Journey Along the Meandering Mahaveli -A Spectacular Bird's Eye View

Kandy Sports Club Captain Lavanga Perera Announces Retirement

In a significant development for the rugby community, Kandy Sports Club's beloved captain, Lavanga Perera, has officially announced his retirement from professional rugby. This news comes as a poignant moment for fans and teammates alike, marking the end of an era in Lavanga's illustrious playing career.

Lavanga, renowned for his exceptional talent and leadership prowess, began his rugby journey as the skipper of Kingswood Sevens, showcasing his skills and dedication from 2009 to 2011. His final year at Kingswood saw him lead the sevens outfit, leaving an enduring legacy within the school's rugby fraternity.

Following his tenure at Kingswood, Lavanga transitioned seamlessly into the ranks of Kandy Sports Club, where he etched his name into the annals of rugby history. His tenure with Kandy SC was marked by unparalleled commitment, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, earning him admiration and respect from fans and peers alike.

Lavanga's influence extended beyond the borders of Sri Lanka, as he represented the nation in both sevens and fifteens formats, gracing fields across various Asian countries. Notable appearances include the Asian Sevens series, Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and Asian Games in South Korea, where his contributions left an indelible mark on the international stage.

In addition to his exploits on the field, Lavanga also dedicated himself to nurturing the next generation of rugby talent. His role as the Head Coach of Kandy Sumangala Under-16 outfit, coupled with his responsibilities overseeing the backs of the Under-19 team, underscores his commitment to fostering the growth and development of aspiring young athletes.
