Deng Majok was recognized one of the greatest chief in Sudan because of his unique leadership style. More than 50 years after his death, many people are still feeling his absence and thinking about how life would be different if he were still around. This book is a reflection of his life as a brother, friend, father, and largely as a leader. It has information about his involvement in the community as an administrator, peacemaker, advocate of justice, and an initiator and enabler of change. There is a collection of his extraordinary achievements in different sectors and the factors that drove him to such levels and can still be useful to leaders today.
There are confessions from people - Ngok Dinka tribal elders, community members, government officials, British colonial officers, and others- who interacted with him in different ways and benefitted in different capacities from his leadership. The book also contains the heartbreaking consequences following his untimely death and some lessons that we can derive from his achievements for a better future.

About the author
Francis Mading Deng is currently Roving Ambassador as well as Deputy Rapporteur of South Sudan National Dialogue and Co-Chair of the Governance Committee of the Revitalized Joint Evaluation and Monitoring Committee, R-JEMC, of the Revitalized Peace Agreement. He formerly held the positions of Sudan’s Ambassador to the Nordic countries, Canada and the United States; Sudan’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; the first Permanent Representative of South Sudan to the United Nations; Human Rights Officer in the U.N. Secretariat; Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on Internally Displaced Persons; and Special Advisor of the Secretary General for the Prevention of Genocide. He holds an Ll.B (honors) from Khartoum University, and Ll.M and J.S.D. from Yale University. He has authored or edited over forty scholarly books on a wide variety of subjects and two novels on the crisis of identity in the Sudan. Dr. Deng has held senior positions in leading American Universities and think tanks.
