ABSTRACTS AND PAPERS
1) Deadline of abstract (200-300 words) submission: June 30, 2023
2) Deadline of full paper (2000-3000 words / 5-6 pages) submission: August 31, 2023
3) Notification for the selected presenters: progressively from June 2023. The earlier an abstract is submitted, the earlier its author will get notified, which is important for a travel planning.

Other relevant issues will be welcome.

To encourage the critical scholarship in inter-Asia cultural studies, The IACS Society has set up the IACS Dissertation Prize, to be granted every two years to recognize and honor the emerging and exciting research in the field. Dissertations intending to enter this competition will have to be nominated first either by his/her advisor or a scholar in the field. The period in which dissertations are considered are from August 1, 2021 to July 31, 2023. The successful candidate will have to have his/her Ph.D. in hand by July 23, 2023. The successful dissertation will demonstrate engagement with the IACS scholarship, emphasizing an attempt at advancing the inter-Asia methodologies and knowledge production on the local, regional, and/or transnational registers.

The nomination form will have to be submitted to [email protected] by February 28, 2023. The nomination form is attached here.

After an initial screening, the dissertations will be reviewed by the dissertation prize committee in February, and the decision will be announced by mid-May. The prize winner will get a chance to present his/her work at the IACS conference and receive a USD$500 award.

국제 포럼

한국예술종합학교 트랜스 아시아 영상문화연구소(소장 김소영)는 국제 포럼을 09.30-10.01 양일에 걸쳐 개최한다.

재일 조선인 여성 감독 박수남의 영화 작업과 활동을 기리는 이 포럼은 0930, 박수남 감독과의 시네 토크로 시작한다. 오시마 나기사의 이라는 영화의 바탕이 된 책 을 비롯 원폭, 강제 징용 피해자, 위안부 생존자, 학도병, 오키나와 전투 생존자들과 대화, 연대하며 제작한 (1986), (2016>과 다큐멘터리 등 반세기가 넘는 그의 작업을 돌아보고자 한다.

10월 1일 패널 1은 라는 주제로,초국적 기억, 대안적 역사기술을 아키이브를 중심에 두고 쟁점화한다. 패널 2는 영화, 이미지, 아카이브의 정치적 특정성을 논의한다. 이규 (CUNY), 임지현 (서강대) 교수의 사회로 비교영화연구, 문화사,젠더 정치를 연구해온 안민화(한예종), 정충실(한국연구재단), 크리스 베리(킹스 칼리지), 쇼타 오가와 (나고야 대) ,정종화 (한국영상자료원), 얼 잭슨 주니어 (UC Santa Cruz 명예교수), 권은선 (중부대), 김경옥 (한림대), 배주연(서강대), 황미요조(서울국제여성영화제),이유미 (한국영상자료원), 손이레(스미스 칼리지), 김소영(한예종)이 발표와 토론을 맡는다.

The forum, Addressing Archives: Women, Diaspora, Filmmaking will be held by Trans: Asia Screen Culture Institute,Korea National Univ.of Arts (Sep.30-Oct.1, 2021).

The forum is dedicated to Park, Sunam, Zainichi woman filmmaker in Japan, journalist and activist. Since 1963, she has been active with publishing a book titled Guilt, Death and Love(1963) that inspired Death by Hanging(1968) by Oshima Nagisa. She has committed herself to the issues of A-bomb victims, enforced labor victims during the colonial period, comfort women, student war veterans, the survivors of Okinawa battle and continued making documentaries.

The forum consisted of Cine-talk with Park, Sunam on the first day ( Sep. 30) and two panels (0ct. 1) will look back on her achievements thinking through her films like (1986) and (2016) within the framework of transnational memory and alternative historiography in conversation with the cinematic, image and archive of political specificities.
