Full implementation of 13A, early Provincial Council elections are critical - Jaishankar

India's External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar said that the full implementation of the 13th Amendment and early conduct of provincial elections are critical for political devolution.

He was speaking in Colombo on Friday (20) alongside Foreign Minister Ali Sabry, and with President Ranil Wickremesinghe present at the President's Office.

Laugfs reduces prices of domestic gas cylinders

Laugfs Gas announced that it reduced the prices of its domestic gas cylinders. New prices (Colombo) as follows:

12.5 kg: Rs. 5,080/-
5 kg: Rs. 2,032/-

Litro Gas announced that it decided to reduce the prices of its products with effect from Thursday (5) night.

The price revision is as follows:

12.5 kg LP Gas Cylinder reduced by Rs. 201/- to Rs. 4,409/-. (Old Price Rs. 4,610/-)

5 kg LP Gas Cylinder reduced by Rs. 80/- to Rs. 1,770/- (Old Price Rs. 1,850/-)

2.3 kg LP Gas Cylinder reduced by Rs. 38/- to Rs. 822/- (Old Price Rs. 860/-)

Activist Sepal Amarasinghe remanded

Social Media activist Sepal Amarasinghe who was arrested by the CID for making defamatory comments regarding the Sacred Tooth relic, was remanded to the 10th of January.

Amarasinghe was arrested on Thursday (5) in Bellanwila by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department.

Earlier on Thursday (5), President Ranil Wickremesinghe instructed the Inspector General of Police to immediately investigate the request made by the Mahanayake Theros of the Asgiri and Malwathu chapters and the Diyawadana Nilame of the Dalada Maligawa regarding a fake Dalada Maligawa that is being constructed in Wadakada, Kurunegala.

The President's Media Division said that the Inspector General of Police had said that investigations were launched under a Deputy Inspector General of the Criminal Investigation Department.

The IGP has noted that two investigation teams under the supervision of an Assistant Superintendent of Police have visited the site in question for an inquiry.

The Mahanayake Thero's of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters of the Siam Sect, and the Diyawadana Nilame of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy have addressed a join letter to the President and requested President Ranil Wickresinghe to fulfil the duty of protecting and nurturing Buddhism as enshrined in the constitution.

They also directed the President's attention towards reports on a fake Temple of the Tooth, and the comments made by an individual on social media that harm the mindset of the Buddhist people.

The letter notes that preventing these events at the very beginning would lead to the betterment of Buddhism.

The join-letter urged the President to take immediate action over these matters.

The Chief incumbent of the Kotte Sri Naga Viharaya Venerable Kotahene Naratha Thero also filed a complaint with the Police Headquarters over the matter.

President meets with Election Commission members

Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe summoned the members of the National Election Commission for an emergency meeting at the President's Office.

A Senior Official at the National Election Commission told TNL Tv Digital that the meeting took place based on an invitation extended by the President.

It was reported that the Attorney General was also present for the meeting.

The members of the National Election Commission had informed the President that there is no way to prevent the Local Government Elections from taking place, unless via constitutional or judicial action.

The Election Commission officials had informed the President of the future programs relating to the election.
