Nigeria's football player, Victor Osimhen, experienced one of the largest market value drops among footballers in 2024. Osimhen, who started the year valued at €110 million, saw his valuation decrease by €35 million, ending at €75 million. The decline followed a failed Chelsea transfer, a move to the Turkish Super Lig, and a loan to Galatasaray. Despite this drop, Osimhen remains highly regarded for his goal-scoring abilities. #

"The Supreme Court of Liberia, under the directive of Associate Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, Sr., has summoned the Minister of Education Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah and Deputy Minister for Administration to appear for a conference on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.

The summons arises from allegations of contempt of court for failing to comply with prior orders issued by the Chambers Justice.

It can be recalled that on December 6, 2024, the Supreme Court directed the Ministry of Education to reinstate all affected officers to their original positions (status quo ante) pending the resolution of the case.

However, according to the aggrieved Education Officers, the Ministry has failed to issue formal communication reinstating them to their roles. Instead, the Ministry is reportedly continuing its operations with newly appointed officers, in defiance of the Supreme Court’s directive.

The petitioners, represented by Atty. Steven Toe and supported by the Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR), argue that their removal violates the Education Act of 2011, which specifies strict guidelines for the recruitment and appointment of County Education Officers (CEOs) and District Education Officers (DEOs).

The petitioners cite sections 6.2.4, 6.2.2, and 6.3.2 of the Education Act, which outline:

-CEOs must be recruited based on competitive merit and approved by the County Education Board.

-DEOs must be appointed by the County School Board with the Minister’s approval, adhering to specific qualification standards.

Additionally, the officers claim that their replacements do not meet the qualifications mandated by section 6.3.4 of the Act, further highlighting violations by the Ministry.

The Supreme Court conference, scheduled at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia, will provide an opportunity for the Ministry of Education to address these allegations and explain why it has not complied with the court’s directive.

The writ of summons was issued on Friday, January 3, 2025 during the second hearing, following complaints from the aggrieved Education Officers, through their legal representatives, regarding the Ministry of Education's non-compliance with the court's previous directive"

"Positive Thinkers of Banjor Honors Bureau of State Enterprises DG for Remarkable Progress"

December 20, 2024

Monrovia, Liberia – The Director General of the Bureau of State Enterprises (BSE), Hon. Arthur Siaka Massaquoi Sr., has been honored by the Positive Thinkers of Banjor (POTOBAN), a non-profit organization advocating against bad governance, for his exceptional contributions to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Bureau.

At a special ceremony held earlier today, Musa Pastore Foboi, Chairman of POTOBAN, presented a certificate of recognition to DG Massaquoi. Foboi commended the DG for introducing innovative ideas that have strengthened the operations of the BSE, significantly reducing waste and financial leakages within State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

"DG Massaquoi has demonstrated exemplary leadership and vision, ensuring the Bureau is not only functional but also impactful in addressing governance challenges. His efforts to improve accountability and transparency within SOEs are commendable," Foboi remarked.

In his acceptance speech, DG Massaquoi expressed gratitude to POTOBAN for acknowledging the progress achieved at the BSE. He pledged to redouble his efforts to ensure the Bureau continues to thrive and deliver on its mandate.

"This recognition is not just for me but for the dedicated team at the BSE. It serves as a motivation to do even more for the people of Liberia. We are committed to transforming the BSE into a model of excellence in governance and accountability," DG Massaquoi stated.

The DG also highlighted a significant milestone achieved under his leadership: the submission of an Act to the Governance Commission to transition the Bureau of State Enterprises from a decree to an Act of the Legislature. This, he noted, would provide the BSE with a stronger legal framework to carry out its statutory mandate effectively.

"The submission of this Act is a pivotal step in strengthening the Bureau's authority and ensuring it can meet the demands of modern governance. We are optimistic about the positive impact this will have on the management of State-Owned Enterprises in Liberia," he added.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment from both POTOBAN and the BSE to collaborate in promoting good governance and fostering accountability across Liberia's public sector.
