A Malindi-bound Tahmeed bus with 48 passengers burst into flames and burnt to ashes shortly after all those on board were evacuated Sunday morning.

Police and the bus management said the incident happened on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, a few kilometers from Voi town.

Although the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the police have confirmed that all passengers were safely evacuated before the bus was engulfed in flames.

The bus management ensured the safe evacuation of all 48 passengers. The incident occurred around 4 am on Sunday as the bus was en route from Kitale to Malindi, with the fire breaking out near the Voi area.

President William Ruto has expressed his condolences on the passing of Namibia President Hage Geingob.

In a statement on Sunday, Ruto eulogised Geingob as a dedicated leader who was focused on serving his people.

"I extend my deepest condolences and sympathy to the family and the people of Namibia following the death of President Hage Geingob," he said.

The Head of State further described the late President as a believer of a unified Africa, who strongly promoted the continent’s voice and visibility in the global arena
