There are concerns that an unknown number of individuals have died and many others have been injured after a gas explosion occurred in the Mradi area of Embakasi, Nairobi County. The explosion happened around 11.45pm on Thursday. According to residents and witnesses, they experienced shaking similar to an earthquake immediately after the explosion. The fire has reportedly spread to some houses in the neighborhood, causing people to flee for safety and attempt to save their belongings. One eyewitness recounted that they witnessed a massive blast just minutes before midnight and sustained injuries while trying to rescue children. Firefighters are currently present at the scene, working to control the fire, while rescue operations are underway.

An unknown number of people are feared dead and scores injured following a gas explosion at Mradi area of Embakasi, Nairobi County.
The fire broke out at around 11.45pm on Thursday. Some residents and eyewitnesses revealed experienced "tremor-like reactions" immediately after the explosion.
The fire is reported to have spread to some houses within the estate, as people scampered to safety and tried to salvage their belonging.
“We witnessed the biggest blast just minutes to midnight. I got injured on the arms and head trying to save some kids,” an eyewitness revealed.
Authorities say firefighters are at the scene, trying to contain the fire.
Rescue operations are underway.

Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor left in utter shock over circumstances surrounding the death of 20-year-old JKUAT student Rita Waeni after conducting a postmortem on the body, saying this is the first time he has ever come across such an incident in his forensic career.

“The killer looked like he knew what he was doing because when you look at the skin it looks like it was cut by a sharp object but when you look at the bone it was sawed off with what looked like a hacksaw.”

“Another thing that we noticed is that the killer tried to clip off her fingernails for reasons which I may not be able to know and as a scientist when we see this we think that the person was trying to hide evidence so that we are unable to get his DNA from his victim.”

GOVERNOR WAVINYA NDETI SET TO LAUNCH MAZIWA YA MAMA PROGRAM TODAY AT KYEMUTHEKE.

Today, Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti will launch the Maziwa ya Mama program, a free milk distribution exercise targeting all public ECDEs across Machakos County.

The program, the first of its kind in the history of devolution in Kenya, will take place at Kyemutheke Primary School in Mavoko Sub-County

The "Maziwa ya Mama" program will enhance children's nutrition in basic education for better learning experience.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba claims that the Taifa Stars of Tanzania can win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, currently underway in Ivory Coast.

During his analysis on Kenya’s national broadcaster on Wednesday, January 17, Namwamba asserted that Taifa Stars initially considered one of the weakest teams in the tournament, could cause an upset and clinch the championship.

Namwamba stated, “Anything is possible in football. If recent history has taught us anything, it is that there are no more underdogs in football. I am East African. The East African in me is urging Tanzania, telling them, I believe you can put up a good fight.”

Before Thursday’s 3-0 loss to Morocco, Tanzania had played six matches at the continental showpiece. Of these six, they managed only a draw (in 1980) and suffered five losses. A win still remains elusive.

In both the 1980 and 2019 editions, the East African nation finished at the bottom of the group. However, Namwamba is not allowing himself to be carried away by history, as he throws his support behind the neighbors.

“Everybody can pretty much beat everybody. No one gave Morocco a chance during the World Cup in Qatar, but they went all the way to the semi-finals. Nothing stops Tanzania from doing well,” remarked the Sports CS.
