WAEC Boss Dale Gbotoe Announces 2024 WASSCE Results
The Head of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Liberia, Dale Gbotoe, has officially released the results of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Speaking at a press conference held at the council’s headquarters in Monrovia on Monday, September 16, Mr. Gbotoe revealed that the exams, conducted from May 15 to June 25, 2024, saw thousands of candidates sitting for nine subjects in total. Arts students sat for seven subjects, while Science candidates took a minimum of seven.
Gbotoe provided a detailed breakdown of the performance across various subjects, highlighting Economics and Biology as the highest-scoring subjects.
According to his report:
Economics: 26,760 candidates passed out of 44,376, yielding a pass rate of 60.32%.
Geography: 20,810 out of 48,354 candidates passed, resulting in a pass rate of 43.04%.
History: Of 43,018 candidates, 13,324 passed, giving a pass rate of 30.97%.
Literature: Only 1,518 of 42,788 candidates passed, resulting in a low pass rate of 3.55%.
English Language: 21,515 out of 47,255 candidates passed, with a pass rate of 45.3%.
Mathematics: 14,321 of 45,998 candidates passed, leading to a pass rate of 31.3%.
-Biology: 31,010 of 48,754 candidates passed, with a pass rate of 63.6%.
Chemistry: 12,726 of 40,098 candidates passed, resulting in a pass rate of 31.74%.
Physics: Gbotoe did not provide clear figures for this subject.
Gbotoe emphasized that Economics and Biology were the top-performing subjects, both achieving pass rates above 60%. He also noted that the overall pass rate, where candidates passed at least one subject, showed significant improvement compared to the first national WASSCE in 2018.
However, individual results will be abscessed beginning Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
This year’s WASSCE saw participation from candidates across Liberia and neighboring Guinea.
