What are your favorite little details of pre-Christmas atmosphere? Mine is Advent Calendar, although I never had it, but always wanted.

Do you know that Advent Calendar is German origin, and is about 200 years old?

Brief history of how it was invented:

🗓 beginning - middle of XIX century: German Protestants began to mark the days of Advent marking walls or doors with a line of chalk each day - countdown to Christmas

🗓 beginning of XX century: calendars were printed for the first time

🗓 1920s: doors were added to the calendar

🗓 1950s: calendars with chocolate began to appear and spread around the world

In recent years the popularity of Advent Calendar exploded.

Since I never had my Advent Calendar due to belonging to different culture, but I really love the idea! Specially with chocolate :) So I decided to create my own Online Advent Calendar where, unfortunately I cannot share chocolate with you, but I can share motivational & inspirational daily predictions.

Finally, after 4 months actively watching how others grow their accounts by 1958674 followers with Reels, and being switched off all this time, TODAY I’ve got Reels back in my account.

- Why you did not use them before when you had them from February till June? - you might be asking me, and you will be right.

My excuses were:

❌ Reels is like TikTok which I hate
❌ I don’t believe it works
❌ Nah, too complicated to create
❌ I will not dance in these reels, I am a serious lady :)))

What changed my mind?

✔️witnessing growth of other accounts in real time
✔️forbidden seems more pleasurable (4 months off from reels)
✔️desire to repeat experiments

I admit, confess and get out of my comfort zone - start reels challenge for 30 days.

F*ckups I did in my first 6 months Insta-life:

✖️Setting unrealistic goals and high expectations to myself.
Result: when I see a mountain of tasks is not done yet, I lose motivation and stop doing even basic things. At the end NOTHING is done.
💡Takeaway: break a big goal into smaller milestones, and enjoy your little success of every little step.

✖️ Looking around at other blogs, experts and always comparing myself.
Result: devaluing myself, losing confidence - staying like a turtle in the corner, moving very slowly.
💡Takeaway: it’s less than a year I dived into social media marketing world, learning everything on my own. And my uniqueness was noticed! DO NOT LOOK AT OTHERS, VALUE YOUR OWN PATH / MISTAKES / SUCCESS - YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE

✖️No clear goals, going with the flow.
Result: It took me longer to understand what I really want to do and how I can help people.
💡Takeaway: plans should be done not daily, but weekly -> monthly -> quarterly. Sales targets experience can be easily implemented into life targets.

TIPS FOR YOUR CONENT - “WHAT TO POST?”

“So much time spent on posts - nobody comments or likes” / “I keep posting info about my product, but still no sales”. “How to get customers via Instagram?” “Everyone is talking about it, but where are those mysterious clients?”

Classic struggles, specially for Commercial and Expert accounts. As the result - “Instagram is not for me”, “You can sell only if you wear bikini”, “Nah, I’ll leave it for later”, while your competitors keep conquering online sales tools, selling to YOUR clients.

Recently I’ve seen a comment “Instagram allows 30 hashtags, so ALL OF THEM MUST BE USED WHEN POSTING, otherwise additional opportunities are lost” But how true is that?

I’ve digged through lots of researches, experiments, plus information from online courses and got confirmation to my knowledge:

Yes, Instagram allows up to 30 hashtags, but did you know that:

💡 The most efficient quantity of hashtags to use is between 11 to 15, but not 30
💡 If you SPAM people with hashtags, Instagram might put you in a shadow ban
💡 If you add irrelevant hashtags - shadow ban
💡 If you use the same hashtags for a month or so, they stop working - you must reshuffle them

Summary:

Keep updating your knowledge and watch trends, constantly! In social media they change almost every month. Hashtags used to be powerful years ago, but planning account promotion ONLY based on 30 hashtags under every post is an out fashioned illusion.

I can’t describe enough how I enjoy my life at the moment! Thanks to Social Media and 1 year in Kuwait.

After 18 years of being employed… My holidays were like 5 minutes of fresh air, I never had more than 10 days vacation because I was scared to lose my sales pipeline, clients will forget me and I will fail my target.

Coming back from holidays was always depression for about first 3-4 days when I wanted to submit resignation letter…

What changed?

Finding myself in complete isolation during pandemic in one of the most closed countries in the world - Kuwait - Instagram became my only link with civilization and connection with people. Not hours, but DAYS spent watching online lessons, practicing, experimenting, jumping from topic to topic, finding my way and my style - it all brought me to making money online.

