"This is my son's friend Jared.
Before I hear any wise cracks. Jared has been fighting lung cancer and we almost lost him. He was recently cleared to workout. Today his arm measured 8 1/4 inches and his legs just over 12". and he's at ZERO % body fat. I'm taking him under my wing. Stay tuned for Jared's progress.
Jared and his friends at Body Alive are forever grateful for the support from all of you. Keep the kind words coming, it means a lot."

‘We live in a 4-bedroom home and this is us. Every night, every morning.’: Widower shares sweet way he supports grieving kids
“We live in a 4 bedroom home.
And this is us.
Every night and every morning.
This is us.
I used to fight it.
I used to tell them that this wasn’t.
I’d tell them that they’d get better rest in their own beds.
To give it a chance.
That their beds are more comfortable than my floor.
It never worked.
No matter what I said.
Two Februarys ago, I spent each night on the floor, next to Rachel’s hospital bed.
People tried to tell me to go home.
To get some rest.
To give it a chance.
That my bed would be more comfortable than the floor.
It never worked.
No matter what they said.
It took me almost two years, but I get it now.
No one was going to convince me to leave her side.
No matter what anyone said, by her side is where I was going to be.
There was no place where I felt safer than on the floor, right next to her.
I don’t fight it anymore.
It’s been almost 2 years since they lost their mommy to cancer.
In that time it’s become pretty clear that by my side is where they are going to be.
And that to them, no place feels safer, than on the floor, right next to me.”

Don't yell at him.
Don't blame her.
Listen to her in silence, pay attention even though she always tells you the same things.
Be patient, laugh with her, stay close even if you think she has nothing left to teach you.
Go see her as often as you can.
Don't make her feel lonely.
Bring her a flower.
Give her a kiss, a caress, a smile.
Take her to dinner, by the sea... a walk will also do.
If you don't have time find it.
If you're far away, call her and tell her you're coming with her.
Do it don't send it!
Do it before that chair is empty.
She is waiting for you.
Ever since.
She has so much to tell you and more to give you, more than you can imagine.
Every mother holds the eternal, where there is always forgiveness. ❤ ❤

I hate to break the bad news, but Sam passed away naturally at 18 years old two days ago. He went downhill quickly (less than 10 hours) due to a pericardial effusion. He was just playing with his ball two days before. We stopped at the dog park on the way to the vet for one last cheeseburger. He wouldn’t eat it. When I looked into his eyes, I knew I couldn’t give up on him if there’s something I could’ve done for him. I opted to not put him down, but to drain the effusion to buy us a couple of days to do some testing. No sooner was I signing the credit card payment, when the ER vet came running out and told me he was passing (they completed the procedure, which is supposed to feel relieving, but his body couldn’t handle it). I think the way he went was perfect. He didn’t have much suffering and he fought til the very end. I did, however opt for DNR because why resuscitate him for it to happen all over again? I feel like we both got the closure we needed. I’ll miss him very much but I’m so glad we both went out fighting and loving each other.

I want to share the experience that my husband, 7 year old autistic sister and I had today at the Chili’s location in Midvale, UT. Arianna, my little sister, didn’t waste any time when our waitress, Lauren, greeted us at our table. Arianna promptly ordered her cheeseburger with pickles, french fries, and chocolate milk before Lauren could even take our drink order. Lauren smiled and told Arianna, “Okay! I’ll be right back with your chocolate milk!”. When we got our food I was wondering why Arianna wouldn’t touch her cheeseburger, but was going to town on her french fries. I asked her, “Arianna are you going to eat your cheeseburger?” She calmly said, “No, I don’t want it.” Cheeseburgers, or ‘Krabby Patties’ as we sometimes call them, are her FAVORITE! So this behavior was VERY strange. So I asked her, “Why don’t you want it?”. She replied, “It’s broken. I need another one thats fixed.” Then it dawned on me why she wasn’t eating it. It’s because it was cut in half. Being a child with autism, she has to have certain things in a particular order at all times. One slight change in her routine can change the course of the day instantly. When Lauren came back to check on us, I asked if we could order another cheeseburger and just add it to our check. She had a concerned look on her face so I explained that Arianna has autism, and that in her mind, because the cheeseburger was cut in half, she thinks its broken and can’t eat it. I told Lauren I knew it sounded silly, but if we could just order an additional one we will gladly pay for it because there was nothing wrong with the one that was originally brought out. Lauren was so sweet and just smiled and went along with Arianna, telling her “I brought you a broken cheeseburger?! You know what, I’ll have them cook you a new one!” I loved this because rather than just taking it from the table, she actually TOLD Arianna what she was doing. While this seems insignificant, by her telling Arianna what she was doing, we avoided a melt down. The manager, Bradley Cottermole, then came to our table, kneeled down, and said to Arianna, “I heard we gave you a broken cheeseburger! I am so sorry about that! We are making you a brand new one that isn’t broken, with pickles! I’ll bring you some french fries to munch on while you’re waiting, ok?” A couple of minutes later, Lauren arrived back at our table with cheeseburger #2. Arianna said, “OH FANK YOU! You fixded my cheeseburger!” When Lauren walked away, Arianna just sat there for a second and looked at her new burger. She looked like so deep in thought....just staring at it....then she let out a big ”OH I missed you!!” and started kissing the burger over and over again. I showed Lauren this picture and said, “I think we glorified the cheeseburger too much!” She busted up laughing, and asked if she could go show her manager. She came back a minute later and said she showed everyone in the back kitchen area too, and that it made them all laugh and smile. I was so touched by this experience. Especially since I know people who have been asked to leave restaurants when their child with autism is being disruptive. I expected a few different things with this scenario based on past experiences, but I did NOT expect such kind and compassionate mannerisms from Lauren and Bradley. Everyone, from the hostess to the chef, played a role in what most people would think isn’t a big deal. But this entirely shaped how the rest of our day would go. I know...a cheeseburger cut in half literally could make or break our day. In this case thanks to the professionalism of the crew in Midvale, it made our day. And I’m sure Arianna brightened up at least one of the employees days with her silly little personality. Thank you.

