INSECURITY in KISUMU MILIMANI

In the past 2-3 weeks, there is a gang of boys terrorizing people in Milimani around Parkview Safari Hotel , Impala Sanctuary area along the hotel lane & Wildlife Clubs of Kenya, Kisumu .

It is alleged that they even have a gun that they wave around,whether fake or real no one has gotten close enough to verify.

These boys rob people in broad daylight 0730- 1100hrs. Mostly targeting workers and guests around that general area. A young lady was yesterday accosted by these boys on boda boda commonly found at the corner opposite Parkview Hotel Gate. She was severely beaten & robbed off a phone & bag.

Milimani is generally a favourite spot for many local & international guests. Insecurity around this particular area has been an off and on thing.

Can we get this addressed before we loose life?

The Council of Governors (CoG) consultation meeting with the managers caucus focused it's objectives on the Kenya Urban Support Phase 2. (KUSP2), on building capacity of municipalities, towns and cities, improve the delivery and resilience of urban infrastructure and service, enhance the private sector engagement in urban planning.

KISUMU SHOWGROUND & OTHERS TO BE RELOCATED TO KIBOS AREA
Kisumu City Manager Abala Wanga has said that Kisumu, Showground will be relocated to Kibos near Chiga as well as Kondele Timber Yards, Lories and Pick-ups operators and Jua Kali artisans who operate from Kamas, Obote Road and Lower Railways.
The City Manager also added that Sand, stones, bricks and hardware dealers in Kondele are among other businesses set to be moved as well as Markets such as Ong'wano

The City of Kisumu implemented best practice designs that improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists in line with the Kisumu Sustainable Mobility Plan. Under the World Bank-financed Kenya Urban Support Program, the Kisumu Triangle, involving the reconstruction of 1.5 km of walkways along Oginga Odinga Street, Ang’awa Avenue, and Jomo Kenyatta Highway. The project included storm water drainage improvements, installation of utility ducts, installation of solar street lights, and construction of public toilets. Tabletop pedestrian crossings were constructed to provide safe, universally accessible crossing points for pedestrians. Construction of the 8 km, the second phase of the project is currently underway along Nyerere Road, Ondiek Highway, Gumbi Road, Mosque Road, Achieng’ Oneko Rd, Awuor Otieno Road, Omolo Ogar Road, Ang’awa Avenue, and the Oginga Odinga Street.

This afternoon the Kisumu City Manager Abala Wanga together and his assistant Mr Charles Omollo met the Garissa business community leadership in his office to further their engagement on moving all their business members to the Uhuru Business Park modern market and exit the Garissa streets to pave way for drainage and sewerline management across the CBD.

Kisumu literally means a place of barter trade “sumo” in the Luo language, and is locally called ‘Kisumo’. It was the major port of Lake Victoria during the commonwealth of East Africa, then known as Port Florence. The town was founded in the early 19th Century mainly as the main inland terminal of the Asian built Uganda railway. Asians once formed a quarter of the population of the town, with cultural and infrastructural evidence of this visible to date.

Today, Kisumu City Manager, Abala M. Wanga met the organizing team of the Kisumu City Run to receive an update on the event's planning progress. The event, slated for September 24, 2023, in the picturesque lakeside city, is designed to advance the Kisumu Greening Initiative through sports. Over 5,000 runners from across the country are expected to participate, with the primary goals being community development, the promotion of healthy lifestyles, and the cultivation of social responsibility.

Preceding the City Run, on September 23, 2023, Mr. Wanga extends an invitation to Kisumu residents to join in large numbers for the "Citywide Cleanup and Tree Planting Day," an initiative purposefully designed to help address and mitigate the adverse effects of climate change. These activities are integral parts of Kisumu Tourism Week, scheduled to unfold from September 23 to 27, 2023.
