President Ruto Highlights Climate Change Opportunities During US Visit

President William Ruto stated that it is no longer fashionable to view climate change merely as a problem; instead, it should be seen as an opportunity.

He emphasised the need to invest in this opportunity to transform Africa from its potential into a realm of investment.

Today, 23 May 2024, marks the climax of President Ruto’s State Visit to the United States, with bilateral talks scheduled with President Joe Biden at the White House in an elaborate ceremony.

Since his arrival three days ago, President Ruto has had a busy schedule, attending ten out of twenty planned events.

The events at the White House, home to American presidents since 1800, are the most significant for Kenya during this visit. The closed-door talks will be followed by a press conference where both leaders will detail the tangible benefits for Kenya from these bilateral discussions.

Today’s bilateral engagements build on the Strategic Partnership signed in 2018 by Ruto’s predecessor, President Uhuru Kenyatta, and the Bilateral Strategic Dialogue launched in 2019.

This dialogue identified five core areas of mutual interest: Economic Prosperity, Democracy and Civilian Security, Defence, Public Health, and Multilateral and Regional Issues.

While progress has been made in strengthening Kenya-US relations, the promise of a Free Trade Agreement and a Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership remains unfulfilled.

Kenyans are eagerly awaiting news from the White House to see if progress will be made on these critical issues.

Liverpool have agreed a British-record transfer fee with Brighton for midfielder Moises Caicedo 🚨

The fee is understood to be worth £110m, with Caicedo set to travel to Liverpool on Friday for a medical. Brighton set a deadline for midnight on Thursday for bids to come in - and provided their valuation was met, they would go with the highest bidder. Liverpool's offer of £110m was not matched.

It is understood Chelsea were prepared to go to £100m, while Bayern Munich indicated they would pay £90m.

Polish Girls Fear Ukrainians Will Steal Husbands - study

Among young girls in Poland, support for Ukrainian refugees is declining due to fears that Ukrainian women will take their husbands away from them, according to a study by Warsaw University, reports Gazeta Wyborcza.

The newspaper writes that the Polish internet is teeming with ads from local men looking for Ukrainian women, with their priorities "that she cooks food on time, and that she is selfless and grateful every day, but most importantly is beautiful,."

The survey showed that it is Polish women under 29 with secondary or post-secondary education who feel the greatest dislike for Ukrainian refugees due to fear of competition in the labor market and for men.
