You can encounter skyshine, like what was shown in our last post, at Chernobyl due to the high levels of radiation emitted from the exposed reactor core.
But what about other power plants?
Many nuclear reactors don't even produce skyshine! The picture below was taken at the D.C. Cook Power Plant in Michigan using one of our radiation imagers. We took a 91-minute measurement that shows this Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR), like all PWRs we have seen, doesn't produce significant skyshine radiation since no radiation can be seen above the reactor.
The spots visible near the ground are part of the insignificant environmental background collected over long measurements.
