Over 140 golfers participated in this year’s Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ICPAK) Annual Charity Golf Event at Nyali Golf and Country Club.

𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫: Everlyne Akinyi (HCP 26) emerged victorious with an impressive 43 points.

𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬: Elly Limo displayed exceptional skill, carding a gross score of 77 to claim the Best Gross honours.

𝐌𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: Aaron Kikuvi played a solid round, finishing with 40 points.

𝐋𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬’ 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: Petronilah Kalee led a competitive field with 38 points.

Over 130 golfers from Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania are set to compete in the highly anticipated NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale on November 29 at Muthaiga Golf Club.

The participants, drawn from over 23 clubs—16 in Kenya and seven across Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania—secured their spots in the finale through stellar performances in the qualifiers held over the past 10 months.

The final regional qualifier is scheduled for November 24 at Kili Golf Club in Tanzania, where the last contenders for the season finale will be determined.

Last weekend, four players from Kisii Sports Club joined the list of finalists after excelling in the Kisii Monthly Mug, which served as a special qualifying event.

Although the main qualifying rounds in Kenya concluded last month at the Great Rift Valley Lodge, the Kisii Monthly Mug offered golfers another chance to vie for a coveted spot in the finale.

Elijah Simba, Christopher Maoto, Christine Nyangena, and Venus Taabu emerged victorious in their respective categories, earning them slots at Muthaiga.

Michael Karanga of Kiambu Golf Club is set to be crowned the 2024 Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series winner.

On Sunday, Karanga secured his eighth title of the season at the third edition of the NCBA Kiambu Golf Open, having participated in 16 tournaments this year.

His other victories this season include the NCBA Manchester Salver, NCBA Kenya Railways Invitational, NCBA Coronation Cup, NCBA Limuru Open, NCBA Coast Open Barry Cup, Karen Challenge, and the Malindi Open Vasco da Gama Cup.

Karanga's win at the NCBA Kiambu Open solidified his lead in the KAGC series standings, where he currently boasts 776 points.

Leveraging his home-course advantage, Karanga dominated the field with an impressive 5-under-par total of 139 over two rounds, finishing eight strokes ahead of his competitors.

Last year’s Kiambu Open champion, Naomi Wafula of Vipingo Ridge, and Kenya Railways' John Lejirma tied for second place, each finishing with a total score of 147, three over par.

Last year, Naomi Wafula made history as the first female golfer to win a tournament in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series.

The Vipingo Ridge Golf Club star stunned the East African golf community by clinching the Kiambu Open title in a thrilling showdown against Uganda’s Godfrey Nsubuga.

The two competitors were neck and neck, finishing the three-round tournament at the par-72 Kiambu Golf Club course with identical scores of two-under-par 214.

This tie led to an intense four-hole playoff on holes 1, 2, 8, and 9, where they remained deadlocked.

The competition then escalated to a sudden-death playoff on hole 18.

Both players parred on their first attempt, but on the second, Wafula held her nerve, sinking a par while Nsubuga faltered with a bogey, sealing her historic victory.

This weekend, Wafula returns to Kiambu for the 2024 NCBA Kiambu Open, which tees off today and runs from Friday to Sunday.

Speaking to Golf Score Kenya ahead of the third edition of the event, Wafula expressed confidence in her readiness to defend her title.

How Joyce Murigi Triumphed at the 2024 Muthaiga Lady Captain's Prize

Joyce Murigi emerged as the overall winner at the SBM Bank-sponsored 2024 Muthaiga Golf Club Lady Captain’s Prize Golf Tournament, which concluded this past weekend.

Playing off a handicap of 22, Murigi scored an impressive 39 points on Saturday to outperform her competition.

Her victory earned her an air ticket to Mauritius.

Young golfer Bianca Ngecu claimed the Ladies Division One title.
Playing off a handicap of 14, Ngecu carded 38 points, narrowly beating Olive Njagi (handicap 17), who scored 37 points.

In the Division Two category, Susan Kanyora (handicap 23) scored 38 points to secure the win, ahead of Hannah Gatu (handicap 30), who finished in second place.

Aiddah Yusuf won in the Division Three category.

Former Muthaiga Golf Club Lady Captain, Patricia Ngina, won the nearest-to-the-pin title, while Bernadette Irungu took home the longest drive prize.

Golf Kenya President Phillip Ochola led the men’s category with a score of 41 points, edging out David Geita, who scored 40 points.

Daniel Kiragu triumphed in the boys' category, with Aidan Gachora finishing second.

The one-week Muthaiga Lady Captain’s Prize teed off last Monday and wrapped up on Saturday.

