REMEMBRANCE OF DEAD ELEPHANTS - 2023
වාර්ෂික මියගිය අලි ඇතුන් සැමරුම - 2023
We have been conducting a ceremony annually since 2019 to remember and pay tribute to the memory of dead elephants many of whom have died as a result of Man's Inhumanity.
This year we decided to have the annual event conducted on Saturday the 30th of December 2023 in Galgamuwa near the Monument dedicated to the dead elephants.
This area was particularly chosen because it is in surroundings that many of the wild elephants have met an untimely sad death.
There will be a Walk (procession) in memory of the dead elephants. The other items of this function will include the serving of gilanpasa/ refreshments, pansakula ceremony for the dead elephants and officers that had sacrificed their lives for the protection of elephants, short speeches by several experts, musical interludes, lighting of 100 oil lamps in front of the Monument, and the like.
Kindly join this ceremony by gathering at the starting point of the Walk at 3 pm near the 50km post (10 km away from Galgamuwa Town towards Anuradhapura).
It would be ideal and most welcome if you would kindly bring with you a photo or painting of a dead elephant or when the elephant was alive, a small poster with a verse or any other similar artistic creation displaying empathy for animals.
Dress - full or top white colour.
