Liberia Central Bank Governor Urges Acceptance of Old Bank Notes Amid Market Confusion

Liberia's Central Bank Governor, J. Aloysius Tarlue, has issued a cautionary statement to Liberians, emphasizing the continued validity of the old banknotes while urging acceptance and exchange for the new currency.
In an interview recently, Governor Tarlue clarified that although the Central Bank of Liberia had set a deadline of March 31 to phase out the old banknotes from circulation, they remain legal tender beyond the deadline.
Concerns have arisen in the Liberian market as some vendors refuse to accept the old banknotes, citing concerns over their validity.
Governor Tarlu appealed to both vendors and citizens alike to recognize the legitimacy of the old currency and to facilitate its exchange either at commercial banks or directly with the Central Bank.
The Governor's plea comes amidst confusion and hesitancy among some Liberians regarding the use and acceptance of the old banknotes, despite their continued legal status.
With the March 31 deadline approaching, Governor Tarlue's statement aims to reassure the public and encourage a smooth transition to the new currency.
