In many communities, especially here in Kenya, women often bear the brunt of caregiving responsibilities. When a family loses a loved one, the immediate question is, “Who is the next woman to take care of the children?”
It’s heartbreaking to see how caregiving is often passed on, sometimes to grandmothers, particularly when a man loses his wife and moves on. These women—many of whom are not economically empowered—are left shouldering immense burdens. This lack of support often translates into a ripple effect: poor health, limited education for the children, and a cycle of struggle that’s hard to break.
The video below by The White Ribbon Alliance captures this reality perfectly. It’s a powerful reminder of why empowering women is critical—not just for their own well-being, but for the future of entire families and communities.