Shashwat and Shelby Shine at the Inaugural NCBA North Rift Junior Open

Shashwat Harish emerged as the overall boys' winner on Sunday during the inaugural NCBA North Rift Junior Open, held over three days at Nandi Bears Club.

Representing Muthaiga Golf Club, Harish shot one-under par in the first round, five-over par in the second round, and six-over par in the third round, totalling 226 points, 10-over par.

He attributed his victory to accurate ball placement.

“I have enjoyed playing at the Nandi Bears Club course, which is in pristine condition. I will always remember this course because I achieved my first-ever under-par round in a tournament during the first round,” said Harish.

He expressed gratitude to his parents, coaches, caddy, and playing partners for their support.

Shelby Bungei from Kitale Club emerged as the overall girls' winner with an aggregate score of 293 gross.

She played consistent rounds of 99, 97, and 97 over the three days.

Golf Kenya to Oversee All Golf Organizations in the Country

Golf Kenya President Philip Ochola has announced that several organizations managing golf in Kenya will now operate under a single umbrella body known as Golf Kenya.

The organizations set to merge include the Kenya Golf Union (KGU), Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU), Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK), Junior Golf Foundation (JGF), and Kenya Open Golf Limited. Golf Kenya was established under the Sports Act of 2013.

“We've been going through a transition period, working on a new constitution to unify all of us under one body—Golf Kenya, as mandated by the 2013 Sports Act,” Ochola said.

Speaking during the Muthaiga Lady Captain’s Prize over the weekend, Ochola confirmed that the constitution for Golf Kenya is now complete.

“We’ve called for a Special General Meeting (SGM) to officially adopt the unified structure. Moving forward, KGU, KLGU, PGK, JGF, and Kenya Open Golf Limited will operate as one entity,” he added.

Regina Gachora Retires as Muthaiga Golf Club Lady Captain

Regina Gachora's term as the Lady Captain of Muthaiga Golf Club concluded over the weekend, marking the end of her one-year tenure.

Regina, who also serves as the Junior Golf President, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to lead.

“I am so privileged and grateful to every one of the Muthaiga Golf Club members for entrusting me with this role over the past year. It has been an honour to serve as Lady Captain, and I look forward to seeing the incoming Lady Captain, Daphne Maina, take the reins," said Regina.

Daphne Maina officially takes over as the new Lady Captain.

Regina was elected as Lady Captain of the Golf Club in 2024.

She previously served the Club as the Lady Vice-Captain in 2023 and has also served the Club's Golf and Course Committee.

Josphat Rono Over the Moon After Clinching His First KAGC Title

Josphat Rono has finally made a name for himself in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series.

Since beginning his golfing journey in 2018, he had yet to claim a victory in the series—until now.

On Sunday, Rono etched his name into Kenya’s golfing history by winning the third edition of the 2024 NCBA Golf Park Open at the par-70 Golf Park Club, located at the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi.

The win marks his first-ever title in the KAGC series.

Rono, who recently represented Kenya in the 2024 All Africa Golf Team Championship (AAGTC) held at Bulawayo Golf Club in Zimbabwe, credited that experience to his success at the NCBA Golf Park Open.

“Playing against seasoned golfers in Zimbabwe helped me. My coach and I have been working on improving my swing, and I’m grateful that it all came together today," Rono told Golf Score Kenya.

Rono’s victory was highlighted by consistent play across all three rounds of the tournament.

He carded impressive scores of 68, 66, and 70, culminating in a total of 204, 6-under par.

“I’m so elated—this is my first-ever title in the KAGC since I started playing in 2018. I’ve often finished in the top 10, but this win means everything,” he said.

Coming in second was Rono’s clubmate, James Mwangi, who finished with a total score of 209, 1-under par.

Elvis Muigua of Kiambu Golf Club delivered a commendable performance to finish third.

Last year’s Golf Park Open champion, Sammy Mulama, tied for fourth place with Kenya team captain John Lejirma, both finishing with scores of 215, 5-over par.

The third edition of the NCBA Golf Park Open will tee off this Friday, November 8, at the prestigious par-70 Golf Park Golf Club, located at the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi.

Defending champion Sammy Mulama, competing on his home course is eager to retain his crown.

“I’ve been sharpening my skills and look forward to another successful year. The competition will be tough, but I’m ready to give it my all and defend my title,” said Mulama.

Third Edition of NCBA Golf Park Open Returns This Weekend

The third edition of the NCBA Golf Park Open will tee off this Friday, November 8, at the prestigious par-70 Golf Park Golf Club, located at the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi.

