New York Earthquake: WATCH The Moment When Statue Of Liberty Shakes In 4.8 Magnitude
A remarkable event was captured by the surveillance camera on top of the Statue of Liberty as New York City experienced a rare 4.8 magnitude earthquake on Friday.
Millions of people across New York and Philadelphia were shaken by the seismic activity, which was unusual for the region and caused no widespread damage but startled an area unaccustomed to tremors.
Lightning strikes Statue of Liberty
While talking about the quake, New York Governor Kathy Hochul described it as "one of the largest earthquakes on the East Coast in the last century".
Further, a widely-shared image showed lighting strike Statue of Liberty during a storm. The remarkable image, clicked by photographer Dan Martin, shows a lightning bolt appearing to touch Lady Liberty's torch.
Friday's earthquake was centered in Tewksbury in central New Jersey, about 64 kilometers west of New York City, and occurred just after 10:20 am ET (1420 GMT) at a depth of 4.7 kilometers, according to the US Geological Survey.
No major damage or injuries were reported, but residents were urged by authorities to take cover under furniture, in a doorway, or next to an interior wall if they felt aftershocks.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy was briefed by US President Joe Biden about the earthquake, and assistance will be provided if needed, as stated by the White House.
At the United Nations headquarters in Manhattan, the Security Council meeting on the Israel-Gaza conflict was interrupted as cameras began shuddering, captured on camera by Save the Children CEO abruptly.
The earthquake on Friday was the largest felt in New York City since a 5.8-magnitude earthquake in Virginia in 2011, which prompted evacuations of City Hall and other buildings and caused damage in Washington.

#UPDATE | At least four dead in Taiwan after magnitude - 7.5 earthquake
Magnitude 7.5 earthquake rocks entire island of Taiwan, collapsing buildings in a southern city and creating a tsunami that washes ashore on southern Japanese islands.
Taiwan's strongest earthquake in a quarter century has rocked the island during the morning rush hour, damaging buildings and highways and causing the deaths of four people.
Taiwan's national fire agency said Wednesday at least four people died in Hualien County and at least 57 were injured in the quake that struck just before 8 a.m (0000 GMT). The local United Daily News reported three hikers died in rockslides in Taroko National Park near the offshore epicentre.
A five-story building in Hualien appeared heavily damaged, collapsing its first floor and leaving the rest leaning at a 45-degree angle. In the capital Taipei, tiles fell from older buildings and in some newer office complexes, while debris fell from some building sites. Schools evacuated their students to sports fields, equipping them with yellow safety helmets. Some also covered themselves with textbooks to guard against falling objects as aftershocks continued.
Train service was suspended across the island of 23 million people, as was subway service in Taipei, where a newly constructed above-ground line partially separated. The national legislature, a converted school built before World War II, also had damage to walls and ceilings.
Traffic along the east coast was at a virtual standstill, with landslides and falling debris hitting tunnels and highways in the mountainous region. Those caused damage to vehicles, though it wasn't clear if anyone was hurt.
Despite the quake striking at the height of the morning rush hour just before 8 a.m. (0000 GMT), the initial panic faded quickly on the island, which is regularly rocked by temblors and prepares for them with drills at schools and notices issued via public media and mobile phone.
Authorities said they had only
#BREAKING | South Africa: Girl, 8, only survivor as 45 killed in bus crash
A bus carrying worshippers to an Easter festival plunged off a bridge on a mountain pass in South Africa and burst into flames, killing at least 45 people.
The only survivor of the crash was an eight-year-old child, who was receiving medical attention, according to authorities in the northern province of Limpopo. They said the child was seriously injured.
The Limpopo provincial government said the bus veered off the Mmamatlakala bridge and plunged 50 metres into a ravine.
Search operations were ongoing, the provincial government said, but many bodies were burned beyond recognition and still trapped inside the vehicle.
Authorities said they believe the bus was travelling from the neighbouring country of Botswana to the town of Moria, which hosts a popular Easter pilgrimage. They said it appeared that the driver lost control and was one of the dead.
Minister of transport Sindisiwe Chikunga was in Limpopo province for a road safety campaign and changed plans to visit the crash scene, the national Department of Transport said.
She said there was an investigation under way into the cause of the crash and offered her condolences to the families of the victims.
The South African government often warns of the danger of road accidents during the Easter holidays, which is a particularly busy and dangerous time for road travel.
More than 200 people died in road crashes during the Easter weekend last year.
The Zionist Christian Church has its headquarters in Moria and its Easter pilgrimage attracts hundreds of thousands of people from across South Africa and neighbouring countries.
This year is the first time the Easter pilgrimage to Moria went ahead since the Covid-19 pandemic.

#WATCH | Foreign students attacked in India over Ramadan prayer at university hostel
Multiple students were injured following mob violence against a gathering of Muslim individuals engaged in prayer on the university grounds in Gujarat state
At least four international students sustained injuries when a Hindu extremist mob reportedly barged into a university dormitory in western India's Gujarat state and assaulted the group of students for praying during the sacred month of Ramadan, as per reports from local media.
India's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the weekend promised to enforce severe measures against the culprits, while the state police in the hometown of Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed that a probe was in progress regarding the assault at Gujarat University.
According to the students who spoke to local media, a small assembly gathered on Saturday evening within the boys' hostel premises for the Ramadan tarawih prayer since there is no mosque on the university campus situated in Ahmedabad.
Shortly after, a group armed with sticks and knives invaded the hostel, assaulting them and causing damage to their rooms.
"A cluster of 15 students were engaged in prayers when three individuals arrived and began chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' (Hail lord Ram). They opposed our prayers in this location," a student was quoted as saying by local media.
"Subsequently, approximately 250 individuals arrived and chanted 'Jai Shri Ram'. They hurled stones and wrecked hostel property," he added.
A student from Afghanistan informed the local NDTV network: "They also assaulted us within the rooms. They shattered laptops, phones and wrecked bikes," mentioning that the AC and sound system were also ruined.
Footage circulated on X, formerly known as Twitter, depicted plundered student dormitories and a crowd damaging the students' motorcycles with elongated tools.
"We cannot endure this," remarked an African student in his video recorded from the hostel.
