Mason Korea students got a taste of home campus spirit with a visit from Green Machine, Mason Fairfax’s pep band! 🇰🇷🇺🇸

The band’s performance at Mason Korea’s 10th anniversary events not only brought school spirit but also gave our students a chance to collaborate with Green Machine’s media team, GMedia, and learn about videography, photography, and event production.

Last month, PACSC-A took a group of students to the DMZ, a stark reminder of the ongoing conflict between North and South Korea.
Through visits to historic sites like Imjingak Park and the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, students gained firsthand insights into the devastating impact of war and the challenges of achieving peace.

On November 10th, the relegation of Incheon United was officialized. Incheon, failing to escape from the bottom of the table, will play in the second division, K League 2, in the 2025 season. With the first ever relegation of the club, K League fans were shocked, while Incheon players and staff apologized to their fans and promised to come back stronger next season.

The issue of electric vehicle fires have questioned the safety of electric vehicles.

The Office of University Life is excited to announce the first annual International Week, celebrating Mason Korea’s vibrant international and diverse community. This three-day event will engage the Mason Korea community in global learning and intercultural sharing through a variety of arts, game activities, live performances, an esports competition, international film screening, and an international food cafe.
The theme for International Week 2024 is “CONNECTION,” emphasizing global citizenship, community, and fostering relationships.

The Office of University Life will have lots of free food and snacks for most events!

Early October, South Korean writer Han Kang won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature. She is the 18th woman to win the prize since 1901.

She was born on November 27, 1970 and made her debut in 1993 with her published work, Five Poems. She won the International Booker Prize (2016) with the work “The Vegetarian.” This was her first novel to be translated into English by Deborah Smith, who only began teaching herself Korean in 2010.

The novel for which she won the Nobel Prize is called “Human Acts.” It is about the Gwangju Uprising, which happened in May 1980, in which more than 100 civilians were killed by the South Korean military. In its citation, the Nobel Prize Committee said that “she has confronted historical traumas and invisible rules, exposing the fragility of human life in each of her works.”

The 'Midterm Manitto Event' held this week at the Global Lounge was successfully completed! This event offered students a chance to spread warmth and support to each other ahead of the upcoming midterms. A total of 30 participants sent care packages filled with snacks to their friends, sharing positive energy within the community. The care packages included cookies, orange juice, coffee, and granola bars. Alongside the event, a voting booth was set up where students and staff could vote for their preferred presidential candidate between Harris and Trump. Fall 2024 Majorlympics On October 7th, Student Government held their second Majorlympics where students from all six of Mason Korea’s majors had the opportunity of competing against each other and the faculty in three different tournaments. This event was a wonderful experience for those attending to be able to promote school spirit while bringing all the majors together. Congratulations to ECON for winning the Fall 2024 Majorlympics!
