Just wanted to give you all an update on the potential storm for Thursday evening and the risk of snow!

So the models have continued to show a low pressure system moving towards Ireland and the UK but for snow lovers like myself it appears as though it will move ever so slightly too south of Ireland towards the UK keeping the precipitation away from Ireland.

Unless there is a big change in the models we will not see some potential snow accumulations this time!

I will keep you up to date on this over the coming days and especially if there is a change!

A very cold start to the night ahead and temperatures are expected to drop as low as -5°C.

As we move towards dawn cloud will build in the west and will bring rain throughout the morning and temperatures rise!

Temperatures still around freezing in the east by morning but warming as that band of rain crosses the country.

Still a risk of ice for the morning commute around the country so please take care!

Early tonight freezing conditions are forecast.

Cloud is forecast to build in the west throughout the night making temperatures rise in the west, by dawn rain will push in to the west.

Totals of 10-15mm is possible in 24 hours in the west of the country.

In the east a frosty and icy morning expected!

Quick update on the possible storm for Thursday which COULD bring a lot of snow!

A low pressure system is expected to move close to Ireland on Thursday, this system is expected to track close to the south coast. There is the potential for some decent snow accumulations overnight Thursday into Friday.

So this early evenings models were mainly showing the storm a little further south (first 2 pics)

The later 18z models which include the GFS and ICON are forecasting the storm further north and closer to Ireland which could well bring lots of snow as it mixes with the cold air over Ireland. Pics 3&4

❌ Dangerous Road Conditions ❌

With the rain and snow etc today in the south west of the country in particular there is a serious risk of ice overnight. Also from the snow showers in Ulster.

Temperatures overnight expected to drop down as low as -6 or even -7°C in places which will make the roads very dangerous!

For people out and about, school buses, parents, workers etc away from the treated main roads it will be dangerous in the morning!

Even gritted main roads could well be dangerous also in the morning!

Please allow extra time and drive slow!
