Nganoine Dam Set to Transform Agriculture as Construction Kicks Off
Nganoine villages are on the brink of a major agricultural transformation following the successful securing of Nganoine Dam, also known as Munyua Igiri, through sustained lobbying with the National Irrigation Authority. The milestone project, alongside the Gathuo Dam in Pesi, marks a significant boost for irrigation and food production in the area.
Construction is now officially ready to begin. The contractor has fully mobilized, with all equipment on site, clearing the way for works to commence immediately. Once completed, the dam is expected to unlock year-round farming for local households, reducing reliance on rain-fed agriculture and significantly improving food security and incomes.
Covering approximately four acres, Nganoine Dam will include a reticulation pipeline designed to supply water to lower Nganoine, extending its benefits to more families and farms. Credit goes to Salama Ward MCA Mugambi Gatati , whose relentless advocacy and engagement with the National Irrigation Authority played a central role in turning this long-awaited project into reality. For Nganoine, the dam is more than infrastructure, it is a catalyst for growth, resilience, and shared prosperity.
