Together with , we returned to Naserian Primary School today to distributed 152 more pairs of "The Shoe That Grows" to every child, an amazing increase from the 105 provided last time!

In Magadi Ward, where the sun is scorching hot and barriers to education are significant due to environmental challenges and socio-economic factors, this initiative plays a crucial role in breaking the cycle of poverty.

These shoes not only protect children from injuries and diseases but also empower them to focus on their education and future aspirations. One step at a time, we’re creating change! 👣

✨ Today, we celebrate the 2024 International Day of the Girl, joining the world under the theme “Girls’ Vision for the Future.” In Kajiado, we focused on “Girls’ Vision for the Future Free from FGM.”

The event took place in Elangata Wuas, Kajiado West Sub County, in partnership with the Anti-FGM Board and other groups in Kajiado.

In Kajiado County, about 1 in 5 girls aged 15-19 have faced teenage pregnancy, which often interrupts their education. Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) is still common here, even though it has been illegal in Kenya since 2011. Shockingly, no FGM cases have been reported, despite the high prevalence.

Sadly, many girls and young women still fight for their basic rights and for equality. They are hit hardest by global issues like climate change, conflict, and inequality. Discrimination and negative stereotypes hold them back, making them twice as likely as boys to miss out on education. Being a girl should never stop them from achieving their dreams.

To break the cycle of poverty and empower girls, we must focus on their education and well-being. When girls are strong, our community becomes stronger too. By supporting their futures, we are not just changing lives; we are building a better community. Let’s lift up their voices and help them realize their dreams.

Together, we can create a brighter future for all.

In a heartwarming spirit of community and humanity, we collaborated with Because International today to distribute 100 pairs of The Shoe That Grows at Naserian Primary School, Magadi Ward. This effort, inspired by their inspiring story of “The Shoe That Grows”, aims to overcome significant barriers to education and well-being in this challenging environment.

The story began in 2007 when Kenton Lee, a recent college graduate, traveled to Nairobi, Kenya. Volunteering at a small orphanage, he saw a young girl wearing shoes so small she had to cut them open for her growing feet. This touching moment prompted Kenton to envision a shoe that could grow with the child. That vision materialized over six years with the help of Kenton’s friends in Idaho. They developed a durable, adjustable shoe that can expand five sizes and last for years. These shoes now provide long-lasting footwear to needy children, promoting health and enhancing access to education.

Around 1.5 billion people globally suffer from soil-transmitted diseases, with children being the most vulnerable. In regions like Magadi Ward, inadequate footwear exposes children to diseases, and injuries resulting in missed school days and limited future opportunities. This perpetuates the cycle of poverty in already struggling areas.

Magadi Ward faces harsh environmental conditions, water scarcity, and high school dropout rates. Girls are vulnerable to early pregnancies and forced marriages, and boys may be drawn into moranism or child labor. Cultural practices and economic hardships often force families to rely on donor food distribution for survival and cannot afford basic needs.

By supplying durable, adjustable shoes, we aim to remove one of the barriers to children’s education and well-being. These shoes will protect them from health risks, allowing them to attend school comfortably and confidently.

This partnership with Because International, is more than distributing shoes it’s about instilling hope, dignity, and a brighter future for Magadi Ward’s school-going children. We strive to make a tangible difference in their lives, support their education, and contribute to positive changes in the community.

International Literacy Day holds profound significance globally, recognizing strides in literacy achievements. In Kajiado County, this day serves as a crucial reminder of ongoing efforts to combat literacy challenges, with a particular focus this year on promoting multilingual education for mutual understanding and peace.

Acknowledging the barriers faced by the Maa community, Kajiado County is actively promoting adult and continuing education programs to bridge the literacy gap effectively. On September 6th, 2024, Enkirrgirri Primary School in Isinya hosted International Literacy Day celebrations, where 50 adults received certificates for completing adult education programs, marking a pivotal moment in enhancing literacy levels within the community.

Mercy Njiriri, the Kajiado County Director for Adult Education, highlighted the transformative power of education, especially for Indigenous women, urging men to support and encourage women's involvement in adult education initiatives to combat illiteracy effectively.

Kajiado County's unwavering dedication to addressing literacy challenges, particularly among marginalized communities, underscores its commitment to creating equitable opportunities for all. By championing multilingual education and literacy for mutual understanding, the county exemplifies how education acts as a catalyst for societal advancement and unity.

Our involvement in International Literacy Day serves as a platform to promote our organization's mission and demonstrate our dedication to empowering women through technology and literacy. By actively participating in events like International Literacy Day, Dada Digital Initiative aims to raise awareness and gather support for our visionary adult digital literacy program for women at the grassroots. This involvement allows us to showcase our commitment to addressing literacy challenges by bridging the digital divide and empowering women.

Additionally, our engagement provides an opportunity to network with other stakeholders, receive recognition for our initiatives, and potentially attract funding and partnerships to further our cause.
