Golf Parkโ€™s Josphat Rono on Sunday emerged as the champion of this yearโ€™s Trans Nzoia Championship held at Kitale Club.

This marks Ronoโ€™s second Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) victory in five months, following his win at the third edition of the 2024 NCBA Golf Park Open last November.

At Kitale, Rono displayed impressive form, carding rounds of 75, 69, and 76 for a total of 220 (+1) to secure a comfortable win, finishing two shots ahead of Kenya Railway Golf Clubโ€™s Isaac Makokha.

Opening his campaign with a steady 75 on Friday, Rono set the stage for a strong weekend. He was clinical on Saturday, firing an impressive 69 โ€“ the lowest round of the tournament โ€“ with a brilliant back nine that featured crucial birdies at the 11th, 14th, 15th, and 17th holes.

Despite a challenging final round 76 on Sunday, his early work gave him enough cushion to close out the championship.

โ€œKitale is a good golf course, I really enjoyed it. I played well on Friday, finishing with a +2, and on Saturday, I played even better, finishing -4, before Sundayโ€™s +3, for an overall +1 score,โ€ said Rono.

Speaking to Golf Score Kenya after his victory, Rono added: โ€œThis is my second win, and it means a lot to me. I have been practicing very well, and I knew this day would come. It feels great to win again and keep the momentum going.โ€

It was a weekend to remember for Britney Nyanchera, who celebrated her birthday in the most memorable way โ€” by winning the Girlsโ€™ Overall title at the 3rd NCBA Coast Junior Open 2025, held from April 25 to 27 at the historic Mombasa Golf Club.

The Windsor Golf and Hotel Club junior defied strong coastal breeze, Sundayโ€™s rain and stiff competition to clinch the title, posting scores of 91, 88, and 89 for a gross total of 268.

Despite the challenging course conditions, Britney held her nerve to finish with a commanding +55 over par and secure top honors among the girls.

"The experience was good; the competition was somehow tough because of the weather. However, I feel really good to have won. Iโ€™m grateful for the support from my mom and coach for believing in me," said an elated Britney after her victory.

Her mother, Maggie Nyabate, expressed her pride at seeing her daughterโ€™s progress.

"I have been walking with her through this journey, and it feels great to see her winning in competition. She started playing when she was eight years old, and Iโ€™m proud to see the growth,โ€ she said.

A seven-member Kenya Junior Golf Team has departed for Tunisia to compete in the 2025 All Africa Junior Team Championship (AAJTC), set for April 22โ€“27 at the Residence Golf Course.

The AAJTC is Africaโ€™s premier junior golf tournament, attracting elite teams from across the continent.

The event features 54 holes of team competition among approximately 20 countries.

The Kenyan contingentโ€”comprising four boys and three girlsโ€”was flagged off on Sunday by Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club.

The boysโ€™ team includes 17-year-old Junaid Manji (Sigona Golf Club), 16-year-old Nathan Mwangi (Karen Country Club), 15-year-old Tsevi Soni (Sigona Golf Club), and 14-year-old Justin Ngeera (Vet Lab Sports Club).

Representing the girls are 15-year-old Belinda Wanjiru (Vet Lab Sports Club), and 17-year-old Hazel Kuria and 15-year-old Audrey Gachora, both from Muthaiga Golf Club.

The team is under the guidance of coaches John Van Liefland and C.J. Wangai.

They departed for Tunisia on Monday, April 21, and are expected back on April 28.

Mombasa Golf Club etched their name in history books by emerging champions of the 2025 Tannahill Shield Centenary Tournament, held over three action-packed days โ€” April 18th to 20th โ€” at the prestigious Royal Nairobi Golf Club.

Marking the 100th edition of Kenyaโ€™s most prestigious inter-club invitational golf event, the tournament brought together elite golfing teams from across the country.

Mombasa Golf Club, which was sponsored by NCBA Bank, stood tall producing a consistent and spirited performance across all four rounds to finish with a remarkable gross total of 48 points.

Team Mombasa kicked off their campaign with a strong 12-point performance in Round 1, setting an early tone for what would become a dominant display.

They followed it up with an even more impressive 15 points in Round 2 โ€” the highest score of the round โ€” before maintaining steady form with 10 and 11 points in Rounds 3 and 4 respectively.

Their total of 48 points put them nine strokes clear of their closest challengers, Muthaiga Golf Club, who mounted a spirited charge but ultimately settled for second place with 39 points.

Mombasa Golf Clubโ€™s Senior Team has clinched victory at the 100th edition of prestigious Tannahill Shield Easter Golf Tournament at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club.

The teamโ€”comprising Simon Maina, Gurbux Singh, James Mureu, Martin Ombura, Peter Kimanga, Mburu Kariuki, Simon Karemu, and John Orioroโ€”posted an impressive performance.

They carded 239 gross in the first round and followed it up with a solid 238 in the second, finishing with a combined score of 477 gross to take the top spot.

Western Kenya settled for second place with 480 gross, while Royal Nairobi Golf Club finished third with 481โ€”just one stroke behind.

A total of nine elite teams are battling it out in this yearโ€™s centenary edition, including Royal Nairobi, Mombasa, Muthaiga, Western Kenya, Limuru, Vet Lab, Kenya Railways, Sigona, and Windsor Golf Clubs.

Kenyaโ€™s professional golfer Njoroge Kibugu has made the cut to play in the final round of the Sunshine Tour Qualifying School Final Stage at the par-71 Heron Banks Golf and River Resort in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Representing Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club, Njoroge carded rounds of 3-under-par 68, 2-over-par 73, and 1-over-par 72.

His 54-hole total of even-par 213 placed him tied for 40thโ€”safely within the cut line, which was set at 1-over-par.

He now joins the top 50 players who will contest the final round, vying for a share of the R100,000 prize fund and a coveted Sunshine Tour card for the 2025/26 season, awarded to the top 20 finishers.
