Tough political times are laying siege against Rongai MP Hon Paul Chebor Mamba.

In a span of one month of political events in quick succession, Mamba is clearly getting stuck in deep waters atypical of his moniker. He is visibly between a rock and a hard surface.

In the last month, his cousin - outgoing MSMEs CS Simon Chelugui - was fired by the President from the Cabinet. Chelugui was the last man standing as the MP's god-father in politics after he had contemptuously turned his back against those who offered him massive political and financial support from 2017 up to realising victory in 2022.

Today, his Kuresoi North counterpart Hon Alfred Mutai has left their defiant axis and joined governor Susan Kihika's political camp deflating the formerly four rebel MPs' anti-Kihika agenda.

Hold on, that's not all, Mamba is being tightly cornered by the EACC who are probing him over forgery of academic certificates. The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has denounced the transcripts and Diploma certificate that the MP used to fraudulently get enrolled at the Mount Kenya University. This is a straight handball in his own side's penalty box that robs him of the remainder of his reputation.

The MP is also facing integrity issues of grave concerns under investigation for initiating ghost and illegal NG-CDF projects worth millions of taxpayers' money that he wants the NG-CDF committee to hurriedly approve for payment against the law. This is about to go down in no time.

In his backyard, locals are also said to be meeting very soon to denounce their political support of the MP for allegedly recruiting and sponsoring a gang that's reincarnate of the formerly infamous 'Blue Boys' that terrorizes and harms whoever questions his administration's development progress.

Mamba is in a catch-22; he has clearly met his waterloo sooner that projected, instantly cutting short his pride and chest-thumping that the transient trappings of little power offered him. Will the embattled Rongai MP survive the isolation by his displeased constituents and political allies? The answer is apparent - he rode on several people's back only to kick them away upon getting into power.

In as much as power corrupts, power balance should always be at play. It only remains to be seen in the coming days how Mheshimiwa Mamba 🐊will wade out of the murky waters with maimed limbs and a bruised tail.
