The "Kambu and Mera" is one of legends that told about "The Birth of Cambodia". The legend described Hermit Kambu* fell in love with Mera who is an apsara. Apsara Mera is an apsara who always protect and save people who live in land later known as ancient Cambodia. They married together and established a kingdom named "Kambumera", later called "Kambuja" or "Kambujea**" which mean as "Land of Kambuj***", Kambuj is name of people who live in Kambuja or descendants of Hermit Kambu and Apsara Mera.

The story might be new version of the legend of "Kaundinya and Soma", founder of Funan. Cambodian people of Angkorian period changed name of King or Brahman Kaundinya to Kambu and character of Queen Soma (Queen Naga) to Apsara Mera when Apsara became to be popularity for public.

* Kambu pronounced as Kampu
**British people pronounced Kambujea to Cambodia.
*** Some kings in ancient Cambodia (Angkorian period) also announced they were "King of Kambuj".
