drug law in which, owing to its limitations of ensuring robust prosecution, could not sufficiently support the LDEA quest to lift up the fight against drug trafficking in Liberia.

Against that backdrop, the West Africa Drug Policy Network (wadpn), collaborated with the LDEA and facilitated a multi stakeholders engagement that was aimed at soliciting a competitive research and contextualize review to develop a model drug law for Liberia.

According to a statement issued and signed by Mr. Michael W. Jipply LDEA Head of Communications and Public Affairs, the exercise brought together sector ministries, commissions and civil society organizations that chatted the way forward.

During the discussion, the wadpn Executive Director termed the meeting as a reflection of our collaboration and the success of achieving a milestone in redefining our approach towards the fight against drug abuse in Liberia, something he said is a model for other African countries to follow.

He also used the occasion to recommit wadpn partnership to the LDEA.

The discussion culminated into building personnel capacity through trainings, public awareness of the 2023 drug law, prevention through community outreach as well as promoting harms reduction among persons with substance used disorder (SUD).

Representing the Director General, the LDEA Deputy Director General for Administration Hon. Gbawou Kowou used the occasion to thanked the wadpn Boss for their support and pledge the LDEA continue collaboration and partnership.

He also stressed out the importance of collaboration which he said, is necessary to do so if the region must succeed in the fight against transnational organized crimes.

He said, according to Director Abraham Kromah, the LDEA Director General, collaborating with partners is a key commitment to ensuring their deliverables and pledge as they lead the fight against drug trafficking and abuse. And so therefore, the LDEA welcome the partnership and vows to engage for the betterment of the institution.

The passage of the 2023 drug law which is a major achievement for of LDEA, could not have reached this far without the collaborations and support of the legislature, the office of Grand Bassa County District #5 Representative, Hon. Thomas A. Goshua, WADPN, ECOWAS, CSOs, and other local and international partners that continue to collaborate with the LDEA.

As we forge ahead with the mandate to tackle drug trafficking in Liberia, the LDEA welcomes collaboration and partnership from all well meaning institutions, local and international to promote the LDEA and help make Liberia a drug free nation.

The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency( LDEA )Lofa County detachment arrest a 50 years old woman and her daughter with (200) wraps of Kuch Drugs in Vahun district.

According to LDEA commander in Lofa , special Agent Kpehe Lomax, the suspect Sunah Folemah age 50, her daughter Senie FAYIA both of the kissi tribe were arrested in Folemah Town , Vahun district with the substance on March 7, 2024 .

The street value of the Kuch Drugs is 55,000 LD . In an interview with reporter, the suspect and her daughter admitted to the crime and pleaded for mercy.
The both were charged and sent to the 10th Judicial circuit court in Voinjama City.

British Ambassador Neil Bradley pays a courtesy visit to the Headquarters of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA).

The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency has received in audience the British Ambassador to Monrovia, Ambassador Neil Bradley at the Headquarters of the LDEA.

The Ambassador paid the courtesy visit on Wednesday , March 6, as part of his mission to extend partnership.

The visit which is the first of its kind from the British government, was greeted and welcome by the full authority of the LDEA.

LDEA Director General , Hon. Abraham S. Kromah, the Deputy Director for Administration, Hon. Gbawou Kowou, the Operation Director, Hon. Alhasan Fadiga and a host of other departments and sectional Heads were amongst authority that welcome the British Ambassador.

According to Ambassador Bradley, the visit is in keeping with his government's plan to expand bilateral relationship to key sectors of government as a way of strengthening support and friendship to the government and people of Liberia.

He mentioned the importance for ensuring collaboration and cooperation with the government, particularly, in the area of security and the rule of law as one of the reasons for his visit.

According to statement issued by Michael Jipply, Head of Communications and Public Affairs at the LDEA, Ambassador Bradley expressed concern over the wave of drug trafficking and abuse in Liberia, the challenges faced by the LDEA and the need to consolidate efforts in strengthening security, the rule of law and the cherished democratic credentials of Liberia. He particularly extended compliments over the governance of the state and the peaceful transfer of power from one democratically elected government to the other. According to him, promoting security and maintaining the rule of law is key to upholding peace and good governance.

The Ambassador used the occasion to recount the British government's support to Liberia, which he said, is part of efforts to strengthen the long standing relationship between the two countries. He mentioned their support to Liberia security sector reform, the provision of additional and specialized trainings for the Armed Forces of Liberia and the Liberia National Police and other hands-on support as some of the interventions of his government to Liberia.

