YOU KNOW GIKUYU CULTURE? SO WHAT?
Today I met some young men and we began talking about the late Prof Ngugi Njoroge, who gave our Subukia village a name in a great way, and the issue of culture came up.
"His mastery of culture was seamless." One friend said, I couldn't agree more. I mean, his craft of explaining thematic political issues, policies and governance matters in Kikuyu was absolutely impeccable.
However, as the discussion went on, I discovered something, some people will think of themselves more manly because they can say 'Thaai' and 'mburi ya miruru' Huh๐ Imagine that!
I do not have anything that I would put on the table that I have gained from my "Kikuyu Culture." If anything, am only worried when I watch some TV programmes telling me I didn't give a goat to my uncle 'kuhoya irua' and so I will die ๐๐ Riswaaaaaa!
Whereas culture is good, why should it be a measure of manliness and greatness, while itself has nothing to offer ๐ซด
Of course Njitagwo Kimani wa Mwangi, Munjiru wa Mbari ya Muthemba! But even that hasn't helped at all!
RIP Prof, we used to admire your matunda pale Kagumo๐ we didn't steal ๐and if we did, forgive us๐
Subukia has lost, a wise, devot communicator.
But for Culture ๐ซ NDINGIHOTA ๐
