• EULOGY
EARLY LIFE
Kimoi Rong'uno (Kokop Zakayo) was born in 1920 at Kimalel Village, Marigat sub County, Baringo County. She was daughter to Chebon Kiborus (Kibugat) and Late Targok Chebon and step. daughter to Late Kabon Chebon. She was sister to Late Kimoi Komen (Tenges), Late Kimoi Kiplenge (Tumbolywo), Late Kimai Ngorombori (Kabasis), Late Bundotich Chebon (Kimalel) She was Aunt to Rotich Kipchumba, Late Everlyn, Late Jenniffer, Late Grace, Late Margaret, Solomon Bundotich and Musa Bundotich.
In her early years, she herded her father's goats in addition to looking after her younger siblings and the normal household chores for girls at that time. She also took up the role of guiding and assisting her step mother who was blind.
MARRIAGE AND FAMILY
Kimoi Ronguno was wife to the late Ronguno Kandie, loving mother to Charles & Martha Chelagat, Late David & Eunice Kiprono, Peter and Grace Kiplima, Margaret & Late Sammy Chelugo, Symon & Magdalene Kibet, Juma & Dr. Karen Kandie and Mary & Reuben Amdany. She is blessed with 45 Grandchildren, 114 great children, and 21 Great Great grandchildren.
COMMUNITY.
Kogop Zakayo was hardworking and instilled the values of hard work and honesty to her children. During the 1965 drought, she used to travel to Chepkorio in Elgeyo Marakwet County to work and be paid with food stuff such as maize & Beans,
which she carried all the way to Kasore to feed her children.
She was member of the community and mentored many during her younger years. She also participated in the community work, kibangenge" with many of her peers. Although she did not attend school, she highly valued education and sent her children to school in the 1950s when few people valued school.
LAST DAYS OF HER LIFE
Kogop Zakaye enjoyed good and vibrant health most of her life and even in old age, her health was relatively good. On 21st June 2024, she occidentally fell and broke her hip bone. She was rushed to Kabarnet and later to Eldoret for specialized treatment at St Luke's Hospital. She was successfully operated on Sunday 23rd June and she made very good progress and even addressed her grand and great grandchildren via video on Monday 24th June 2024. She was subsequently discharged on Thursday 27th June and brought to Kabarnet where she stayed at her daughter's place that evening. (Kapchepkoro). She suddenly became unwell the following day and Dr. Koech (Kerio Valley Hospital) came to attend to her. Immediately the Doctor left, her condition deteriorated and an ambulance was called to take her to hospital and she slept while being attended.
