94 YEAR OLD GOSPEL PIONEER LAUNCHES MEMOIR TO INSPIRE FUTURE GENERATIONS IN BARINGO NORTH
At 94, Johana Mining’wo, popularly known as Okello, has fulfilled a lifelong dream of documenting his remarkable journey of faith, service, and wisdom for generations to come.
His book, In the Mirror of Time: Reflections of a Life Lived, was officially launched today at Africa Inland Church (AIC), Keturwo, in Baringo North, in a colorful ceremony attended by local residents, church members, and leaders from across the region.
Mining’wo, one of the earliest people from the Kerio Valley to receive and spread the Christian faith, played a pivotal role in evangelizing the local community.
Through his teachings, the region gradually moved away from retrogressive cultural practices and embraced education, faith, and modernization.
Motivated by a desire to preserve this history, he vowed years ago to write a book that would pass on knowledge, values, and life lessons to his grandchildren and the wider community.
The launch event was marked by pomp and color, drawing hundreds who gathered to celebrate the realization of Mzee Mining’wo’s vision.
Flanked by his children and grandchildren, the elderly author received warm applause as he unveiled the book, a testament to resilience, faith, and lifelong dedication to community transformation.
Area leaders, led by Baringo County Assembly Speaker Vincent Kemboi, lauded Mining’wo’s achievement, describing the book as a rich source of wisdom and historical insight.
They urged locals, especially the younger generation, to read the memoir and tap into the wealth of knowledge it offers, noting that preserving such personal histories is key to safeguarding the community’s heritage and guiding its future.