Today I feel FREEDOM of:

- choosing a client I want to work with (not running after target tolerating toxic clients)
- choosing a place where I will work from (cafe, my parents home in Ukraine / my friends’ villa at the beach front / my sister’s place in Dubai)
- managing my blog how I want and post what I want

Would I come back to be employed again? I really doubt…

My next goal is to create my own course about tools in social media that will help everyone else to sell their products online and to get the same freedom as I managed to get.

I started at the number of 580 and finished at 723.

The tools I used:
🛠 Facebook ads
🛠 Shoutout of my audience
🛠 2 live sessions

What did not work:
🔻 Facebook publishings in the groups (trying to route audience from there)
🔻 LinkedIn stories (and LinkedIn in general - audience doesn’t flow to Instagram from LNKDiN)
🔻 My attempts of reaching out to bigger bloggers and Publics for promotion (no reply)
🔻 I chose wrong timing: last 5 days of the challenge fell on EID holiday where audience activity rate was lower, ads were much less efficient and I just switched off - wrong time planning from my side

What was the most efficient:
✔️ Facebook ads and intrigue of the challenge - lots of feedback from existing and new followers
✔️ Reposts of the existing audience who supported me - I’ve got some extra followers from it

What I could use, but did not (missed opportunities):
❓TikTok posts - this is my own personal attitude problem, I just simply can’t force myself posting there, I really tried though a while ago
❓Same with Reels - I did try a while ago, but still did not feel (maybe I do not have enough patience) to keep posting them to catch the algorithm. Still I am not TikTok / Reels person

Even if today I still did not reach my initial goal, I am not upset because:
💡 It gave me deeper understanding of working closer with my audience (more engagement, what triggers people to follow my blog and which content is really interesting)
💡 My tests made me understand what I should not waste my time for, thinking that the public group of 15k members will come to me all together after my post
💡 More practice in storytelling in Stories, feeling more responsible and organized for my blog
💡 I will still reach it sooner or later :)

This will help me in my future bigger goals of commercializing my blog.
Let’s watch WHEN exactly I’ll get my magic number “1000” :)

Motivation fuel tank is blinking with orange light, but the followers support is like a lifebuoy. Your ❤️ will throw the coal in the fire.

Sent requests to influencers for shout out - 0 reply. Sent request even to famous DXB female public with commercial proposal for shout out - 0 reply. Two versions: or they really look at the No. of followers and do not work with anyone below 1000 (but in this case they could at least send a polite reply and explain the criteria), or they just never dealt with blogs asking them for shout out (DXB public did, they just ignored my message).

Tested this week:

✅ Live sessions with two wonderful ladies, similar audience and account sizes.

✚ Great experience. Amazing tool for building loyal audience, showcasing your expertise. Would love to repeat this. In order to grow followers Live partner should be still a bit bigger. For expert blog - best thing to build personal brand.

➖If you did not do Live sessions, and suddenly started, do not do 2 lives in a row - audience will be a bit surprised and not used to it. It’s better to do it every Sun / Mon / same week day same week time. And should be announced a week in advance at least.

✅ GCC facebook ads test. Results are in saved Highlights. Brief summary:

🎯 Best quality audience - UAE.
🔍 Cheapest click - Qatar.
👀 Least interaction with - Oman.
🧩 Most expensive and irrelevant audience - Kuwait. All the invitations for cup of coffee are from KW campaign :)

💡Thinking of coming back actively on YouTube
💡Wanted to use LinkedIn stories to post my challenge there (4300 connections), but the criteria to attach the link to Stories is 5000 connections, so it’s on my list to get the criteria.
💡Thinking of testing TikTok, but do not feel still jumping out of pants…

It’s obviously clear: only FB target is not enough to grow quality audience fast, outside platforms and actions must be done.

After I posted about my challenge, I received such a great support from my audience! 🙏 Extremely thankful for each ❤️ and comment!

First steps I’ve done towards my goal:

1. Launched FB ads targeting my audience: UAE, Kuwait, other GCC countries (smaller budgets). Result +10 followers

2. Created Story line posting my ad in stories and asked my followers to do the screenshot + repost. Result +5 followers

But the best thing happened to me after I publicly announced my challenge - I received a collaboration proposal, which I could never even expect or initiate myself (more details tomorrow). And that will be additional tool to get to my goal. Plus gave me further ideas how to get there!

