Our Story
The Independent Television Network – The pioneer television station in Sri Lanka. Started operations on 13th April 1979 with very modest beginnings, On 5th of June 1979 ITN was converted to a government owned business undertaking, under a Competent Authority. In 1992 ITN was converted to a public company under State jurisdiction. This became the very first television station for the whole country and it has stood as an example in Television Station in Sri Lanka. Lakhanda FM is the Sinhala Language FM Channel and the Vasantham FM is the Tamil language channel along with this two channels’ combination ITN has became the independent network and established itself. Mr. Anura Siriwardena presently serving as the chairperson of the Independent Television Network. In the year of 2009, 25th of June Independence Television Network’s Tamil Television Channel has started its Tamil Channel called “Vasantham TV”. From the time of beginning of the channel it has the coverage only to the Western Province. Afterwards it has expanded its coverage towards Jaffna and also has expanded the coverage through the South Asian tallest Kokkavil Transmitting Tower and it covered whole Northern Province. As the next step through the Madulseemai Transmitting Tower it has expanded its broadcasting to Uva Province, Badulla District and Eastern Province.
இலங்கையில் முதன்முதலாக தொலைக்காட்சி சேவையை அறிமுகப்படுத்திய சுயாதீன தொலைக்காட்சி சேவையானது, இலங்கையின் முன்னோடி தொலைக்காட்சி நிறுவனமாகும். இது 1979 ஆம் ஆண்டு, ஏப்ரல் மாதம், 13 ஆம் திகதி ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டது. அத்தோடு 1979 ஆம் ஆண்டு, ஜூன் மாதம் 5 ஆம் திகதி இந்த நிறுவனம் அரச உடைமையாக்கப்பட்டது. இதுவே இலங்கையிலுள்ள தொலைக்காட்சி சேவைகள் அனைத்திற்கும் முன்மாதிரியான தொலைக்காட்சி சேவையாக அமைந்ததோடு, லக்ஹன்ட சிங்கள வானொலிச் சேவை, வசந்தம் எஃப். எம் தமிழ் வானொலிச் சேவை என ஊடக சேவைகளை ஆரம்பித்து, ஒரு சுயாதீன ஊடக வலையமைப்பாக மாறி இலங்கையில் தன்னை நிலைநிறுத்திக் கொண்டுள்ளது. இந் நிறுவனத்தின் தற்போதைய தலைவராக திரு. அநுர சிரிவர்தன பதவி வகித்து வருகிறார். 2009 ஆம் ஆண்டு, ஜூன் மாதம் 25 ஆம் திகதி சுயாதீன ஊடக வலையமைப்பின் தமிழ்த் தொலைக்காட்சி சேவையாக ‘வசந்தம் தொலைக்காட்சி’ ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டது. ஆரம்பத்தில் மேல் மாகாணத்துக்கு மட்டுமே தனது சேவையை வழங்கியிருந்த வசந்தம் தொலைக்காட்சியானது, நாளடைவில் யாழ்ப்பாணத்துக்கும், தெற்காசியாவிலேயே மிகவும் உயரமான ஒளிபரப்புக் கோபுரத்தைக் கொண்ட கொக்காவில் தொலைத்தொடர்பு கோபுரத்தின் மூலம் வடக்கு மாகாணம் முழுவதற்குமாக தனது சேவையை விஸ்தரித்தது. அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து மடுல்சீமை ஒளிபரப்புக் கோபுரம் மூலமாக ஊவா மாகாணத்தின் பதுளை மாவட்டத்துக்கும், கிழக்கு மாகாணம் முழுவதற்குமாக தனது சேவையை விஸ்தரித்துள்ளது.
