A Transformed Person

Have you ever felt like you needed to have a do-over? If so, you’re in good company. Peter did as well.

Peter was one of Jesus’ twelve disciples, invited by Jesus Himself to leave his life as a fisherman and join Him during His ministry on earth. On the night that Jesus was betrayed, Peter followed Him to the sham trial. The people in the area were openly and aggressively hostile to Jesus. Imagine what that must have felt like, to be surrounded by people who may choose to treat Peter the way they were treating Jesus at that very moment.

In Matthew 26 and Luke 22, we see that Peter chose to keep a low profile. He wanted to go unnoticed by the angry mob. That didn’t work for long, though—three different people recognized him as a follower of Jesus and asked him about it. Each of the three times, Peter denied ever knowing Jesus.

If we skip ahead in Scripture, though, we find Peter doing the exact opposite. In Acts 2, Peter is standing in front of a big crowd, filled with people who may persecute him. Rather than denying knowing Jesus, he proclaims the secret to life: repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and receive the Holy Spirit.

This is risky. What will people think? What if they turn on him the way that they did Jesus? Yet, he was bold anyway. He was a transformed person compared to who he had been earlier in the story.

How did Peter transform? He was restored by Jesus. He also received the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Two major things happened between these passages of scripture: Jesus visited Peter, and with grace, restored him. Secondly, the Holy Spirit came down from heaven for the followers of Jesus. With the Holy Spirit came power, empowering the believers to live bold, transformed lives (Acts 2).

Many of us face moments like this: moments where the right answer is boldness for Jesus, but the easy answer is to keep our heads down. What will people think? What will they do?

Here’s some great news: we’re never alone. We don’t have to be bold on our own. The Holy Spirit is with us every day, giving us the power to be bold and transformed. We can walk out our newness each day with His help.

You can start today. Boldness is now. The Holy Spirit is ready to walk with you.

Who Are You Living For?

Saul had it all. He knew the right people, had the right job, and came from the right place. Only one problem—He was a violent opponent to the followers of Jesus. He’d specifically seek them out to imprison or kill them.

One day, Saul was traveling to the city of Damascus to arrest followers of Jesus and bring them to Jerusalem. Suddenly, a bright light appeared before Saul. Falling to the ground, he heard Jesus ask, “Why do you persecute me?” After this encounter, Saul was blind for three days. God instructed Ananias to restore Saul’s sight.

Saul’s encounter with Jesus began a radical transformation in His life. No longer was he interested in making life difficult for ‌followers of Jesus, but he was eager to join them! Eventually, Saul became known as the Apostle Paul—who traveled great distances to share the Gospel. He also wrote a large portion of the New Testament.

Paul’s new life was very different from the one he left behind. Instead of holding an important religious position, he was a wandering street preacher. Instead of being highly regarded by important people, he was often falsely accused and sent to prison.

God’s transforming power took a strong opponent to Jesus and made him a strong advocate for the Gospel! Paul no longer cared about gaining the approval of important people or being highly regarded. In fact, he wrote, “I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done” (Philippians 3:7 NLT).

Do you ever feel like you struggle to change? Today, remember that the same God who transformed Saul into Paul is alive and active! And, He wants to help you. Bring the areas where you’re struggling to change before Him in prayer—and watch God work!

Transformation

Do you want to be new?

All around the world, humans long for change. We long to throw off old habits and ways of thinking if they aren’t serving us anymore. Thousands of self-help books, podcasts, articles, all kinds of media exist for this very reason. We want to change! And yet, it can feel impossible! Paul, one of Jesus’ disciples, shares this powerful truth in Romans 12:2 (NIV):

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Transformed by the renewing of our minds. What does this mean?

Transformation is a massive change. It’s thorough. Complete. A total difference. Like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly, transformation brings an end to the old and a beginning to the new.

Paul is showing us that transformation isn’t work we do from the outside in. Transformation happens from the inside out. It begins with our mind. And for our minds to change, we need Truth to grab hold of.

God’s Word is this Truth.

“All Scripture is breathed out by God…”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12 NIV

“... Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
Matthew 4:4 NIV

God’s Word guides us when we are lost, strengthens us when we are weary, challenges us when we are compromising, and encourages us when we are overwhelmed. God’s Word changes everything.

And this very moment, you hold God’s Word in your hand. Transformation is in your grasp. Read the Bible closely, dig into its verses, wrestle with its teachings, and treasure what you discover about the love and grace of God.

The best place to bring your desire for newness is to God and His Word. God’s Word renews our minds. Transformation inside-out begins here.

Title: Embracing the New Thing

"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."
— Isaiah 43:18-19

In our journey of faith, it is easy to hold on to the past—whether triumphs that once defined us or wounds that still linger. We often replay old memories, relive failures, or cling to comforts long gone. But through the prophet Isaiah, God calls us to shift our focus: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.” This is not an invitation to ignore history but rather a challenge to let go of what binds us to yesterday so we can step into God’s plans for today.

