Inspired by 19th-century English parks, the new space aims to provide an educational and relaxing experience, featuring organic gardens and versatile structures for restaurants and retail. The project is just one element in a more sustainable, longer-term strategy for developing the island into a hub for locals and tourists alike.

Today we look back at our conversation with Cambodian artist, Svay Sareth, from the 2021 edition of Discover magazine. Online for the first time, read about Sareth's youth as a refugee, his work and the concept behind BLUE ART Center - an arts and design school that was in its infancy at the time the article was written.

“How can somebody fight for freedom? It’s linked to why I need to create Blue Art,” he says. “You cannot be alone in the world.”

While the artworks which gave Svay Sareth his name were inspired by his country’s violent past, he now hopes young Cambodians can reconnect with their cultural roots through his latest passion project

Travelling between Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh by road has long been an ordeal, with trucks swerving into oncoming lanes to pass vehicles, heavy traffic and frequent flooding. The Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway has transformed this experience, making travel between the two cities faster, safer and more reliable.

Focus’ Ian Hollinger further explores how this piece of infrastructure has fundamentally changed the road transportation system between these two cities.
