"We Don't Want Politics That Divide Kenyans Based on Community or Region, We Want Politics That Unite All Kenyans" – Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan.

Isiolo Governor, Abdi Ibrahim Hassan, has emphasized that the people of Isiolo do not want politics that divide Kenyans based on community or region, but rather, they seek politics that focus on uniting the nation through unity and solidarity.

Speaking at a fundraiser for 65 women’s groups from Uasin Gishu County, Governor Abdi stated that the 2027 elections will be highly competitive, and it is crucial for Kenyans to choose a path that fosters unity rather than deepening divisions.

"As the people of Isiolo, we do not want politics that divide Kenyans based on community or region. We want politics that unite all Kenyans, where we will work together to build our nation," said Governor Abdi.

He also added that the people of Isiolo are committed to supporting President William Ruto with 99% of their votes in the upcoming election, citing the ongoing development projects in their region, such as the Isiolo-Madogashe road project.

Governor Abdi criticized those who undermine the efforts of President Ruto’s government, stating that many development projects are being implemented successfully and are improving the lives of Kenyans.

He emphasized that the 2027 election presents an opportunity for Kenyans to come together and elect leaders who will promote unity, rather than perpetuate tribal and regional divisions.

Governor Abdi’s statement underscores a call for positive change in Kenya’s political landscape, with a focus on leaders who will prioritize national unity and development for all citizens.

Speaking at a fundraising event for 65 women’s groups in Uasin Gishu County, Governor Abdi emphasized the importance of choosing political leaders who will prioritize national unity and social cohesion.

"As a community, we do not support politics that divide Kenyans along ethnic or regional lines. We advocate for a political approach that unites all Kenyans, where we work together to build a stronger nation," Governor Abdi stated.

Hon. Mumina Bonaya’s Plea to President Ruto Bears Fruit as Livestock Restocking Kicks Off in Isiolo.

A heartfelt appeal made by Isiolo County Women Representative, Hon. Mumina Bonaya-Tah Abo Gollo to President William Samoei Ruto during his visit to Garbatulla town on 7th February has now been fulfilled, marking a major milestone for drought-hit communities in the region.

During the visit, Hon. Bonaya passionately urged the President to consider restocking livestock for families who had lost their livelihoods due to repeated droughts. Her plea was met with immediate commitment from the Head of State, who promised action.

Today, Hon. Bonaya has confirmed that the President has delivered on that promise. This week, the livestock restocking programme officially commenced in Garbatulla and Isiolo Central sub-counties.

“Isiolo County is the very first to benefit from this programme,” Hon. Bonaya stated. “Each vulnerable household identified by area chiefs received five shoats – four female goats and one male.”

So far, 630 goats have been distributed in the larger Garbatulla sub-county, with another 560 distributed in Isiolo Central. Distribution for Oldonyiro, Merti, and Cherab sub-counties is scheduled to begin tomorrow.

Hon. Bonaya expressed gratitude to the Kenya Kwanza Government for honoring its commitment. “Hongera to the Kenya Kwanza Government for keeping the promise on the bottom-up development model,” she added.

Residents of Shambani area in Burat Ward, Isiolo County, are expressing relief and optimism following the ongoing construction of a new bridge in the region — a development they say is long overdue and life-saving.

For years, the community relied on a makeshift bridge that often became impassable during the rainy season, resulting in multiple fatalities and frequent disruptions to daily life.

According to residents, every rainfall brought fear and uncertainty as the previous structure would flood easily, endangering lives and cutting off access to essential services.

“This bridge has caused us so much pain in the past. We've lost people, and we couldn't cross when it rained. We are grateful this is finally being addressed,” said one local.

As the construction nears completion, the community is urging the contractor to widen the bridge further to ensure it can withstand high water volumes during heavy rains, reducing the risk of future damage.

Residents believe that once completed, the new bridge will significantly boost local trade and improve the transportation of goods. “We’ll finally be able to move our products without fear. This will really open up business for us,” noted another resident.

Despite the progress, concerns remain over the poor condition of roads in the area. Gabriel Ekwam, a local resident, lamented the state of the roads, which he said are currently impassable due to ongoing rains.

Residents are now calling on local authorities to prioritize road improvements to complement the benefits of the new bridge and fully unlock the region’s economic potential.

He warned that without immediate intervention, the community could face increasingly severe consequences. Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Hon. Kiambi revealed that over 300 families have already been affected by flooding due to the poor drainage systems.

He urged the county leadership to prioritize long-term solutions to prevent further displacement and health hazards, stressing the importance of proactive planning in urban infrastructure development.

Major Boost for Rural Electrification in Isiolo as Dropped Projects Get Reinstated.

Isiolo County is set to witness a significant improvement in rural electrification following the reinstatement of key power projects that had earlier stalled or been dropped.

Hon. Mumina Bonaya, the Isiolo County Woman Representative, has announced that four installation sites—Kombolla, Rapsu, Malkagala, and Badana—previously excluded from World Bank funding have now been approved for inclusion under Government of Kenya (GoK) funding for the 2024/2025 financial year.

In a formal letter dated 23rd November 2023, addressed to Dr. Rose Mkalama, CEO of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC), Hon. Bonaya requested the return of the four sites which had initially been dropped from a group of nine mini-grid projects in Isiolo County.

She emphasized the importance of restoring these sites to ensure equitable development across the county.

The move follows a meeting held on 21st November 2023, where Hon. Bonaya, together with Isiolo Governor H.E. Hon. Guyo Abdi Ibrahim and Isiolo North MP Hon. Samal Lomwa, met with the Principal Secretary for Energy, Alex Wachira, to follow up on several long-standing energy-related concerns.

Among the issues discussed were the stalled power connection projects for Oldonyiro, the Mulandanur-Korbesa-Saleti line, the Kulamawe-Barambate line, and the Leparua-Kipsing line.

A special technical team was formed to assess the status of these projects and address the challenges that had delayed them for years. In addition, the leaders followed up on the progress of four World Bank-funded mini-grid projects currently underway in Bassa, Gafarsa, Malkadaka, and Iresaboru.

Hon. Bonaya expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the meeting, particularly the decision to consider the previously dropped sites under GoK funding. She confirmed that the construction of the Rapsu power line, worth KSh 27 million, is now complete and awaiting energization.

“As we look forward to seeing Rapsu come to life, I wish to thank Hon. Guyo Abdi Ibrahim and Hon. Samal Lomwa for the team spirit in lobbying to have our rural areas developed,” she stated.

Hon. Bonaya reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that more rural centers are connected to both electricity and mobile networks, underscoring the importance of infrastructure development in improving livelihoods and economic opportunities for the people of Isiolo.