When God says, “I am doing a new thing,” it’s a declaration of His ongoing work in our lives. Like streams in the wasteland and pathways in the wilderness, His power transforms the impossible into the miraculous. Where we see dead ends, He creates new beginnings. Where we feel barren, He provides fresh growth.

Paul echoes this truth in Philippians 3:13-14: “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Dwelling on the past can hinder our ability to embrace God’s unfolding purpose. Instead, we are encouraged to press forward, fixing our eyes on Christ and the promise of what lies ahead.

Perhaps you feel stuck in the wilderness—lost, weary, or unsure of what’s next. Or maybe life feels like a dry wasteland, devoid of hope or renewal. God’s promise is for you: He is making a way. Even when you cannot see it, He is working behind the scenes, orchestrating His perfect plan.

Remember, God specializes in new beginnings. Through Jesus, He gave us the ultimate "new thing"—a restored relationship with Him. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us, “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

Today, let us open our hearts to the new thing God wants to do. Release the grip on past pains, achievements, or regrets. Trust that He is making a way in your wilderness and streams in your dry places. His mercies are new every morning, and His plans for you are good. Step forward in faith, for the God of new beginnings is leading the way.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being the God of new things. Help me to release the past and trust You with my future. Open my eyes to perceive Your work in my life and give me the faith to follow wherever You lead. Refresh me with Your living water and guide me through the wilderness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Title: Made New in Christ

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)

In Christ, transformation is not just a possibility—it is a promise. The Apostle Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 5:17 remind us of the radical change that takes place when we surrender our lives to Jesus. We are not merely refurbished or improved versions of ourselves; we are completely new creations. The old—our sinful nature, shame, and brokenness—has been put to death, and we are given a fresh start.

This transformation begins with a divine exchange. Isaiah 61:3 speaks of God giving us "a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair." It is not by our striving but by God’s grace that we are renewed. When we come to Jesus, our past mistakes no longer define us. His love redefines who we are.

Consider the story of Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1-10. A despised tax collector, Zacchaeus encountered Jesus and was forever changed. His encounter with Christ led him to restitution and repentance—a true sign of his transformation. Similarly, our lives bear the fruit of change when we abide in Christ.

Yet, being made new is not a one-time event; it’s a daily journey. Paul encourages us in Romans 12:2 to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” This renewal happens as we spend time in God’s Word, seek His presence in prayer, and walk in obedience to His Spirit.

As you reflect on your identity in Christ, ask yourself: What “old” things do I need to let go of? Are there areas in my life where I’m still holding on to shame or fear? Remember, Jesus has already paid the price for your freedom. You are not who you were—you are a new creation. Walk boldly in this truth, allowing His light to shine through your life.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for making me a new creation in Christ. Help me to let go of my old ways and fully embrace the new life You have given me. Transform my mind and heart daily, so I may reflect Your love and grace to those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection Questions:

1. What does being a “new creation” mean for your everyday life?

2. How can you intentionally renew your mind in Christ today?

The Source of All

Look around…

Everything’s been masterfully designed: The skies, the trees, the mountains, the oceans. The animals, the people, the seen, and the unseen.

You can breathe because you've been given lungs, oxygen, and an environment that sustains life. You can move because you've been given muscles, tendons, and a brain that instructs your body. You can think, dream, plan, design, create, build—because you've been given the desire, ability, and some raw materials.

So if you want to live a life that matters, a life that leaves an eternal legacy, you must stay connected to the source of life. Jesus said it like this, using an illustration that was familiar to His listeners:

“Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”
‭‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭4‬-‭5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

When Jesus says, “I am the vine,” He’s making a statement. He’s saying that He is the source—that anything that’s made is because of His life-giving power.

So if you long for real truth, for genuine wisdom, or to make a lasting difference in this world, stick close to God—because anything worth being or doing starts with Him.

Look Up

It’s so normal to spend our time, energy, and attention focusing on the here and now. We’re busy, after all. Sometimes we're preoccupied. And when we stop to really think about it, it’s difficult to perceive something beyond our five senses.

But in his letter to the Colossians, Paul encourages his fellow believers to look up:

“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Think about that. The realities of heaven. As you think about Paul’s words, here are four things to consider:

1. Heaven isn’t some vague, dream-like state. It’s a real place, with real people, where God is the true King.

2. There will come a day when we will all meet God face to face. Everything we’ve hoped for will finally be revealed.

3. Our troubles and our heartbreaks (and even death itself) are temporary! Scripture tells us that a time is coming when God will do away with pain and death and sickness and suffering—forever.

4. God is still on His throne, with Jesus beside Him in the place of honor. No matter how crazy, senseless, or heartbreaking the world can seem, we can have confidence knowing that nothing is outside of God’s sovereign plan.

So when you’re tempted to look around at others or look inward at yourself, look up instead. Heaven is wherever God is, and that’s the truest reality of all.

Becoming Like Christ

2 Timothy 2:15 NIV says, "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."

As Christians, we are invited every day to become more like Christ. We want to have the same mind and attitude that He had, to become more like Him every day. In a world that’s constantly living in opposition to God’s design, we want to do our best to present ourselves to God as approved— workers who have no need to be ashamed.

