Thousands of Motorcyclists to March on Capital Hill, Demand Jobs from Liberian Government.
Monrovia, Liberia – March 7, 2025: In what is expected to be a massive demonstration, thousands of commercial motorcyclists will march on Capital Hill in Monrovia on Monday, demanding employment from the Government of Liberia.
The protest is being organized by the Supreme Motorcyclists group, whose spokesperson, Mr. Trokon Gray, stated that the government’s restrictions on motorcyclists operating on major streets in Monrovia have left many riders without income.
"Since the government does not want us to run on the main streets of Monrovia, despite us completing all requirements set by them, we believe they should have jobs for us to do. That is why we have told all motorcyclists to prepare their CVs for the jobs that President Joseph Boakai has for us," Gray said.
The planned march follows months of rising tensions between commercial motorcyclists and authorities over the enforcement of road restrictions. The government has previously argued that limiting motorcyclists' access to major roads is necessary due to safety concerns, traffic congestion, and security issues.
However, motorcyclists claim these restrictions have made it difficult for them to earn a living, pushing many into financial hardship. The upcoming demonstration is expected to send a strong message to government officials, demanding either a reversal of the restrictions or immediate employment opportunities.
The protest is expected to draw thousands from across the city, and security forces will likely be on high alert to maintain order. As of now, there has been no official response from the government regarding the motorcyclists' demands.