Originally scheduled for April this year, the tournament had to be postponed due to severe weather conditions, which led to its cancellation after the first round.

In a statement then, the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) explained that inclement weather and flooding on the course had forced them to call off the event.

Now, nearly seven months later, the tournament is back and has attracted a strong field of 78 players.

Defending champion Sammy Mulama, competing on his home course is eager to retain his crown.

Team Kenya Reflects, Rebuilds After AAGTC

Despite a tough 7th-place finish at the 2024 All Africa Golf Team Championship in Zimbabwe, Team Kenya, remains focused on growth.

Kenya’s team, comprising John Lejirma, Elvis Muigua, Josphat Rono, and junior player Krish Beiju, last week competed in the AAGTC at Zimbabwe’s historic 1895 Bulawayo Golf Club.

This comes just a month after Kenya clinched its third consecutive title at the Africa Region IV Golf Championship in Kigali, Rwanda.

However, the team faced difficulties in Zimbabwe, concluding the event in seventh place with a total score of +41 (905) across rounds of 228, 221, 231, and 225.

Speaking to Golf Score Kenya upon their return, Team Kenya Captain John Lejirma said they had hoped for a better outcome.

“Several of our top players had to withdraw due to unforeseen circumstances, impacting our lineup and preparations. We fielded the strongest team we could, but the last-minute changes made it challenging to perform at our highest level,” he said.

Notably absent from the Zimbabwe tournament were Kenya’s elite players Adel Balala and Michael Karanga, both of whom had contributed to the victory in Rwanda but were unable to participate in Zimbabwe due to personal reasons.

In Zimbabwe, South Africa emerged victorious with an impressive combined score of 843, finishing the tournament 21 under par.

Muthaiga Golf Club received a significant boost on Monday, with SBM Bank contributing Sh1.5 million in sponsorship for the annual Lady Captain’s Prize Golf Tournament.

The sponsorship includes Sh1 million in cash and Sh500,000 in kind, underscoring SBM Bank's commitment to supporting golf and strengthening its partnership with the club.

The week-long tournament kicked off on Monday with the Caddies Tournament, offering golf's unsung heroes a chance to compete.
In addition, caddies will receive financial literacy training courtesy of SBM.

On Tuesday, the tournament focuses on the ladies, who will enjoy both golf and a variety of fun activities, followed by an experiential session hosted by SBM at the end of the day.

Wednesday will feature the club’s traditional Club Nite.

Thursday brings the Seniors Tournament, where members aged over 60 will compete with peers, celebrating golf’s role in promoting health among seniors.

Sponsors and invited guests will play on Friday, leading up to Saturday’s main event, which will see the largest turnout of lady golfers.

NCBA JGF US Kids Spring Tour Champions Crowned

The NCBA Junior Golf Foundation US Kids Spring Local Tour wrapped up at Muthaiga Golf Club on Sunday.

This marked the end of an eight-tournament series that began on August 11.

Justin Ngeera took the Boys 13-14 title with 129.25 points.

He won in two events, Vet Lab on August 25 and Windsor on September 8, out of the eight tournaments he participated in.

Ashley Muyela dominated the Girls 11-12 category with 190 points.

She won at Limuru (August 11), Windsor Golf Hotel (October 27), and the Muthaiga Golf Club finale (November 3).

Yolanda Yu secured the Girls 13-14 championship with a final-round score of 76, bringing her total to 203 points.

Yu’s victories at Vet Lab (August 25), Windsor Golf Hotel (September 8), and the Muthaiga finale solidified her lead.

Jeff Kivi topped the Boys 12 division with 225 points.

RECAP: The Inaugural Shujaa Kavore Memorial Parent and Child Golf Tournament The first edition of the Shujaa Kavore Memorial Parent and Child Golf Tournament was held on Sunday, October 20, at Muthaiga Golf Club. This special event honoured the memory of Shujaa Kariuki Kavore, who holds the distinction of being the youngest golfer to achieve a hole-in-one at the club. In addition to celebrating Shujaa’s legacy, the tournament also aimed to raise awareness about chronic childhood diseases. Lejirma triumphed over John Kamais of Nakuru Golf Club in a thrilling playoff after both players completed the regulation 54 holes tied with a score of 220 (+4). The decisive moment came on the par-5 18th hole, where Lejirma displayed nerves of steel by sinking a birdie in the playoff. Kamais, unable to match Lejirma's birdie, settled for a par, securing second place. This victory marks Lejirma’s fifth title in the 2024 Kenya Amateur Golf Champion.