Maybe you haven’t always lived life with Christ. Maybe there are things in your past you’re ashamed of. That’s okay. You're not alone.

In this letter, Paul tells Timothy not to be ashamed of his past, but instead to let his past be a testament to how Jesus has changed his life. When we receive Jesus, we are made new and given a fresh start. Your past is part of your story, a way that you can show others how Jesus changed your life.

The best way that we can continue to be transformed by Jesus is to continually seek His truth in Scripture. As we engage with Scripture and the Holy Spirit, our minds and hearts are changed to be more like Christ.

How can you be more like Christ today? Think of a few small steps you can take to begin to shift your thinking and actions towards the mission of God or the character of Christ. Ask God for His help as you seek to follow Him daily.

The Place to Start

There are so many places that we can go to learn about something new and grow in knowledge. Books are full of free access to learn anything you can dream up. The internet is packed full of content and ways to learn about any subject imaginable.

While those are great places to start when building knowledge, Scripture tells us that the beginning of all knowledge is fear of God. This means that while we can learn things from anyone, the beginning of true knowledge begins with God.

What does it mean to fear God? One thing it means is that we should live our lives in awe of Him. We do this first by recognizing who He is. He is the creator and source of all things. He is all-powerful and all-knowledgeable. God’s Word says He holds the power of life and death in His hands. These are certainly attributes that should cause us to be in awe of God.

Scripture also tells us that God is loving, gracious, and merciful. Even though we, His own creation, previously abandoned Him and rebelled against Him, God graciously gave us access back to Himself through His Son, Jesus. The God who created the universe loves each and every one of us.

Knowing God rightly and being in awe of who He is and what He has done is the beginning of all knowledge.

We would be foolish to turn away from such a powerful and gracious God. While we can learn a lot about many different things through a book or the internet, the most essential and important knowledge begins with God, His Word, and how we view Him.

Spend some time with God in prayer, thanking Him for who He is and what He’s done for you. Begin a habit of reading Scripture regularly so that you can come to know Him more and more.

Honoring the Savior

While Israel was waiting for a Savior, far away to the east, the wise men studied stars and ancient texts. Translated in Scripture as “wise men” or “magi,” these men, likely from Babylon or Persia, came to find Jesus. Why? Because they had seen a star. They had seen a sign in the heavens that a King had been born.

So they set off. In what must have been a long and demanding journey, they sought Jesus out. They had to worship the one who the signs pointed to. They had to see Him for themselves.

“On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.”
Matthew 2:10 NIV

What a beautiful illustration of devotion and honor. Israel knew to be watching for a coming Savior, but these men from the East did not. Yet they came to find the one whom the signs pointed to. And when they saw Him, they recognized Him immediately. Then they bowed down and worshiped.

Their story reminds us a simple fact that we often forget: it’s always worth it to seek Jesus. The good news of the Christ is for everyone.

And when they finally met Jesus, the wise men’s response was to worship and give gifts. This act of worship wasn’t just a formality, either. Each of those gifts had unique meaning and purpose, from an expression of profound reverence and recognition of Jesus' kingship (gold), His divinity (frankincense), and His eventual suffering and death (myrrh). These gifts were not only valuable but deeply symbolic, highlighting their understanding of who Jesus was and would become.

The wise men worshiped Jesus because He was worthy. He still is. How will you worship Him today?

Receiving Adoption

Galatians 4:4-5 says, “But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.”

“But when the set time had fully come…”

Meticulously crafted and precisely prepared for, God’s plan was carried out to the final detail. When the moment came for the Messiah to be born, it wasn’t a surprise or an accident. It was right on time. It was one holy moment where all of creation could at last exhale, “Finally.”

“God sent his Son, born of a woman…”

The Son of God left heaven to be born. What could be a more humble act of sacrifice? He took on human form and lived His life here on earth.

“Born under the law, to redeem those under the law…”

God's law includes standards that men and women could never have lived up to on their own. Jesus, born under the law, lived a life no one else ever had—a perfect one. And in living a perfect life, He not only fulfilled the requirements of the law, He bore our burden of righteousness and gave it to us freely. He redeemed us. From under the law to being in Christ, we know what redemption is because the one perfect person came to redeem us.

“... that we might receive adoption to sonship…”

Read that last part again: ”that we might receive adoption to sonship.” That we might become the family of God. We “receive” because we are no longer earning. We receive “adoption” because He is bringing us in. We have “sonship” because we are His own. But take one more look at that third word: “Might."

This adoption isn’t forced. It isn’t required, it isn’t demanded, and it isn’t a result of coercion or pressure. It’s an invitation. It’s a choice. It’s not conditional based on who you are, where you’re from, or the things you’ve done. It’s simply a chance to receive. Just receive.

Are you ready to be adopted into the family of God? Are you ready to receive the righteousness Jesus gave everything for you to have? It’s yours to receive. You don’t have to wait a minute longer. Your adoption is three words away:

“Jesus, I believe.”
