MOSES, BEARER OF THE LAW

NOTE: Moses's Life was divided into three parts: (1) -In the court of Egypt; (2) -In the desert as
a tender of Jethro‗s flocks :(3) -In the wilderness with Israel. Each of these three periodswas forty years. The first eighty years of his life were in preparation for 40 years of service.

circumstances, which brought Israel into Egypt and placed them in bo***ge. Genesis 41:54, 57; 42:5, 6; 45: 16-18; Exodus 1:7-14.

ISAIAH, THE GOSPEL PROPHET

Note. Isaiah prophesied in the days of Uzziah, Jotham,Ahaz and Hezekiah, around about 758 to
698 B.C. His prophecies of Christ are most amazing. Given seven centuries before Christ, their accuracy of fulfillment is an outstanding testimony to the divine inspiration of the Bible.Scripture reading: Isaiah 55.

Memory verse: Isa 66:20.

1. In Isaiah chapter 1-8, the prophet relates a wonderful experience. Do you see anything in it that could be an example to us in this age?

2. Did Isaiah foretell the birth of Christ? Isa 9:6, 7; 11:1-5.

3. Why didn‘t the people recognize Jesus as the Christ through a knowledge of these prophecies and others? Isa. 6:9-12

4. Is Isaiah 53:1-3 in any way connected with this thought?

Note. Isaiah 53 is the outstanding prophecy of Christ. It briefly but beautifully sums up
His mission as our Saviour, foretelling His rejection of men and His suffering in bearing our sins. A study of this one chapter should convince the most doubtful agnostic.

That the House -
(1) notes the latest developments in the Israel-Palestine conflict;
(2) further notes the continuing building of settler houses in the land of Palestinian people and further land encroachment that is against numerous United Nations resolutions;
(3) realises that the Apartheid-Israel government is in a perpetual breach of international law against annexation and, as a result, the Israeli government aggression gives rise to violent resistance;
(4) understands that the expansionist policy and further construction of settler houses in the Palestinian land is an impediment to the peaceful resolution of the century old Israel and Palestine conflict;
(5) further understands that the annexation of Palestinian land and killing of Palestinian children is a violent act which itself promotes a violent reaction, and that land dispossession is a violent exercise that undermines the very humanity of the Palestinian people;
(6) recognises that peace in the Middle East will never prevail for as long as the land of the Palestinians is occupied, and more of the little remaining land is annexed;
(7) condemns the killing of defenceless children and women in Gaza, including the bombing of hospitals;
(calls on all freedom loving people of the world to support the Palestinian campaign to take back their land in all of its manifestations;
(9) calls upon the government to close the Israel Embassy in South Africa and suspend all diplomatic relations with Israel until a ceasefire is agreed to by Israel and Israel commits to binding United Nations facilitated negotiations whose outcome must be a just, sustainable and lasting peace; and
(10) calls upon the government to make representations to the International Criminal Court to investigate the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and key decision makers in his cabinet for violations of international criminal law and crimes against humanity.

Before the First World War, the wristwatch was considered exclusively for women. And first and foremost, it was a piece of jewelry. Putting a watch on a man's hand was scarier than wearing a skirt. Men wore watches in their vest pockets. The war changed everything. Officers, cavalrymen and aviators started wearing watches (and compasses) on their arm. It was extremely difficult for a pilot to take them out of his vest pocket. The watch on the arm became a symbol of courage.

The men returning home from the front were in no hurry to part with their wristwatches and continued to wear them on their wrists out of the army habit. It had no utilitarian function any more. It was a kind of analogue of post-war bragging. A guarantee of the bravery of the wearer. And the ex-military changed the fashion - by 1930, sales of wristwatches exceeded sales of pocket watches for the first time.

Lesson for November 18, 2023

DAVID ANOINTED KING

Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 16.

Memory Verse: 1 Samuel 16:13.

1. What question did the Master ask, when Samuel mourned for Saul? 1Samuel 16:1.

Note: Every true servant in all ages has compassion. It is a wicked heart that rejoices over the one who falls away. Paul says: Those who are spiritual should restore the fallen. Galatians 6:1. Samuel would have done this, but God had already rejected Saul. Saul‘s disobedience was Willful.

2. How did Samuel feel about anointing another? How was he advised to disarm Saul‘s suspicion? Verses 2, 3.

3. On coming to Bethlehem, how was he regarded? What was his mission? Verses 4, 5.

4. What was the prophet Samuel‘s first impression of Eliab? Verses 6, 7.

Note: Man-made plans and guess work are sapping the vitality of the church today.
The Almighty has an overall plan for man. He wants us to fit into His plan, not try to fit Him into ours.
