Update!

Hon. Acarous Moses Gray Responds Strongly to Olubanke King Akerele's Keynote Address on August 24, 2024

In a fiery response to keynote speaker Olubanke King Akerele at the August 24 celebration, former Representative of Electoral District #:8, Montserrado County, Honorable Acarous Moses Gray did not hold back. He addressed historical grievances related to Akerele’s ancestry, referencing her grandfather’s involvement in significant events that have shaped Liberia’s history.

General Gray was quoted saying, “Your grandfather sent the Krus into slavery at Fernando Po, presided over the world’s most rigged election, sold our land for 99 years, and killed our chiefs. He was forced to resign as President. Olubanke King Akerele is a curse to this sweet land of liberty.”

The remarks reflect ongoing tensions regarding Liberia's political history and its impact on present-day governance. General Gray's response garnered attention for its bluntness and has sparked discussions on social media about the implications of historical accountability and reconciliation in Liberia.

Samuel D. Tweah, Jr Writes.

From Political Witch-hunt to Political Manhunt:
Unity Party’s Threats to Liberian Peace, Democracy and Governance!
———————————————————————————-
A ramshackle coalition that made its way to power on arguably the thinnest of electoral margins now dares to push an already fragile Liberia toward the precipice of chaos. In eight months, the UP has nearly broken every law and discarded every semblance of governance Liberia once enjoyed under President WEAH.

They have now recklessly been emboldened to veer lawlessly into man-hunting, the illegitimate use of political power to debase violate and demoralize political opponents by illegally and physically breaking into premises, an example of which was on shameless display today at the headquarters of the CDC.

And all this is happening under the loud silence of the international community whose contribution helped knit Liberia’s post conflict social fabric. It’s time to call President Boakai and UP minions to order long before events degenerate beyond control.

Let it be clear that political witch-hunts and manhunts cannot weaken and daunt the Mighty CDC. These diabolical tactics will only harden the resolve and will of the CDC to UNITE and confront the menace from the UP.

In the coming days, I will be returning to the country to legally rubbish a bogus witch-hunt launched against my person for political purposes and to join my colleagues in mounting the fiercest opposition to the collapse and paralysis of governance the country is now witnessing. We can never be intimidated by the weaponization of power, especially by a weak governing coalition struggling for its bearings and using shenanigans and distractions to confuse the public about its incapacities! Our political forbears before us stared down tyranny at the price of their lives. To stare down these bluffers takes almost nothing!

Mr. Standard Bearer and Political Leader Dr. George MANNEH WEAH the moment has come to stop the abuse of your pedigree for peace and your magnanimity. You conceded power to the UP when the outcome of the 2023 election was still in doubt. That patriotic example has been squashed and misconstrued for weakness.

Strength is not the unlawful abuse of power against an obliging opponent esteemed peaceful; and peace is never sustained by excessively caving in the face of a heartless aggressor!

The hour is now to show firm and resilient leadership and to rally the CDC in this existential moment of aggression.

In the foothills of this new political battlefield, we will sustain our hard-won national peace and cement the pillars of governance for the transformation of our country. But these will be done on the grounds of fairness, equity and honesty.

Any Government that brazenly bastardizes the country” s laws in pursuit of its narrow interests is not worthy of respect. In the way Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr summons our capacity to ‘disobey unjust laws,’ we in the CDC and other well-meaning patriotic Liberians must marshal that capacity to resist breaches of our laws and reckless physical and moral aggression against our people!

Former President George Weah is shocked over clashes between CDC and State Security forces..

Former President George Weah has expressed shock and dismay over what he termed as the police’s decision to open fire on innocent civilians near his party’s headquarters and in the surrounding areas.

Speaking to FrontPageAfrica following the police raid on the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) national headquarters on Tubman Boulevard in Congo Town, Weah condemned the actions of the police, describing them as a threat to peace and a question mark over the UP-led administration’s ability to govern effectively.

“The UP administration claims they know how to govern, but they are not exhibiting tolerance. Why open fire on innocent civilians? As early as 2 AM, they started attacking,” former President Weah stated.

“This is not good governance. We are a nation of rule and law. This needs to stop. We demand answers.”

Violent clashes have erupted between riot police and CDC supporters since early this morning. Footages from the scenes show party supporters being forcefully detained by riot police. A particularly disturbing video shows police dragging a supporter from within the party’s headquarters amidst thick clouds of tear gas.

According to reports, at around 4:30 AM on Thursday, officers from the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) raided alleged drug dealers in the Small-Town Community, which hosts the CDC headquarters. Sources indicate that the drug dealers fled into the party headquarters, prompting the officers to follow them inside.

CDC Secretary General Jefferson Koijee took to Facebook as early as 6 AM, stating, “Heavily armed state security forces have invaded our party’s headquarters for the second time this morning, engaging in sporadic shootings that caused panic and chaos among citizens and partisans in and around the party.