My Insight:
💡Tell the world your intentions! If you are silent about them - you’ll never know there is someone around the corner ready to offer you a shortcut.

👉 Still to go:

20 days / 400 followers (20 followers a day)
1st day +15 followers
🐌 should be speeding up with new ideas!

What you MUST NOT do for your account for not to kill it in 2021

Common Social Media Disease of Middle East is fake accounts, fake likes with fake followers.

When you look at 20k-50k-100k account, but then you dig deeper and you see 41 like under the post of such account, which statistically cannot be… You check Stories - it’s some reposting of GaryVee or any other Personal-Motivation-Billionaire-account. Highlights look like a mess. You understand - FAKE.

There is a whole science around engagement rate %, how many likes vs.followers, etc must be for a genuine account, not fake one. There are even services that help to identify fake from real: www.tredhero.io - this can save you from flushing your money to ads of fake influencers that will never work.

Yes, in 2021 Instagram entry level is much higher than 2014. When I watch big bloggers 100k+ and how they manage their accounts (boring stories reposting others motivational phrases, no useful info and no intrigue, no ‘series’ line) - I understand they are stuck in 2015-2016 and if they had to start Insta-life in 2021, they would be nowhere.

One important thing everyone forgets in the Middle East online environment: BOTS DO NOT HAVE CREDIT CARDS TO BUY ANY SERVICE OR PRODUCT, and THERE ARE SERVICES THAT CAN EASILY SPOT FAKE / LOW ENGAGEMENT RATE WHIVH DIRECTLY IMPACTS EFFICIENCY OF ANY “influencer”

If you don’t want to kill your account from the start, want to grow loyal audience that will be able to buy your products/services, or products you advertise - please do not do these things to your account:

❌ no fake bots-followers

❌ no give aways (Instagram algorithm will cut your visibility straight away after people massively follow then unfollow your account)

❌ no fake likes / comments - Insta algorithm identifies even this

Please work on your engagement rate naturally, build loyal audience that tomorrow will buy from you!

And always remember: BOTS DO NOT HAVE POCKETS + GIVE AWAY FOLLOWERS COME FOR FREE STUFF + INSTAGRAM IS NOT STUPID

Instagram Bio is your online business card. You have 3-5 seconds to sell yourself by highlighting WHY someone should be interested in your account.

Save the post just in case if you decide to change your Bio in future.

Search (BOLD) line - is like Google search line. Mention what you exactly do / sell in your account.

Example. If you are real estate agent - write it straight away, do not write your name (unless you are a celebrity) or anything else not related to your services.

Other things to be mentioned:
1. Your outstanding feature / achievement 2.What's the benefit of your blog?
2. How your services / product cover people's need or solve the problem
3. Call to action how to get these benefits
4. link to your landing page / offer / website

When I was shooting my first Facebook ad for promotion of my account, I was damn sure “It’s gonna be so great! My followers are waiting for me!!!” After I launched it, I was checking my account every hour - no new followers… just 0! I just got one comment “why don’t you remove your red lipstick from your teeth?”

I could not understand what’s wrong and why nobody follows me…? Even sent the video to my friends asking their advice.
After watching watching watching other ads, courses, blogs, even consultation of a FB ads specialist, I can highlight main mistakes I did half a year ago:

❌ My Bio - it was not offering any use to a potential follower - why people should follow my blog? What’s the use of it?
❌ My saved Highlights - were only my “travel” highlights that nobody cares about, and again - no use to a potential follower, only talking about what I like. Who cares? I am not Sophia Loren that people would care about my passion.
❌ My ad was talking about Business in the Middle East, but in my Highlights about my blog people could find only me wearing Jerry t-shirt and showing my nails while driving 🤦‍♀️
❌ I was not posting stories back that time, so again - the potential followers would have thought “what’s going on here? A girl passionate about Middle East, promising some business in her ad just wears Jerry, shows her nails and last time saved stories were 3-4 weeks ago… It doesn’t look what it promised”
❌ My posts feed - even though I was posting more often, but visually I did not plan the harmony of my photos

I still keep learning, watching, improving and updating myself, on the way to the best version, but I already know on my skin what you should avoid for not to flush your money for nothing just because you did not prepare your profile.
