Dar el-Machreq (DeM) is a print and digital Jesuit publishing house in Lebanon and worldwide.
It all started with the Jesuit Fathers as they established the Catholic Press “al-Maṭbaʻa al-Kātūlīkīyya” in the year 1848. Al-Machriq magazine, Majani al-Adab, One Thousand and One Nights, and Arabic Language Principles were of its very first publications.
In the year 1982, The publishing department was separated from the printing press and was called: “Dar el-Machreq”. DeM continues the mission: reinforcing the fields of education, culture, an inter-religious dialogue.
Creative production
Over the years, Dar el-Machreq was characterized by creativity in authorship, classification, and translation. DeM has been keen since the early beginning to follow a firm linguistic, scientific, and artistic methodology in book production. Thus, its publications are consistent with the institution’s mission represented by bringing the best publications to its readers in Lebanon and the world. In this perspective, DeM insists on cooperating with finest authors and researchers in various fields of humanities, religion, and general culture.
Al-Mounged Tree
In the year 1908, The Catholic Press had launched Al-Mounged Dictionary and became one of its proud. This dictionary was elaborated by the pioneer Father Louis al-Maalouf S.J. which is updated periodically. By 2018, 22 dictionaries have been published, with more than half a million copies. The e-Mounged is now free to the public!
Cultural and Philosophical Books
Dar el-Machreq offers university students and researchers, particularly in humanities and sociology, two high-level scientific collections: one is entitled “Research and Studies” issued in collaboration with Saint Joseph University of Beirut, while the second is entitled “Texts and Studies”. In addition to those collections, there are other Arabic collections dealing with philosophy and literature, as well as some other studies in sociology, politics, religions, general culture, and youth stories.
Religious and Spiritual Publications
Religious and spiritual publications open wide doors that empowers the mind and nourishes the soul.
These books include adequate topics, from biblical and Koranic interpretations to interfaith dialogue, theology, and spiritualties. The Arabic Catholic Translation of the Bible is the heritage of DeM, and has various printed versions.
School Books
The series of Arabic school books by DeM is considered as one of its jewels. Elaborated by Mr. Kamal al-Chartouny and Mr. Elias Haddad, these books include a section devoted to the local Lebanese market and another one to the Arab world. These series adopt active educational methods which consider the student at the heart of the educational process. They also put technology at the service of education through interactive digital exercises. In addition to these books, there are history and geography textbooks elaborated by Dr. Edmond Chidiac and a group of authors.
Al-Machriq Magazine
In 1898, the first edition of Al-Machriq magazine was issued by the pioneer Father Louis Cheikho S.J. DeM is still faithful to this commitment by producing this cultural and universal magazine twice a year, aiming at coping with religious and world issues. It contains dialectical, philosophical, social, literary, and scientific articles in particular, as well as artistic and linguistic articles and relevant cultural issues.
Al-Machriq E-Magazine
In 2013, DeM surfed the electronic wave and issued its first e-Magazine edition, issued twice a year. This digital magazine is characterized by comprehensive and varied literary, religious, artistic, spiritual, and social topics which allow the reader to directly communicate with the writer and to give his opinion and comments on the articles.
In 2017, it was followed by e-Machriq spiritual magazine which brings together, in every issue, a spiritual or theological theme inspired by the publications of our ancient library. It is published two times a year.
e-Books
In 2014, Dar el-Machreq improved its paper publications by digitizing in order to shorten the distances and reach bookworms in the digital era. These e-Books are available on many digital platforms such as Amazon, Google Play, Almanhal and Kounouz.
Today, Dar el Machreq, faithful to her e-Readers, started creating and distributing her
e-Books through her new Department of Communication & Digital Production.

تاريخ عريق
دارُ المشرق مؤسّسةٌ يسوعيّة للنشر المكتبيّ والإلكترونيّ في لبنان والعالم أجمع.
كانت بدايتها مع المطبعة الكاثوليكيّة حين أبصرت النور في العام ١٨٤٨ على أيدي الآباء اليسوعيّين. من أولى إصداراتها مجلّة المشرق، ومجاني الأدب، وألف ليلة وليلة، ومبادئ العربيّة.
فُصِل قسمُ النَّشْر عن المطبعة في العام ١٩٨٢، واختير له اسمُ "دار المشرق". فتابعت الرسالة: تعزيز القطاعات التي من شأنِها خدمةُ العلم والثقافة وحوار الأديان.
نتاج مبدع
تمتاز مسيرة دار المشرق بالإبداع في التأليف والتصنيف والترجمة، والجودة في الإخراج والطّباعة. فالمؤسّسة حرصت، منذُ تأسُّسها، على اتّباع منهجيَّة صارمة لُغَويًّا وعلميًّا وفنيًّا في إنتاج الكتب على أنواعها، لتكون منسجمةً مع رسالتها المتمثّلَة برفْدِ القرَّاء في لبنان والعالم بأفضل المؤلَّفات والمجلَّدات. وفي الاتّجاه نفسه، حرصتْ دار المشرق وما تزال على التعاون مع نُخبة من المؤلّفين والباحثين في مختلف ميادين العلوم الإنسانيَّة والدينيَّة والثقافة العامَّة.
