In her keynote, Dr. Ngina challenged outdated notions of leadership tied to age, privilege, or position, instead calling for a new paradigm where competence, integrity, and courage define who leads. She reminded delegates and awardees that youth must not only be invited to the policy table as tokens of representation but should be empowered to shape, influence, and implement national and continental agendas.

It’s time to break free from the outdated belief that leadership is the preserve of the old, the privileged, or the powerful. In today’s Africa, true leadership must be anchored in competence, integrity, and courage. Dr. Purity Ngina, MBS, CEO, National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC), Key...

Prof. Ngugi’s contributions to literature and cultural discourse are immeasurable. He was a staunch advocate for the preservation and promotion of African languages, arguing that true liberation could only be achieved when Africans embraced their linguistic heritage. His works have been translated into over 30 languages, and he received numerous accolades, including multiple honorary doctorates and international literary awards.

On May 28, 2025, the world bid farewell to one of Africa’s most profound literary voices, Prof. Ngugi wa Thiong’o, who passed away at the age of 87 in Buford, Georgia, USA. The news did not mark the end of an era, but a seismic shakeup. It was a wake-up call. A passing of a […]

The government, in collaboration with all education stakeholders, must prioritize the adoption and implementation of KEMIS. This includes allocating resources, offering user training, and ensuring the system is accessible across urban and rural regions alike. By embracing KEMIS, Kenya takes a bold step toward transforming its education sector into a modern, data-driven engine of national development.

In 2018, Kenya took a bold step toward digitizing education data management by launching the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS). The system was introduced to streamline the collection, analysis, and dissemination of education data. While NEMIS has played a significant role in c...

Children of the Earth (COE) was born from the vision of Dr. Nina Meyerhof, an international leader and spiritual educator whose life’s work has been to empower young people to become conscious agents of change. Dr. Meyerhof believes that peace begins within the heart of each child, and from there flows outward—to communities, to nations, and to the world. Her legacy stretches from Nepal to Guatemala, and now, it beats in the dusty paths and humble homes of Togo’s Aviohonou, Gracias, Wonuga, Vogan, Adamavo, and Amouzoukope.

The boy sat quietly on the dusty doorstep of his family’s mud-walled home in Aviohonou, a village cradled by the sun-baked earth of Togo’s Maritime Region. His name was Koffi. At ten, he was small for his age, his frame thin from years of hunger, his eyes wide with longing. In his hands he held ...

Kenya’s school system faces persistent challenges, including a high student-to-teacher ratio, especially in rural and marginalized areas. AI offers a scalable solution to bridge this gap by supplementing the role of teachers with intelligent systems that offer real-time feedback and personalized learning experiences.

Tribute from SMEGAfrica & AFCoL In Honour of Yerome Emmanuel Kunde Yekeke 🕯️🕯️

It is with deep sorrow and profound respect that Scholar Media Group Africa (SMEGAfrica) and the Africa Chamber of Leaders (AFCoL) join the people of Cameroon and the entire African continent in mourning the passing of Yerome Emmanuel Kunde Yekeke, aged 68 — the revered Captain of the Indomitable Lions during their legendary 1990 FIFA World Cup campaign in Italy. Captain Kunde Yekeke was more than a footballer; he was a symbol of African excellence, courage, and resilience. Under his leadership, the Indomitable Lions did not merely compete, they made history. The 1990 Cameroon squad, with iconic names like Roger Milla, Cyrille Makanaky, and Thomas N'Kono, took the global stage by storm, making it to the quarterfinals — a feat never before achieved by an African team. Their tactical finesse, athletic brilliance, and raw passion left giants like Diego Maradona awestruck and gave Africa an enduring sense of pride and identity. This moment in history was not just a triumph in football, it was a powerful assertion of Africa’s potential. The team, and especially Captain Kunde Yekeke, became a beacon of hope for generations of young African athletes who saw in them the possibility of greatness on the world stage. Their legacy is immortalized not only in record books but also in music and memory such as Pepe Kallé’s iconic hit, "Roger Milla," which celebrated this golden generation of African sport.
At Scholar Media Africa, we strive to tell Africa’s most inspiring stories, and Kunde Yekeke’s journey is among the most powerful, a testament to leadership, tenacity, and collective spirit. At AFCoL, we recognise such individuals as trailblazers who, through talent and purpose, helped redefine global perceptions of Africa and Africans. Kunde Yekeke's leadership stands as an example for all leaders — in sports, governance, academia, and beyond. As we celebrate his life, we commit to ensuring that his legacy lives on in our publications, leadership forums, and mentorship programs. We call on football federations, educational institutions, and continental bodies to document and teach the stories of such African heroes to inspire future generations. To the people of Cameroon, to the family and friends of Captain Yerome Emmanuel Kunde Yekeke, and to all who were touched by his life and legacy, we extend our heartfelt condolences. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire Africa’s onward march toward greatness.
Rest in Power, Captain. You will never be forgotten.

Signed,
Mr. Elijah Nyaanga Scholarman Snr.
Founder & CEO, Scholar Media Group Africa (SMEGAfrica)
Convener, Africa Chamber of Leaders (AFCoL) Nairobi, Kenya.

Africans—within and beyond the Catholic fold are too often treated as an afterthought. Our experiences, our theologies, our voices are relegated to the periphery. Just last Sunday, I felt this exclusion firsthand, as a family visibly avoided sitting near us in church. It was a painful reminder of the subtle but persistent “othering” that contradicts the essence of the Eucharist: the common bread we are all invited to break.

The panorama from Saint Peter’s Square on the day of the new Pope’s announcement offered a familiar tableau: a sea of faces, predominantly white. Yet this image belies a profound demographic reality within the Catholic Church. While the West grapples with aging congregations and declining attend...

Kenya’s job market is struggling to absorb the rising number of university graduates. According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), the national unemployment rate is 12.7%, but youth aged 15–34 face a much higher rate of 67%. In 2023, the economy created 848,200 new jobs, yet 85% of these (720,900) were in the informal sector—mainly in retail, wholesale, hotels, and restaurants—while only 122,800 were in the formal sector.

Drawing on comparative insights from South Africa, this article proposes a “contextual proportionality” approach that would honor Kenya’s unique historical and cultural context while maintaining rigorous scrutiny of limitations. This approach would require courts to recognize expression’s central role in Kenya’s democratic transformation while acknowledging legitimate countervailing interests, particularly in a diverse society with painful histories of hate speech and incitement.

Kenya’s relationship with freedom of expression begins with colonial silencing. The British colonial administration (1895-1963) implemented systematic legal mechanisms to curtail indigenous voices, particularly those advocating for self-determination. The 1930 Penal Code introduced provisions crim...