He said, he's aware of the many challenges faced by security institutions in the country and as they continue to make interventions, he thought of the need to consider the LDEA given the task of ensuring the fight against drug trafficking and abuse and the expressed will of the new administration to tackle transnational organized crimes.

For his part, Director Kromah used the occasion to thanked the Ambassador for the visit and also seized the moment to outline the efforts of the LDEA as well as challenges confronting the institution. He named the amended 2023 Revised Drug Law, several arrest across the country and the complementing efforts of the LDEA within the Joint Security structures as some efforts of the LDEA. On the part of challenges, Director Kromah stressed the lack of logistical support, specialized trainings, conducive work environment, additional manpower and needed budgetary support as key factors hindering the gains of the institution.

Additionally, Director Kromah used the moment to stress out the need to initiate public awareness on the amended drug law, citing reasons to acquaint the public and Judges about the existence of the law. He emphasized the need to educate the public about the context, the implications as well as its adherence to ensuring speedy prosecution. He said, in most part of the country, people are unaware of the passage and subsequent printing of the law and as such, Judges are still acting on the former law using the 13.5 provision to release suspect on bail.

Meanwhile, In response to Director Kromah's plead, Ambassador Bradley committed his government's partnership to the LDEA and promised to work with the institution in the areas of capacity building, community policing and the provision of available support towards the effective law enforcement of the nations' drug law.

In conclusion, Director Kromah thanked the British Ambassador for his visit and similarly committed to keeping the partnership for the development of the LDEA.

LDEA Officer Under Probe For Shooting Man Who Tried To Seized His Firearm

The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency has transferred one of its agents, identifies as Folley Mulbah, who serves as Operations Commander of the New Kru Town Detail, to the Liberia National Police for investigation after a confrontation in the Banjor Beach Community.

According to LDEA Director General Abraham Kromah, during a Press Conference held on Monday, March 4, 2024, Agent Mulbah wounded an associate of a well-known drug dealer in the area during a scuffle when the victim tried to seize Mulbah's firearm.

The injured individual is currently receiving medical care at John F. Kennedy Hospital in Sinkor.

Commissioner however Kromah warned against citizens engaging in altercations with law enforcement officers while they are performing their duties.

According to him, the identified drug dealer by the LDEA is one Charles Massaquoi.

Furthermore, Kromah highlighted that since assuming the role of LDEA Director, they have seized drugs valued at 32 million Liberian Dollars from Montserrado and neighboring counties.

Commissioner Kromah at the same time emphasized the need for increased financial support to the LDEA if President Boakai's goal of reducing drug abuse is to be achieved.

BASSA DETACHMENT OF THE LIBERIA DRUG ENFORCEMENT AGENCY ARREST 11TH GRADE STUDENT FOR SMOKING KUSH IN A GHETTO IN BUCHANAN

The Bassa Detachment of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has apprehended an 11th-grade student from Bassa Seventh Day Adventist High School in Buchanan for smoking "Kush,.

KUSH is an illegal substance which causing serious danger to the lives of you Liberians across the country.

The arrest was made following a tip-off received by Commander Bulster Jolon from a senior elder of the community, who expressed concern about the habitual drug use among youths in the area.

Commander Jolon stated that this was the second time the student, identified as James Harris, had been arrested.

He had previously been apprehended several months ago, but after releasing him to observe his behavior, it became evident that he continued to engage in drug use.

Expressing gratitude for the support received from the county residents since assuming his position, the DEA boss thanked them for their cooperation and working relationship.

Following the arrest, the agency handed Can Wilson over to the school administration.

In response, the Principal of Bassa Seventh Day Adventist High School, Rev. Levi Flahnma, expressed appreciation for the bold steps taken by the DEA in combating drug-related issues in the county.

He urged Commander Jolon to continue his dedicated efforts in tackling the problem.

Furthermore, Rev. Flahnma stressed that the action taken aligns with the school's student handbook policies. Consequently, the student, Can Wilson , has been expelled from the institution due to his disgraceful conduct.

Speaking with tears streaming down his face, Student Wilson attributed his drug use to peer pressure and made a heartfelt plea for forgiveness.