شجرة المنجد
أطلقت المطبعة الكاثوليكيّة في العام ١٩٠٨ معجم المنجد الذي يُعَدُّ من مفاخرِها، وهو للأب العلاّمة لويس المعلوف اليسوعيّ، وتحرص دار المشرق على تجديده بوجه دوريّ. وقد بلغ عدد قواميسها بالإجمال في مطلع العام ٢٠١٨ اثنين وعشرين قاموسًا في السوق، في مجموع نسخٍ يزيدُ عن النصف مليون.
الكتب الثقافيّة والفلسفيّة
تقدّمُ دارُ المشرق إلى كلِّ قارئٍ ولاسيّما الطالبِ الجامعيّ والباحثِ في حقلَي العلومِ الإنسانيّةِ والعلومِ الاجتماعيّةِ سلسلتَين علميّتين رفيعتَين: واحدةً بعنوانِ "بحوث ودراسات" تُصْدِرُها بالتعاونِ مع جامعةِ القدّيس يوسف، وواحدة بعنوان "نصوصٌ ودروس". ويُضاف إلى هاتَين السلسلتَين مجموعاتٌ عربيّةٌ أخرى تتناولُ الفلسفة والأدب، فضلاً عن دراساتٍ في الاجتماعِ والسياسةِ والأديانِ والثقافةِ العامّة وقصصِ الأحداث.
المنشورات الدينيّة والروحيّة
للمنشورات الدينيّة والروحيّة أبوابٌ واسعةٌ تُحاكي العقلَ وتُغذّي الرّوح. تشمل هذه الكتب موضوعاتٍ وافية من شروحٍ لنصوصٍ كتابيّة وقرآنيّة، وحوارِ الأديان، وعلم اللاهوت والروحانيّات. ومن الأعمال التراثيّة التي تفْخَرُ بها دار المشرق، الكتاب المقدّس ـ المعروف بالترجمة الكاثوليكيّة ـ بطبعاته المتعدّدة باللغة العربيّة.
الكتب المدرسيّة
من مفاخر دار المشرق سلاسل الكتب المدرسيّة في اللّغة العربيّة للأستاذين كمال الشّرتوني وإلياس الحدّاد، وهي تشمل قسمًا مُخصّصًا للسُّوق المحلّيّة اللّبنانيّة وآخرَ للبلدان العربيّة. تعتمدُ هذه السّلاسل على الطّرائق التّربويّة النّاشطة التي تعتبر المُتعلّم محور العمليّة التربويّة. وتواكبُ التّكنولوجيا في خدمة التّربية والتّعليم من خلال تمرينات تفاعليّة إلكترونيّة. يُضافُ إلى هذه السلاسل كتبُ التاريخ والجغرافية المدرسيّة للدكتور إدمون الشّدياق مع نخبةٍ من المؤلِّفين.
مجلّة المشرق
صدر العدد الأوّل من مجلّة المشرق في العام ١٨٩٨على يد العلّامة الأب لويس شيخو اليسوعيّ. وتتابع دار المشرق نشر هذه المجلّة المُحكّمة الثقافيّة الجامعة مرَّتين في السَّنة، وتهدف إلى معالجة قضايا الدِّين والدّنيا. تَجِدُ فيها المقالاتُ الجدَليّةُ والفلسفيّةُ والاجتماعيّةُ والأدبيّة والعلميّة مكانَها الأرحب، تمامًا كالمقالاِت والقضايا اللغويّةِ والفنيّةِ وكلِّ ما يتّصلُ بالشؤون الثقافيّة.
مجلّة المشرق الرقميّة
دخلت دار المشرق في العصرِ الإلكترونيّ في العام ٢٠١٣، وأصدرت أوّل عددٍ لها من مجلّة المشرق الرقميَّة، وهي تصدر مرَّتين في السَّنة. وتتميّزُ هذه المجلّة بموضوعاتٍ شاملةٍ ومُنَوَّعة من أدبيّة ودينيّة وفنيّة وروحيّة واجتماعيّة، تسمح للقارئ أن يتواصل مباشرةً مع الكاتب وأن يبدي رأيه الشخصيّ خطّيًا في ما قرأَه.
تبِعتها المشرق الروحيّة في العام ٢٠١٧، وهي تجمع في كلّ عدد لها موضوعًا روحيًّا أو لاهوتيًّا مقتبسًا من مكتبة دار المشرق العريقة، وتصدر مرّتين في السنة.
الكتب الإلكترونيّة
صاغت دار المشرق إصداراتها إلكترونيًّا في العام ٢٠١٤، كي تختصر المسافات وتكون بمتناول محبّي المطالعة والقراءة في العصر الرقميّ. وهي متوافرة على العديد من المنصّات الرقميّة مثل: أمازون، وجوجل بلاي، والمنهل، وكنوز، وغيرها .
رؤيتنا المستقبليّة
اليوم، وبعد مرور أكثر من ١٧٠ سنة على تأسيس دار المشرق، تتابع هذه الدار رسالتها بزخم وخلّاقيّة وإتقان وتحتضن إبداعات رموز الثقافة في العالم العربيّ. وعدنا أن تبقى هذه الدار مخلصةً لرسالتها، متنبّهةً لحاجات الإنسان الفكريَّة في لبنان والإقليم المحيط، منفتحة على تطوُّر المجتمعات، ومواكبة العصر الإلكترونيّ والمعلوماتيّة، لتكون رائدة في هذا المجال.
