Gloria Musu Scott denies media reports of being released from prison by the UP government, terms the reports as false and damaging to Liberia's reputation

MONROVIA- Justice Scott informed a group of reporters this past weekend that the media's coverage of her supposed compassionate release from prison is inaccurate and harmful to Liberia's image.

She stressed the significance of media credibility and autonomy, raising concerns about why such reports would be disseminated to the public without proper verification before publication.

The ex-Chief Justice made it clear that no compassionate leave was authorized, dismissing allegations that suggested presidential intervention in the matter.

Gloria Musu Scott, 70 years old, was sentenced to life imprisonment for her involvement in the murder of her niece in June last year.

Judge Roosevelt Willie of Criminal Court A delivered the verdict after a jury found her guilty of orchestrating the violent assault.

Hon. Tanneh G. Brunson: Nationwide Consultation to Shape Liberia's National Development Roadmap

Monrovia, June 16, 2024- Liberiaโ€™s Deputy Minister for Budget and Development Planning, Hon. Tanneh G. Brunson, has emphasized the importance of an inclusive consultative process across all counties in Liberia to achieve a comprehensive National Development Roadmap for the country.

Speaking at a two-day Orientation Workshop for County Authorities on the National and County Development Planning Processes, held by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning at a local hotel in Ganta City, Nimba County, from June 13-14, 2024, Hon. Brunson emphasized that the benefits of this approach include strengthening the country's democratic culture and involving local beneficiaries in the development agenda, among other advantages.

The workshop, fully funded by the Swedish Government and facilitated by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), aimed to foster collaboration and build synergy among county consultation teams to enhance their output.

Minister Brunson clarified roles and responsibilities within county leadership regarding the development of the National Development Plan/ ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID) and County Development Agendas (CDAs), intended for district and county consultations to strengthen local leaders' capacity to effectively perform their duties.

Hon. Brunson stated that incorporating views from all counties, including input from local authorities, youths, women, civil society organizations, and the media, is crucial for the National Development Plan. She emphasized that the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID) would require strong coordination mechanisms at both national and sub-national levels.

โ€œThe ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID) will need robust coordination at both national and sub-national levels,โ€ she asserted.

Hon. Brunson expressed gratitude to the Swedish Government and other development partners for supporting the ongoing planning process for the National Development Plan.

Madam Christine Umutoni, United Nations Resident Coordinator and co-chair on the steering committee of the National Development Plan, reaffirmed the UNโ€™s commitment to providing technical and financial support to Liberiaโ€™s development agenda/ ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development and impartial fulfillment of Vision 2030.

The UN Vision 2030 is the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that seeks to provide a blueprint for peace and prosperity for all people across the globe.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator indicated that adherence to principles of effective development cooperation; aid effectiveness would be enhanced through deepened mutual accountability and sustainable development for the people of Liberia.

Madam Umutoni noted that the United Nations and its partners would align their cooperation framework with Liberiaโ€™s national vision and plan.

Currently, the National Development Planning process is being developed amid global efforts to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with six years remaining.

The ARREST Agenda targets six SDG transitions: food systems, energy access, digital connectivity, education, jobs and social protection, and climate change-biodiversity-pollution.

Assistant Internal Affairs Minister for Research & Development Planning, Hon. Emmanuel Wheinyue, added that the development planning process will be participatory, gender-sensitive, and inclusive of all citizens, residents, minorities, and marginalized communities, as well as civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, and private sector entities, starting from the general town level.

The workshop gathered participants from the fifteen counties, including Superintendents and County Development Officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), Regional Development Officers and County Monitoring Officers from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), County Statistic & Information Officers from the Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo-Information Service (LISGIS), alongside Hon. Female Suspect Pleads for Mercy as LDEA Bomi Detachment Seizes 750 Kilograms of Co***ne

BOMI COUNTY, LIBERIA- Despite attempts by detractors to undermine the work of the LDEA in the fight against drugs, a major breakthrough was announced today. The Bomi detachment seized approximately 750 kilograms of highly concentrated co***ne around the Tubman burg belt in Bomi County.

Commander Jusu credited the arrest to enhanced intelligence and dedication by his team, resulting in the apprehension of Ms. Rita S. Williams, who claims to work for the foreign ministry. She was found in possession of a significant amount of co***ne - 750 kilograms valued at thousands of dollars on the street.

Commander Jusu, recently appointed by suspended Director Col. Abe Kromah, expresses gratitude to the dedicated men and women for their professionalism and commitment in working towards President Joseph N. Boakai's vision to combat the drug crisis in Liberia.

Currently, suspect Williams is in the custody of the LDEA and is undergoing processing for prosecution through the court system. It is important to highlight that under the existing drug law, individuals convicted of drug offenses may face lengthy prison sentences as bail is not an option.

Maryland County, Liberia- The REYC Cape Palmas leadership arranged a rejuvenating fellowship at St. Epiphany Episcopal Church in Grand Cavalla.

After the second day's session, REYC Coordinator Brother Leroy Antonio Nimely encouraged all youth members to follow God's commandments. In an interview with West Africa Web TV, he promised to prioritize agriculture, including livestock and crops, to enhance sustainability and increase the youth treasury. Additionally, he committed to setting up three agricultural sites in Harper, Pleebo, and Karluway Districts.

Moreover, the fellowship featured a range of educational and engaging activities such as Holy Eucharist, fundraising events, teaching sessions, quizzes, debates, physical activities, discussions on the doctrine and history of the Episcopal Church, and discussions on the roles and duties of youth leadership. The theme for this year is "Youths, we're called to serve the Lord with commitment," with a scripture reference from Ecclesiastes 12:15.

Agriculture Committee Chair Sister Genevei Wongbe and Co-chair Roland Chobuson stressed to their fellow Christians the importance of agriculture in helping REYC become the leading organization in Liberia. The Committee specifically pointed out potatoes, eddoes, cassava, and plantain as the most rapidly growing crops.

During the intersection session, Madam Precious Wilson, host president of St. Epiphany Episcopal Church in Grand Cavalla, informed West Africa Web TV that youth activities had been inactive from 2021 to 2023. She assured the general assembly that her leadership would introduce strong strategies to revitalize the youth programs.

She expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Regional Episcopal Youth Council for the significant acknowledgment in organizing a fellowship with them to collaborate on the church's growth and development. The president informed the group that the church, being the first missionary church in Liberia with its cornerstone laid in 1851, was the focal point of discussion.
