Canada’s Trudeau hits back at US with retaliatory tariffs
Canada will hit back at US tariffs with 25% levies of its own on select American goods, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Saturday.
“Canada will be responding to the US trade action with 25% tariffs against Can$155 billion ($106 billion) worth of American goods,” he said in a dramatic tone as he warned of a fracture in longstanding Canada-US ties.

Suspension of U.S. Aid impacts Cambodia's Landmine clearance efforts
Ly Thuch, Senior Minister and First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority, said that over 1,000 Cambodian deminers are facing unemployment following the United States' suspension of aid.
Thuch made these remarks during the signing ceremony of the Australia-Cambodia aid agreement on January 30, 2025.
Thuch explained that the United States, under its new government, has recently suspended support for the Cambodian landmine sector, which includes landmine clearance and other related programs.
CMAC pauses demining activities in eight provinces as US foreign aid freeze
The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) announced the temporary suspension of operations in the provinces of Kampong Cham, Kratie, Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri, Stung Treng, TboungKhmum, SvayRieng, and Prey Veng. This decision follows the suspension of all assistance the US government provides to partner organisations supporting CMAC’s activities.
Walk Street to open on February 1
The official opening of Walk Street is set to take place on February 1 along Sisowath Quay, extending from Street 94 to Street 240. Residents within the Walk Street vicinity are urged to remove their vehicles prior to the commencement of the event.
The opening ceremony will occur on February 1, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM. To facilitate smooth transit for both domestic and international visitors and to minimize congestion, the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration has announced a temporary road closure, accompanied by traffic restrictions for all vehicle types.

Prime Minister inspects intervention in pumping water to people’s rice fields in Bati district
This morning, Prime Minister Hun Manet visited farmers in Bati district, Takeo province, who were pumping water for their rice fields through the Prek Thom canal. He inspected and monitored the water pumping through various canals to help save the rice crops of farmers in nine communes.
