Can you believe that this gigantic mausoleum was discovered by chance in 1974 and only became a Site in 1987? This incredible place -- the Qinshihuang Mausoleum -- is the tomb of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, founder of the first unified empire in Chinese history. The local farmers who came across pieces of a clay figure, ended up leading the discovery of the ancient tomb, vast both in its size and number of artefacts. The cultural relics discovered reflect the highest level of pottery technicality, chariot assembly, metallurgy and metal processing in the Qin Dynasty. Namely, the horse sculptures and warriors in full armour standing in battle formation, are a great example of the outstanding cultural achievements of that period. The figures are all different with their horses, chariots and weapons, making them not only masterpieces of realism, but also pieces of great historical interest. The Terracotta soldiers are life-sized, measuring about two-metres (six-feet), so if you aren't too close they look like humans! However, they are definitely heavier than humans, as they weigh up to 272 kilograms (600 pounds) each! Want to keep on exploring on this ?
