Kenyaโ€™s elite amateur golfer Michael Karanga of Kiambu Golf Club has qualified for next yearโ€™s Magical Kenya Open.

The tournament is slated for February 20โ€“23 at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi.

Although Karanga lost the 2024 NCBA Nyali Open title to John Lejirma of Kenya Railway Golf Club on Sunday, his exceptional performance throughout the year saw him claim the overall Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series title.

He topped the leaderboard with 834.5 points after competing in 18 tournaments, winning nine of them.

His victories this season include prestigious tournaments such as the Uhuru Shield, NCBA Kiambu Golf Open, NCBA Manchester Salver, NCBA Kenya Railways Invitational, NCBA Coronation Cup, NCBA Limuru Open, NCBA Coast Open Barry Cup, Karen Challenge, and the Malindi Open Vasco da Gama Cup.

This is Karangaโ€™s second consecutive KAGC title, following his dominant 2023 season where he won 13 of 17 tournaments.

With his 2024 series win, he secures automatic qualification for the 2025 event, a prominent stop on the DP World Tour that attracts elite professional golfers from around the globe.

Karanga has set ambitious goals for the upcoming tournament.
โ€œNext year at the Magical Kenya Open, I aim to make the cut, or even finish in the top ten, and create history for Kenya,โ€ he said.

Mitansh Thacker and Hazel Kuria emerged victorious in the first-ever NCBA Western Junior Open held at Kisii Sports Club.

The duo triumphed in the boysโ€™ and girlsโ€™ categories, competing against 49 junior golfers who braved chilly weather in Kisii County.
Thacker started strong, posting a 75 in the opening round on the unfamiliar course.

A challenging second round saw him score 80, but he made a remarkable comeback in the final round with a 73, bringing his total to 228 points to secure the overall boys' title.

Hazel Kuria, who placed sixth overall, claimed the top prize in the girls' category with consistent scores of 80, 83, and 80 over the three days.

Justin Ngeera began strong with a 78, surged ahead with a 76 in the second round, but slipped with an 80 in the final round, finishing second overall, six strokes behind Thacker.

However, he claimed victory in the boys' 13-year category.

Kenyaโ€™s team of talented lady golfers achieved an impressive third-place finish at the just concluded All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) in Agadir, Morocco.

Naomi Wafula, Mercy Nyanchama, and Bianca Ngecu posted a combined score of 439, finishing seven over par (+7) at the Tazegzout Golf Club after three days of intense competition.

The host nation, Morocco, clinched victory with a dominant 425 points (-7), while South Africa secured second place with 427 points (-5).

Moroccoโ€™s Sofia Cherif won the individual title with a stellar score of 204 (-12), followed by South Africaโ€™s Kesha Louw (210) and Lisa Coetzer (217).

Bianca Ngecu delivered a standout performance, finishing fourth in the individual category with a score of 220 (+4).

Mercy Nyanchama tied for fifth with Moroccoโ€™s Rim Imni at 223 points, while Naomi Wafula secured seventh place with 226 points.

Kenya's team of talented lady golfers is in Morocco to compete in the 16th edition of the All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT).

The 2024 AACT, Africaโ€™s premier womenโ€™s golf competition, is taking place at the Tazegzout Golf Club in Agadir, from Wednesday, November 27, to Sunday, November 30, 2024.

Speaking to Golf Score Kenya, Team Captain Naomi Wafula expressed her pride in leading the team.

โ€œI am deeply honoured to represent and captain Team Kenya at the All Africa Challenge Trophy. This prestigious event offers a unique platform to showcase our talent while fostering unity and friendship among nations through golf. We are determined to give our best and make Kenya proud,โ€ she said.
