📣 📣 Meet James Wakibia from Nairobi County – Nominee 1 of 6 of the Human Rights Defender of the Year Award Category.


James is a human rights defender based in Nakuru who uses online media to highlight human violations in his community.

His activism began when he was at school and he witnessed littering and authorities doing nothing about it thus violating the people’s fundamental human rights to a healthy environment.

Since then, he knew that something needed to be done to raise awareness and bring about change.

Important to note that James has a terrific ability to draw from his own experience and observation to develop thoughtful opinions on a variety of environmental issues.

The Human Rights Defenders Awards ( ) recognize and honor individuals that have shown exceptional commitment and courage in defending and promoting human rights in Kenya.

This year's awards will be happening on 8th of December. Follow Defenders Coalition for more details.

The awards serve to raise awareness about human rights issues, inspire others to join the cause, and publicly acknowledge the often challenging work carried out by human rights defenders around the world.

KARA today hosted Kamilla Heden Henningsen at the secretariat offices in Nairobi, Kenya. We discussed our continued partnership with The Royal Danish Embassy and the Danish Environmental protection Agency on the Model Estate Waste Management Pilot Project.
