Menya Arap Kisiara

Menya is narrated among the Kipsigis as an excellent diplomat and war hero. He is credited for defeating the Maasai who used to inhabit larger portions of Kericho county. Significant battles are recalled having been fought in Iltianit(Londiani), fought in Kericho, Chemoiben, and then Siriat in Sotik. Initially an outcast and an outlier, Menyua Arap Kisiara was banished off the tribal land for marrying a Kapkerichek clanswoman which at the time, was also his own clan. He defected with his company of warriors, - Tapkile and Kipketes/Kipkeles into Maasai community.

He then started his own clan of Kapkaon. Returning later on as formidable warrior and establishing his army, he challenged the Maasai into a duel estimated from oral traditions to have taken place in the 1770s to where Kaplong town in Sotik is situated today, Menya led an army to war against the Maasai in order to resolve land disputes and territorial privileges. The war ensued for a number of weeks to a couple of months and for the most part, both sides lost many warriors, and many were injured.

Towards the end, Menya called in a truce and overnight, amassed aid and reinforcements from Kipsigis warriors across the whole of Kipsigis. On returning to the ultimate and decisive battle, he easily outwitted the Maasai with an army of an estimated 3000 warriors or more. Maasai conceded defeat and resolved to vacate what constitutes today most if not all of Bomet County and Narok West Constituency.

Origin of the word “Kiptindinyo.”

Kiptindinyo is a common name among the people of South Rift. Kiptindinyo and Kiptuima were “salaniek” terms. They were used to to describe men who belonged to the age set Chumo.Kiptindinyo is derived from the word “Tindinyek” which means consolidated soil.

Men of the age set that preceded chumo, Maina, were killed in battle. So there were no men left behind to impregnate women who were left behind by their husbands.

The women came together and devised a way of having the uncircumcised boys impregnate them. Alcohol was the arsenal to accomplish this strategy.

During the night, boys were given drinks in the company of the widows whose husbands were slain in battle. When all of them were drunk, women used “tindinyek” to put off fire so that they can sleep with the boys without shame.

This is the statue of Sütçü İmam in Turkey, the man who shot dead the first French soldier who tried to remove the veil of a Muslim woman.

Many historians state that this event led to the Battle of Marash between the Ottoman Army and French occupying forces.

Who has solved y + 2 = y?

Solving an equation means finding an assignment for its variable(s) that make the equation true.

By default the use of the variable y indicates the domain of Real numbers, where there is no such assignment.

In other domains, including modular arithmetic, Cardinal numbers, and extended Real numbers, there are many solutions. For example κ+2=κ for any transfinite Cardinal number κ .

Why is 144 a special number?
I have to disagree with most of the other answers: 144 is a great number, but not just because it’s twelve squared.

144 is a perfect square, sure, but the sum of its digits is also a perfect square (9), the product of its digits is also a perfect square (16), and its reverse is also a perfect square (441).

On the topic of its reverse, 144 is 122 , while 441 is 212 . In other words, the square root of 144’s reverse is the reverse of 144’s square root (if that makes any sense)!

In addition, it is a Fibbonacci number (the only Fibonacci number other than 1 and 8 to be a power of anything, in fact) and is the square of its Fibbonacci Index (meaning it’s the twelfth Fibbonacci number).

144 is the smallest number with exactly 15 divisors and would have been highly composite if it weren’t for stupid 120. The rest of these I found on Wikipedia, but are still interesting:

•144 is divisible by the number of natural numbers up to it that are prime relative to •144 (the value of its Euler’s totient function), namely 48
•144 disproved Euler’s sum of powers conjecture by being the smallest number whose fifth power can be written as a sum of four smaller fifth powers: 1445=275+845+1105+135 .
“•The maximum determinant in a 9 by 9 matrix of zeroes and ones is 144.”
°144 can be written as the sum of two twin primes, namely 71 and 73.
°Finally, it is a Harshad Number or a Niven Number in base 10, meaning it is divisible by the sum of its digits. (As a side note, it’s product of the sum and product of its digits.)

Chinese Debt Owed by African Countries

A recent study by a UK organisation called Debt Justice found that it's actually the West that debt trapped Africa and they are accusing China of what they have been doing for the past decades.

Here are some key findings from the study

African governments owe three times more debt to Western banks, asset managers and oil traders than they do to China.

Only 12% of African governments’ external debt is owed to Chinese lenders compared with 35% owed to Western lenders.

The West charge African countries double the interest that China offers.

African countries with the highest public debt burdens, owe Western lenders.
