No More Google Maps

Google has been forced to remove its Maps functionality from its search results in the European Union (EU) areas.

The EU’s decision to enforce these changes stems from concerns about unfair competition.

The EU inteiduced the Digital Markets Act (DMA) regulation to challenge the dominance of major tech companies and level the playing field.

The aim was to give users more choice and control over the digital services they rely on.

Google, the worlds biggest search engine, has integrated some of its services like Maps, Calendar, and Docs within its search results making sure users dont leave its platform.

Hiwever, this has been criticized as stifling competition.

Users in the EU now can see the Maps tab which used to appear alongside other tabs such as Images, News, Videos etc. They have to do further navigation to access the Maps, making it a little more frustrating and they will need time to adjust.

In the USA, Google has been facing another hurdle with pressure from regulators to make Chrome a separate company.

But unlike that one, which is built in central China, the new one will be built in an environmentally-sensitive Himalayan zone in Tibet, very close to the border with India.
New Delhi responded today, saying India will "protect its interests".
