After a hugely successful offer earlier in the year, Kenya’s leading video entertainment provider, DStv and Kenya’s premier telecommunications provider, Telkom, have renewed their partnership to offer Kenyans value on both entertainment and Internet at an affordable cost.

Beginning October 2017, all customers purchasing a full kit DStv HD decoder, at a cost of KSh 6,999 will get a free MiFi router pre-loaded with 30 GB Data from Telkom and one month viewing on the DStv Compact package in a special promotional offer dubbed DStv Na Net.

“This MiFi router, a high speed plug and play mobile data device supports up to 15 users. The free 30 GB worth of data gives them the opportunity to experience our data offering as they make an informed long-term choice of Internet service provider based on their experience with our network,” says Mareuse.

Customers can purchase the DStv HD decoder bundled with the Mifi router at all Multichoice Service Centres at T-Mall, Sarit Centre and Greenspan Malls in Nairobi as well as all leading retail and dealer outlets countrywide.

Telkom customers can also subscribe to a series of competitive existing offers due to their simplicity and affordability. In addition, Telkom customers continue to enjoy Free WhatsApp and 4G for free and free 50MB every day from 6:00 am and 8:00 am courtesy of the Amkia bundle.

The DStv Na Net offer will allow subscribers to view the best family entertainment on DStv Compact including Premier League on SuperSport 11 and LaLiga on SuperSport 7, exciting kids channels including Disney Cbeebies, Cartoon Network and Jim Jam, soapies for romance lovers with channels like Telemundo and Eva+, fashion and entertainment news on E! Entertainment, Spice TV and Fashion One, and local shows and movies on, Maisha Magic East and Maisha Magic Bongo.

The first satellite is SES 5 positioned at 5 degrees east. The second satellite is Eutelsat 7A positioned at 7 degrees east. These two satellites have very strong beams and also very close together that they can be received using only one satellite dish and one LNB. Here are the channels available on these two satellites:-

Notice how these channels are arranged in alphabetical order from backwards. Anyway moving on the next satellite is NSS12 positioned at 57 degrees east. This was the satellite that Zuku migrated from to what they are now currently using SES 5. There is only one channel on this satellite and that is:-
K24 – Our very local station from mediamax. This is the only easily receivable Kenyan channel on free to air satellite on Ku Band. Accompanied by K24 is a Kenyan Radio channel Mux. There are some channels you can receive on this position but you require a 90cm dish. The said channels like Sports Hub, ES TV among others are on another satellite, Yamal and are currently on tests. I will update you once they are fully operational.
The next satellite is Intelsat 20 positioned at 68.5 degrees east. This is primarily a Christianity dominated satellite. Here are the channels available on this satellite:-

LNB and F connectors
In lay mans words, the LNB is known as “Jicho”. It’s the thing placed in front of the dish where the cable comes from. You can read tips to buying a Good LNB here. F connectors are used to connect the coaxial cable to the decoder on one end and the LNB on the other rend. So you need two of them. F connectors usually cost Ksh5 but if you buy the complete kit, the vendor is supposed to offer them free of charge.

Coaxial Cable
A good length coaxial cable is also required. It is safer to buy a longer than required cable than a short one because joints in these cables usually cause signal quality problems. Buy a black cable that will withstand all the weather elements without deteriorating. Ask for the Astel or Jacobs brand of Coaxial cable commonly sold at Ksh20 per metre.
