Gasoline Price Hit 1,800LRD In Ganta.

Report from Nimba County says the pump price for a gallon of gasoline in Ganta City is now being sold between LRD1,500 (USD10.00) and LDR 1,800 LD (USD 12.00) from previously LRD830.

As a result of the sudden increase, commercial drivers, including motorcyclists have correspondently increased transport fares in the commercial city.

The fare from Ganta to Monrovia previously LRD1,200 is now LRD2,000, while from Ganta to Tappita, Zekepa and Sanniquellie, Karnplay and Luoguato border are now between LRD 2,000 and 5,000, respectively.

However, amid the increase in pump price of gasoline in the county, major commodities such as rice, gas and cement continue to cross into neighboring Guinea from Ganta on the Liberian side.

Liberian Joint Security assigned at the border are seen daily receiving bribes from Guinean truck drivers to allow these items to leave Liberia.

Meanwhile, motorcyclists in Ganta, Nimba County are threatening to protest against the abrupt increase in the price of gasoline.

Some aggrieved motorcyclists lament that most of them rely on the motorcycles to feed their homes and send their children to school, while others say they are in daily susu and monthly clubs and have to pay monthly due and daily susu card, but hike in gasoline price is affecting the business.

Here in Monrovia, the pump price for a gallon of gasoline is reportedly LRD850 from 750, while the pump price for a gallon of diesel or fuel previously sold for LRD900 is now LRD1,000.

Emiliano Martinez saved three penalties as Argentina beat Colombia in a semi-final shootout to advance to Saturday's Copa America final against Brazil.

The Aston Villa keeper denied Davinson Sanchez, Yerry Mina and Edwin Cardona from the spot after the game ended 1-1.

Lionel Messi set up Lautaro Martinez to put Argentina ahead before Luis Diaz levelled to send the game to penalties.

The final will be broadcast live on the BBC, with kick-off at 01:00 BST on Sunday, 11 July.

Messi, Lautaro Martinez and Leandro Paredes all scored their penalties in the shootout, but Emiliano Martinez was the hero as he produced a hat-trick of diving saves after being rarely troubled during the game.

The 28-year-old, who moved to English football with Arsenal and had loan spells at Rotherham, Oxford, Reading, Sheffield Wednesday and Wolves, also earned a talking to from the referee for his ceaseless chat aimed at Colombia's players as they lined up to take their kicks.

"They took us to penalties and that's a question of luck, today it was my turn for glory," he said. "I'm speechless."

Six-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi, who is looking to win his first senior trophy Argentina, praised the Villa keeper for ensuring they "fulfilled our objective" of reaching the final.

"It was difficult at times," Messi said. "But we have 'Emi' and he's phenomenal. We trusted him."

Argentina, who won the last of their 14 Copa America titles in 1993, face defending champions Brazil at the Maracana on Saturday.

Brazil, who have won the Copa America nine times - and on all five of the previous occasions they have hosted the tournament - beat Peru 1-0 in the other semi-final on Tuesday.

Baejay TV/Baejay FM: Latest Headlines 23/June

Two senior staff of Cuttington University who died within four days was the result of Covid-19-like symptoms, sources inside the B**g County Health Team have told Baejay TV.

Our source said the two Cuttington University staff died after battling the virus for more than two weeks respectively.

Our source said plans were underway for the B**g County Health Team to conduct contact tracing to determine which students or faculty might have been exposed to the two senior staff before their deaths.

One source told the newly created TV Baejay that the B**g County Health Team is also contemplating recommending the closure of the university until those believed to have come in contact with the two Cuttington University staff are isolated.

Several attempts by our reporter to contact the university’s president Dr. Romelle Horton proved fruitless as her phone rang endlessly.

The alarming deaths of two senior staff of the university have sent shockwaves among students and parents. One student told Baejay TV: “For the past one week, we have lost two senior staff. As we come to terms with their loss there is a sense of fear and relentless.”

One lecturer described the situation on campus as “very disturbing” at a very crucial time of the semester.

“We are facing a herculean task in making the students wear face masks and use sanitizers, besides observing physical distance. The moment when we felt some relief, the virus is once again bothering us. Our concern is that several students continue to come to the schools without masks. Also, we are not sure whether the students who wear masks in class are following precautions after leaving the premises,” he said.

“The deaths of our senior staff have reduced attendance on campus. Students are afraid to come on campus.”

There are also concerns among students if the two senior staff got infected on campus. One lecturer told our reporter: “No one has told me officially that they had COVID.
