Coconut in Lamu Siyu village is now a rare and expensive commodity due to the effects of climate change. The farmers of this plant are facing a lot of difficulties and there are no nurseries available for coconut seed. This has led to the scarcity of coconut and its price has gone up to Ksh 100 in Lamu and Ksh 70 in Siyu village.

The farmers  urge the government to come forward and speed up the process of bringing in seedlings for coconut. This will help us salvage this crop that is now becoming increasingly rare.

Let’s work together to ensure that we protect our environment and preserve our natural resources for future generations. 🥥🌴

Kuwait Government Joins hands with Lamu County Government In Donating To Boni Communities

More than two hundred Boni based communities are expected to receive donations from lamu county government in conjuction with the Government of Kuwait.

Lamu County Governor Fahim Twaha has received Kuwait ambassador to Kenya, Rashed Qusoi, ealier today at Shella .Mr Rashed is on a several days visitation to Lamu on a mission to donate his country’s aid to Kiangwi, Basuba and Mararani residents.

This comes several weeks after residents of Basuba ward were forced to migrate to Kiangwi,a neibouring village due to water and food challenges.

Lamu County Governor Fahim Twaha annaouncd a plan by Lamu County Government to stop construction of a governor’s residential but re- direct construction funds to a preliminary plan of donate food to residents across the county to counter Post Covid -19 and drought challenges.

Lamu County is among drought stricken counties across the country, hundreds of acres of Lamu County residents crops dried at immature stages and more than thirty thousand livestock lost thus the food shortage challenges experienced.

“Despite the rain season starting, most residents are still withoutt enough food to sustain them until crops mature, as a county we have concluded to channel funds aimed at construction of governor’s residential to fund food donation to all Lamu Cointy residents.

Red Cross has been the latest organization to donate to Boni area few weeks where residents received blankets, nets and Taperlinks along with other basic needs after a report of displaced residents from Basuba to Kiangwi were forced to spend nights after houses rendered to maximum capacities.

Lamu county governor Fahim Twaha has singled out that most maternal mortality cases are caused by logistical issues.

Speaking today at King Fahad hospital in Lamu during boat ambulance launching, Twaha says ferrying patients from neighboring Islands has been a challenge.

“Lives have been lost on the sea over the years due to recurring water transport challenge around Lamu Island and other Islands. The county government has and still working to improve patient services between King Fahad County Hospital and other hospitals around the county,” Twaha said.

Water tides timing is a major challenge in around Lamu East and Lamu West constituencies.

Twaha has called out private sectors to come out and help aid Lamu County to curb water transport challenges.

Lamu county government has been awarded water ambulance worth ninepoint five millions by Safaricom Foundation in a step to improve health services between Kingfahd County hospital and other Islands in the county.

Initially Lamu County had two boats a number that Twaha has mentioned not to be enough to serve all islands to the required capacity.

Safaricom Foundation chairperson Joseph Ogutu says Statistically, Lamu has high infant and maternal mortality above national average a state that has pushed Safaricom Foundation to partner with Lamu County Government in attempt to bring figues down.

“The water ambulance has a capacity of using a maximum of two beds and patients will receive first aid as they are ferried. This will help save lives especially maternal lives who normally lose their children or their own lives due to delayed transport,” Ogutu said.

Safaricom Founndation has been partnering with Lamu County Government in improving health services in projects such as tele-medicine, maternal shelters building and school construction across Lamu County.