"The pilot was standing around as I got out of my wheelchair to board my flight to Portland. He followed me and the flight attendant who volunteered to carry my bag. I fling myself into my seat. He quickly asked, "were you in the military." I replied "yes."
He said, "Afghanistan 2010?" Again, although surprised this time, I said slowly "yessss."
He then told me that he recognized me, my injuries, and my face. He told me he never knew if I survived or not.
Marc Vincequere is his name. He flys w United now. Crazy small world. He was the pilot that flew me out of Afghanistan."

"Hello everyone
This is my daughter she is 12 yrs old.
Her name is Madison. A very rare thing happened to her transplanted kidney,
It actually flipped inside of her and her blood vessels got kinked up. So for a few hrs her kidney had no blood flow to it.
Doctors had to do an emergency surgery, and flip her kidney back around.
She’s in a real lot of pain, and the upper part of her kidney unfortunately died. So we are hoping and praying that the rest of her kidney keeps working. There is blood flow just a very small amount, and the kidney is stressed. So I am asking for prayer for her that we don’t have to do dialysis again and that her kidney will do what it needs to do.
Thanks so much. God is good!! ❤️❤️"

Although popular culture has embraced the myth that sunflowers always follow the sun, this is inaccurate. Only young flowers “move” to face it throughout the day. Once they reach maturity, they stop sun-tracking—their blooms forever turned eastward.

Recent studies suggest that sunflowers share a common mechanism with human beings, circadian rhythms organized around a 24-hour day. Scientists hypothesize these circadian rhythms—behavioral changes associated with an internal clock—explain sun tracking in young blossoms.

Young blooms face east at dawn to meet the rising sun. Then, throughout the day, they slowly modulate west as the sun moves across the sky. Once it sets in the west, the plants spend the night slowly turning eastward to start the cycle again.

As sunflowers mature, this process comes to a halt. Overall growth slows, and the flower’s circadian clock reacts most intensely to the sun’s early morning rays than those later in the day. As a result, the blooms gradually stop tracking westward altogether.

Preparing a woodpecker for winter.
First, he finds a dead tree and starts making holes for the acorns. Each hole is made very thoughtfully, because if the hole is large, other birds can easily steal the acorn. If the hole is narrow, the nut can break and deteriorate. By the end of summer, the woodpecker's "jewelry" work ends, by this time the acorns ripen and take their places in the tree. The trunk of a large tree can hold about 50,000 acorns, allowing the bird a satisfying winter.

A teacher gave a balloon to every student, who had to inflate it, write their name on it and throw it in the hallway. The teacher then mixed all the balloons. The students were then given 5 minutes to find their own balloon. Despite a hectic search, no one found their balloon.

At that point, the teacher told the students to take the first balloon that they found and hand it to the person whose name was written on it. Within 5 minutes, everyone had their own balloon.

The teacher said to the students: "These balloons are like happiness. We will never find it if everyone is looking for their own. But if we care about other people's happiness, we'll find ours too."

May your day be filled with happiness. ❤️
