Baringo North Constituency and the Magic of a Leaking Water Tank
Baringo North is not only a cattle rustler’s playground and an illegal shooting range, but is also a home of untapped innovators in the field of Agriculture.
A solar powered borehole in Chemoi village has once and for all solved the problem of water scarcity but amidst all the celebration about water, the recently established borehole has proved to all that Africans sometimes don’t require schooling to solve their problems and if it were so,Baringo would have become a paradise because of the too many degrees and the very many educated leaders seating in Kabarnet ,but busy propagating corruption, and tribalism.
At the end of their five years, they will have nothing tangible to prove that indeed, they have been helpful in positively impacting on the lives of the most disadvantaged members of the human society.
Africans need freedom and encouragement to think outside the learning they obtained in that four walled class room or that lecture hall. Education is knowledge acquired through the market driven principles of demand and supply. Knowledge is infinite and the custodians of the present world hold the believe that any knowledge you never bought in the University is not viable, until you produce the receipt mostly in form of a diploma, degree or a PhD.
No one should ever have the monopoly in defining what knowledge is, and what kind of knowledge is crucial in sustaining a comfortable human life on earth. Even the too educated depend on the food produced by those who are not educated.
Because of a leaking water tank at the Chemoi borehole, a bright African mind has seen the need to utilize the big amount of water going to waste. On top of a rocky and poor arable soils, the bright mind has created a kitchen garden with the power to feed about 50 households residing in Chemoi, including some government security officers residing nearby.
The garden is thriving with too much sukuma wiki, sweet

According to the Baringo North elder, many married men commit suicide after realizing that the wife they married is still communicating with a lover of her past .

FOOD SOVEREIGNTY -LAKE BARINGO WATER SHOULD NOW BE PUMPED OUT FOR USE IN IRRIGATION
Kampi Samaki is a fishing Village in the shores of Lake Baringo. It is a thriving trading center and with fish being the engine that drives the local economy, the town is becoming a magnet for Kenyans from as far as the Lake Victoria basin.
During most festive seasons around the year, both local and international tourists flood Kampi Samaki with money, instantly transforming it into a state of bliss.
‘’Festive season is the only time we make money in Kampi Samaki, but this is just short-lived!’’ Esther Talai Kibet,a fish monger revealed in a gathering of women in the shores of the lake, convened to discuss women participation in the promotion of Food sovereignty under Article 43 of the Kenya Constitution.
The meeting was convened by Haki Nawiri Africa in Collaboration with Monica Yator, Director in charge of the Indigenous Women and Girls Initiative.Brian Odero, speaker of the East Africa Youth Parliament graced the event, and promised to work with youth from Kampi samaki.
The meeting revealed that many families in Kampi Samaki depend on fishing as the only income generating activity and due to lack of markets, fish mongers are not making enough money to buy other kinds of food , and cater for their other basic necessities.
Apart from the lack of markets, the meeting revealed that the fish catch from Lake Baringo is also decreasing, mostly like the effects of climate change. The increase of water in the lake have most likely affected the fish food and their breeding grounds.
‘’An occasional visitor is the only buyer of our fish in Kampi Samaki’’ said Evaline Kibet, pointing out that the County Government of Baringo should consider building an Hospital, or a Teacher training College to boost trade and other investments in Kampi Samaki.
They also pushed the county Government of Baringo to grant access to investors who wish to establish quarry sites within Kampi S

Climate Change-Capturing the Last Fishes in the Dry Molo River
This is Baringo County,a county of immense thirst for water, affecting both humans and animals.
School children run to the dry river beds to replenish their energies as the head home from school under the scorching sun.
They only find pools of unclean water which they must drink or risk dehydration.
Capturing the last mudfishes along the now dry Molo River in Marigat requires a lot of team work ,and is a also drama of hide and seek between humans ,and the fishes that seek to preserve their lives until a season of rain and plenty food.
Because of the prolonged dry season, the reality of Climate Change, all animals that live in the flowing river have gone into a state of hibernation.
Crocodiles also live here.
Due to an ever increasing human population within Marigat, high demand for fish is not about to slow down.
Human beings are pursuing the animals to all lengths, and flushing them out of their hideouts. They use water pumps to drain the last pools of water, and expose the fish for easy harvesting including the juveniles.
Demand for fish is going up within Baringo County .That is not a problem if the flow of water in Molo river is not interrupted upstream.
The reproduction cycle of the fish is facing a likely risk and mostly because of the changing climate patterns.
Apart from a fall in the river discharge due to insufficient annual rains, Molo river, originating from the embattled Mau escarpment is highly exploited by flower farms, and other the many entrepreneurs now keen to make a fortune through irrigation farming.
The zero policy in regulating the use of water along the Molo River is affecting thousands of lives within Marigat.