LDEA Hunts For Drugs Dealers Intensify As Some Foreign Traffickers Escape Liberia

Amped with “carte blanche” mandate to curb drugs abuse, proliferation and prevention in line with the articulated vision of President Boakai, Col. Abee Kromah’s drive of nabbing suspected drugs dealers and traffickers is yielding the necessary dividends in the aftermath of major bursts of recent, leading to the unceremonious grounding of culprits as they escape Liberia to the sub- region fearful of possible arrest and prosecution.

The wave of deterrence is saturating the drugs empire amidst shock waves that indeed, the new boss of the LDEA, Col. Abee Kromah is an uncompromising leader whose vision is in line with the President’s dream of making Liberia a drugs free heaven for the young people of today and generation unborn.

According to credible and authenticated information the ongoing campaign has reignited the debate with community leaders getting involved in pinpointing and helping the LDEA in arresting suspects and dismantling the net works and infrastructures of the drugs barons many of whom are foreigners, especially, Nigerians. The awareness and sensitization initiatives are creating panics with many of the dealers and traffickers relocating from place to place making them susceptible to arrest and prosecution.

Resultantly, we can confidently say that some key dealers and traffickers have escaped the country while others are going underground as the wave of arrest and prosecutions continues unabated despite logistical challenges.

Once again, LDEA appreciates the promise of unflinching commitment of President Boakai and Speaker Koffa respectively, in robustly supporting the agency with the necessary logistical needs in optimizing her operations. LDEA under Col. Kromah would like to also thank the United Nation Office On Drugs Control ( UNODC) for the support given the agency over the years and the optimistic view points in replicating similar assistances under the new leadership.

Drugs Clearance to Become Prerequisite for Employment In Liberia

— Lower House instructs Executive to make it mandatory

The fight against drugs is gradually gaining momentum as major stakeholders, including the Legislative and Executive branches of the government, are making significant strides in minimizing or eliminating the menace from the country.

The House of Representatives has embarked on an audacious move that would ensure that everyone is subjected to a drug test before gaining employment, admission, and enrollment at public and private entities.

It is against this backdrop that members of the Lower House have unanimously voted for the Executive branch of government, through its Steering Committee on the combat against illicit substances, to require a Drugs Clearance Certificate for employment, admissions, and enrollment in both public and private sectors.

House Chief Clerk Mildred Siryon, was instructed by the leadership of the Lower House to convey the directive from the House’s Plenary to the committee, and by extension, the office of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
The Plenary’s resolution followed a communication from Representative Thomas Goshua, Chairman of the House’s War on Drugs Committee, urging action to combat substance abuse. Additionally, members of the House voted for mandatory drug testing.

On Tuesday, 27 February 2024, during the 14th-day sitting a communication from Grand Bassa County District #5 Representative Thomas Goshua, the Chairman of the House’s War on Drugs Committee known as “Committee on Drug, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration.”

Members of the House of Representatives also voted to do a drug test.

The House’s Committee on Drug, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration is a supplement to the Executive Steering Committee aimed at combating the scourge of substance abuse and drug addiction in the country.

President Boakai declared the proliferation of drugs and substance abuse as a National Health Emergency and further committed his government’s commitment to swiftly and decisively nip the problem in the bud.

Delivering his Annual Message on Monday, 29 February 2024, President Boakai declared the drug epidemic a National Health Emergency and emphasized his government's commitment to addressing substance abuse issues promptly. The Presidential steering committee, chaired by the Ministry of Health, includes relevant ministries and agencies to combat drug addiction and its impacts on Liberians, especially young people.

The committee has been working actively to address substance abuse challenges through a combination of curative and preventive measures.

In a recent development, the Multi-Sector Committee on Drugs and Substance Abuse announced plans to construct a national rehabilitation center for substance abuse victims and secured 1500 acres of land in Bensonville, Montserrado County, for this purpose.

Additionally, a Youth Agriculture Training Center (YATC) will be established in Bensonville to provide agricultural training for individuals undergoing rehabilitation at the center. Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto, the Chairperson of the multi-sector committee who is overseeing the efforts, stressed the importance of implementing evidence-based practices in the establishment of the rehabilitation center to effectively combat substance abuse and support individuals in their recovery journey.

Dr. Kpoto, who is also the Minister of Health, said her team is carefully considering factors such as accessibility, suitability of the location, potential impact on the community, and resources needed for the smooth running of the facility.
