WAJIR COUNTY
BUDGET IMPLEMENTATION REPORT – 30 JUNE 2023
1. The total amount of cash received by the County between September 2022 to 30 June 2023 was sh 11.06 billion
2. Sh 2.38 billion was spent on development projects. Out of this amount, sh 117.34 million was used to pay pending bills relating to ongoing development projects.
3. Sh 7.85 billion was spent on recurrent expenditure, out of which sh 3.96 billion was paid as salaries & emoluments for employees. 39% (sh 1.75 billion) of these was for the health sector. The balance of the recurrent expenditure of sh 3.04 billion was spent on operations and maintenance, the highest items being relief food of sh 827 million, emergency funds sh sh 150 million and bursary fund sh 150 million.
4. According to the county government, pending bills it inherited from the previous administration was sh 5.5 billion. As at 30 June 2023, the pending bills carried forward increased to sh 5.51 billion.
5. County officials, including the Assembly, spent sh 339 million on domestic and foreign travel during the year. Foreign travel was only by the MCAs, totalling sh 1.61 million.
6. The major expenditures on development were supply of submersible water tanks at sh 51.5 million; 65,000 Cu M water dam at Kandaki at sh 50 million; 50,000Cu M water dam at Abaq Deere at sh 35 million; 42,000 Cu M water dam at Mado at sh 29.6 million; gravelling of Baladwein – Orote road at sh 26 million, and an oxygen plant at Wajir Referral Hospital, at sh 20.6 million.
