Youth, Innovation and Enterprise Shine at Machakos Vuka Festival
Machakos People’s Park was transformed into a lively hub of music, colour and enterprise as residents gathered to welcome the New Year 2026 during the annual Vuka Festival, a flagship initiative under Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s youth empowerment programme.
The 2026 edition recorded notable growth, with a significant increase in the number of local vendors participating in the event. Traders from across the county were given an opportunity to display and sell their products, highlighting the county government’s efforts to promote entrepreneurship, support small-scale businesses, and enhance economic opportunities for local households.
Youth participation took centre stage, as young creatives showcased their talents through electrifying music performances, energetic dance routines, visual art exhibitions and diverse cultural displays. The expanded performance spaces allowed local artists to reach wider audiences, reinforcing Machakos County’s commitment to nurturing and promoting homegrown talent.
Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi, who attended the festival on behalf of Governor Wavinya Ndeti, reiterated the administration’s dedication to empowering young people and fostering inclusive economic growth. He noted that the steady expansion of the Vuka Festival is a testament to the county’s sustained investment in youth-driven initiatives and the creation of safe, vibrant public spaces that encourage social interaction and economic activity.
